Beach bars back for Easter

In a decisive move to reinstate a vital service interrupted last year, Mayor of Orihuela Pepe Vegara has announced the publication of the tender for the contract of beach bars along the Orihuela Costa. Vegara underscored the urgency of this endeavour, emphasising the significant risk posed to the city’s

coveted Blue Flags due to the service interruption. He proudly declared, “In just five months of government, we have achieved what others were unable to accomplish in over a year.” The mayor expressed gratitude towards the Contracting and Coastal Departments, commending their relentless efforts that, according

to him, have paved the way for the reopening of beach bars by the upcoming Easter season. Vegara highlighted the crucial role of this service in maintaining the Blue Flags, a symbol of environmental quality and safety at the beaches. Councillor Manuel Mestre, responsible for the coast, joined Vegara in the announcement, shedding light on the persistent demands from residents and visitors for the return of beach bar services. Mestre acknowledged the Orihuela

City Council’s commitment to addressing these concerns, stating, “This is a responsibility we assumed when we entered government, and now we have complied because we know that this issue is very important for the coast.” Mestre revealed the details of the contract, which will span a total duration of four years, a significant step toward ensuring the longterm stability of the beach bars. In a groundbreaking move, the contract has been divided into five lots for the first time, a strategic decision based on the criteria of proximity and profitability of the beach bars. The comprehensive contract includes the management of beach bars, their terraces, sunbeds, umbrellas, and, in some instances, the installation of lockers. Each lot is

tailored to specific beach locations, ensuring a targeted and efficient approach to service provision. Lot breakdown and respective amounts are as follows: Lot 1 (€79,708): Playa de Punta Prima, Playa de Cala Mosca, and Playa Estaca. Lot 2 (€239,663): Playa Cala Cerrada, Playa Cala Bosque, and Playa Cala Capitán. Lot 3 (€105,324): Playa La Caleta and Playa Calas de Aguamarina. Lot 4 (€179,695): Playa La Glea, Playa Barranco Rubio, and Playa Mil Palmeras. Lot 5 (€37,466): Nautical facilities in Cala Bosque, La Caleta, La Glea, and Barranco Rubio. The minimum total fee for the contract amounts to €641,858 per year, with the contract covering the years 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027. The tender deadline is set at 30 calendar days, with companies allowed to submit bids for a maximum of two lots. Mestre emphasised another crucial aspect of the contract, noting, “It includes the provision of the service throughout the year on two beaches, La Caleta and Cala Bosque.” This provision ensures a continuous and year-round beach bar service, catering to both residents and tourists alike. The mayor and councillor expressed confidence that this tender would pave the way for the timely opening of beach bars, ready to welcome visitors during the next Easter tourist campaign on most Orihuela beaches.

Thieves return chapel haul In a surprising turn of events, the chapel of Quirón hospital in Torrevieja is once again adorned with its sacred artifacts after repentant robbers confessed to their crime, prompting the return of the stolen liturgical objects. The stolen items, including a chalice, tabernacle, and various sacred articles, have been reinstated, their journey back shrouded in the secrecy of confession, according to episcopal sources. The act of repentance by the criminals came to light through Bishop José Ignacio Munilla, who revealed that the two thieves discreetly entered the chapel, absconding from the hospital premises unnoticed. Among the stolen items were the tabernacle, the Eucharistic reserve, an altar cross, a chalice,

a chasuble, a corporal, and a holy book, as reported by the hospital chaplain, Javier Vicens. The desecration of the Holy Eucharist is deemed a “serious event” by the Church, prompting the suspension of chapel activities until the Bishop could perform a Eucharist of reparation. With the return of the stolen items, the Bishopric has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from parishioners, hospital management, and State security forces. The incident had triggered an investigation by the Civil Guard, but given the repentance of the thieves, it appears that further pursuit of the culprits is no longer necessary. The phrase “what is said in the confessional stays in the

confessional” aptly captures the secrecy surrounding the identity and information provided by the repentant robbers. This unexpected act of contrition has not only resulted in the reinstatement of the stolen items but has also brought closure to what the Church describes as an “attack against what is most sacred to the faith.” As the Torrevieja community reflects on this unusual episode, the emphasis on the sanctity of the confessional remains a central theme, leaving the faithful to contemplate the transformative power of repentance and the complexities of faith and forgiveness. The Guadia Civil has confirmed that it will no longer be carrying on with its investigation into the identity of the culprits.

Health to extend health centres in Orihuela Costa and Guardamar The manager of the Torrevieja Health Department, José Cano, has met with the mayors of the municipalities that make up this department to inform them about the situation in the hospital, the reinforcements and improvement actions that have been adopted, balance of management during the last year, main healthcare indicators, upcoming challenges and projects such as the expansion of the Orihuela Costa and Guardamar del Segura centres. José Cano recalled that the Department of Health “has planned a series of improvements in the department, both in infrastructure and equipment, which will allow it to offer higher quality care to users.” This meeting, which will be held regularly starting next year, made it possible to present the

latest indicators in the health area, the budgets of the Ministry of Health for 2024, the main indicators of healthcare activity, areas for improvement and the next investments in infrastructure and technology, both those that have been executed in 2023, and those that will take place in the coming years. At the healthcare level, the centre has multiplied by four the radiology tests requested in 2023 compared to the previous year. As of October 2023, the number of surgical interventions has also increased in relation to those carried out the previous year, going from 10,551 to 10,606, with rigorous control of surgical planning being carried out to improve these figures, with an index of operations without hospital admission of almost 80

percent. The average waiting time in the emergency room has been significantly reduced compared to 2022. The average waiting time is 85 minutes during the month of July compared to more than 200 minutes the previous year. Outpatient consultations have gone from 146,000 to 183,000, substantially reducing the ratio of successive appointments. Regarding infrastructure, during the next year, priority will be given to the execution of the expansion of outpatient clinics, a rehabilitation gym, a pharmacy area and new spaces for doctors on duty. In primary care, the expansion of the Orihuela Costa and Guardamar del Segura centres will begin to take its first steps next year.

Improved police services for La Maina residents Officers of the San Fulgencio Local Police are now able to accept and process reports about criminal offences occurring in the municipality. This was established by the mayor and head of Security, José María Ballester, in an order which states “the obligation, from now on, that the Local Police of San Fulgencio will have to provide this procedure to any citizen in its premises, preventing our neighbours from having to turn to other authorities to raise their complaints”. Until now, victims of a crime had to

travel about 8 kilometres by car to the Guardia Civil post located in Guardamar del Segura, “with the consequent difficulty and loss of vital time that this could mean for the development of the investigation,” explained the mayor. Ballester said that there was the added problem of “the large influx that this post had at times, such as during the summer months, and that, on occasion, results in a long wait to be attended”. Now, any citizen of the municipality will be able to carry out this procedure

in Local Police ‘s offices, located in Madrid St., in the la Marina urbanization and the headquarters building, in Plaza de la Constitución, 5 in San Fulgencio. The chief inspector of the Local Police, Cristóbal Rodríguez, specified that these complaints can also be made in situ, “and in the event that the person does not speak the language well, they can be accompanied by another person who can help them to communicate during the process and this does not need to be an official translator”. Once processed by the officers, the

reports will be forwarded to the Guardia Civil in Guardamar to continue with their processing and carry out the relevant proceedings, “with the exception of reports relating to traffic and road safety, in which the Local Police is the competent body”. The mayor described this measure as “pioneering” and “very innovative, as we are the first municipality in our area to provide this service to our fellow citizens, and we believe that it helps them enormously at a very vulnerable time, when they have been victims of a crime”.

Plans to widen N332 in Torrevieja GPs overstretched Torrevieja move forward The Ministry of Ecological Transition has officially notified the Torrevieja City Council about its intention to start the public consultation phase for the environmental evaluation of the National-332 as it passes through Torrevieja. However, the announcement carries a caveat as it will only cover the environmental assessment of slightly more than half of the eight-kilometre route. Specifically, the focus will be on the section between the Torrevieja University Hospital turnoff and the Ozone commercial centre at the access point to the CV-905. This development comes six years after the government initially disclosed the drafting award in June 2018. While the completion of the transport study is a milestone, the subsequent environmental evaluation is now deemed crucial for the definitive approval of the works and subsequent tendering process. A key concern raised by the Torrevieja City Council pertains to the fact that the project under “public consultation only includes” the 4 km segment between the Torrevieja Hospital junction and the intersection with the CV-905.

The current single-lane road handles a substantial traffic volume of 40,000 vehicles daily in each direction. Notoriously prone to delays, especially during peak hours, the identified section is now under scrutiny for potential enhancements. Since 2014, the eight-kilometre stretch has implemented a double continuous line to enhance safety and mitigate the frequency and severity of accidents. The entire ring road features light signals to improve safety during traffic congestions, complemented by radar cameras in two sections. Furthermore, an area flagged as a black spot due to the frequency of serious accidents has been identified. Mayor Eduardo Dolon of Torrevieja explained that this

progress follows a meeting held at the close of the previous year at the Ministry of Development headquarters. During this meeting, the mayor emphasised the need to sped up administrative procedures to facilitate the government’s initiation of the tendering process for the impending works. In light of these developments, the mayor has called for a new meeting at the Ministry of Development’s headquarters to gain insights into the ministry’s projections regarding the future scheduling of the works. The community eagerly awaits further updates as this critical infrastructure project moves through the evaluation and consultation phases.

The Torrevieja Health Authority is grappling with a pressing issue as each primary care doctor within its jurisdiction shoulders the responsibility of an average of 1,512 patients - a ratio now recognised as the highest among all Valencian Community regions. The situation has taken a downturn following the transition away from private management under Ribera Salud. Now, the 100×100 Public Health Platform has voiced its public condemnation of the unacceptable conditions, staging a protest at the La Loma health centre. Citing data from the 2022 management report, a period during which the Authority has been under the management of the Ministry of Health for the past two years, the Platform has underscored the severity of the situation. Platform spokespersons, Manuel Gómez and Eva Delafuente, have emphasized that the “direct consequence” of

this high doctor-patient ratio is a notable decrease in healthcare activity in primary care and mental health. This is measured by the number of consultations conducted, making Torrevieja one of the regions with the lowest activity in the Valencian Community, excluding provincial capitals. Despite having the largest number of registered populations in regional areas (204,000 with a SIP card) and the highest percentage of individuals over 65 years old (more than 30%), Torrevieja records over one hundred thousand fewer primary care consultations in 2022 than the regional average. The most severely impacted by these deficiencies, according to the Platform, are the level 3 chronically ill patients. These individuals, often immobilized at home, experience a stark comparison with other regions, bordering on abandonment with just one visit for every eight, on average.

The Platform’s assessment identifies these patients as the socially “most disadvantaged” group, and it underscores the inadequacy of mental health services in Torrevieja. With only 6 psychologists, 6 psychiatrists, and 11 specialized nurses, the city displays a concerning rate of mental health visits. The Ministry of Health, however, counters the claims, asserting that the Platform is utilising data from 2022. According to the Ministry, the current ratio of primary doctors in the Torrevieja health department is 1,414 patients on average, deemed “within the standard established by the Ministry.” In Pediatrics, the average patient load per doctor has also seen a reduction during the current year, now standing at 850 patients. The ongoing dialogue between the Ministry and the Platform sheds light on the challenges faced by the health system in Torrevieja and the efforts being made to address them.

Pedro Sanchez re-elected prime minister of Spain Spain’s acting Socialist prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, was re-elected by a majority of legislators in a parliamentary vote Thursday (16th November), allowing him to form a new minority leftist coalition government. Sánchez was backed by 179 lawmakers in the 350-seat lower house of parliament. Only right-wing opposition deputies voted against him. The vote came after nearly two days of debate among party leaders that centred almost entirely on a highly controversial amnesty deal for Catalonia’s separatists that Sánchez agreed to in return for vital support to get elected prime minister again. Sánchez won the vote after clinching the support of six smaller parties — including two Catalan separatist parties — in recent weeks, allowing him to achieve the majority of lawmakers needed to be reelected and form another minority coalition government with the left-wing Sumar (Joining Forces) party. Spain’s inconclusive national elections on July 23 left a highly fractured parliament. The centreright Popular Party received the most votes in the elections but failed to get enough support to form a government because

of its alliances with the far-right Vox party, which finished third. The Socialists finished second with 121 seats. It remains to be seen if Sánchez can maintain enough support to last the next four years. The amnesty deal that Sánchez’s Socialists signed with two key Catalan separatist parties that command 14 votes would clean the slate for hundreds of Catalan separatists in legal trouble following the northeast region’s illegal 2017 secession bid that sparked Spain’s biggest crisis in decades. The amnesty law would benefit former Catalan regional president Carles Puigdemont, who is a fugitive from Spanish law and considered public enemy No. 1 by many Spaniards. Despite lingering disagreements, the two Catalan parties as well as two Basque ones said they would back Sánchez but let him know that he must fulfil the economic and political deals reached with each of them. The two Basque parties pointed out that their support was also key to keeping a progressive government in power and making sure the right wing remained out of office. Spain’s judiciary has criticised the proposed amnesty. The European Union is reviewing

it. The proposal sparked street protests backed by the Popular Party and Vox, which accuse Sánchez of betraying the nation just to stay in power. Protests outside the Socialist party’s headquarters in Madrid turned ugly last week and again on Wednesday night. “The only real reproach that the right makes against us is that with these agreements we will have won the government. Which is what is going to happen today,” Sánchez said prior to the vote. The speaker of the house will now convey the result to King Felipe VI. Once published in the State Gazette, Sánchez was sworn as the new prime minister before the king.

Torrevieja city Council enhances historic value of ingue Warf The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, along with the Councillor for Culture, Antonio Quesada, the mayor of Heritage, Domingo Paredes, and members of the Advisory Committee of the Eras de la Sal, headed by Vicente Esteban Chapapría, visited this morning, after an intense working meeting, the archaeological work being carried out in the so-called Muelle Mínguez, located on the fishing pier, opposite the historic Bar La Marina. The archaeologist José Ramón Ortega explained that these works are recovering what remains of this pier of the nineteenth century and is well preserved in terms of its sandstone ashlars. An action that aims to bring to light what was the first existing dock in the harbor basin of Torrevieja. The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, has reported that the intention of this action is to value this historical element of the city and can be visited to make it known, since, moreover, the pier Mínguez is a unique work, nonexistent in other locations in Spain. The mayor announced that in the coming days the rehabilitation project will be sent to the drafting team of the Eras de la Sal so that during the first quarter of next year 2024 can begin to run. Only dock exists in Torrevieja from the1870s to the 1950s In the bay and bay of Torrevieja,

the so-called Muelle Mínguez was the only existing dock from the 1870s to the 1950s. It allowed the loading and unloading of goods, especially fishing and garden products from the Vega Baja. It is true that there were two docks at the Eras de la Sal, which the State had built: the first one on the west side, built in 1777, and the one on the east side between 1835 and 1841. On the latter was built the trestle that was in operation from 1898 to 1958. But only salt from the lagoon was loaded at the Eras de la Sal docks. Until the Muelle Mínguez was built, ships were loaded and unloaded by beaching themselves on the beach between the Cornuda point and the site of that pier. Antonio Mínguez was one of the most influential people of Torrevieja at the time and was mayor of the city at different times in this period of great upheaval. Once the Mínguez wharf was built, all loading and unloading operations other than salt had to be done on that wharf. Disappearence of the Minguez Wharf The disappearance, functional but not physical, of the Muelle Mínguez took place in the 1950s when the new fishing pier was built, which still exists today. In March 1957, several engineers went to Torrevieja to examine on site what was to be the fishing port of Torrevieja. During 1958, the backfilling

works behind the fishing pier were carried out at a good pace. The Mínguez wharf was embedded from 1959 in the first alignment of the fishing pier. In the second alignment, in the mid-1960s, the fish market and other auxiliary buildings for fishing were built. The “filling” of the port divided the fishing pier, so that, since then, only the west side of the Mínguez pier has been visible, leaving in sight the ashlars, a ramp, a staircase and some noráis, all of them very beautiful elements. This pier is a historical and heritage asset of undoubted value that has

been preserved by being embedded in the port infrastructure built later in Torrevieja. It is included in the Catalogue of the General Town Planning of Torrevieja as a HistoricArtistic Monumental Element. In order to ensure its conservation, it has been proposed the declaration of the Muelle Mínguez as an Asset of Local Relevance (BRL), taking advantage of the legal figure of protection of cultural heritage that appears in the regulations of the Valencian Community and by which those properties that possess, at the regional or local level, historical,

artistic, architectural, archaeological, paleontological or ethnological values in relevant degree, although without the uniqueness of the property declared of cultural interest are considered to be real estate of local relevance. Finally, the proposed BRL declaration should include, as part of the Mínguez pier complex, the building currently occupied by the establishment known as La Marina bar, since it has been part of the history of this space and contributes to the uniqueness of the complex and its identity and typological-traditional values.

Renovations underway on Rubalcava Palace The Councilor for Urban Planning at the Orihuela City Council , Matías Ruiz, has paid a visit to the Rubalcava Palace to see first-hand the state of the rehabilitation works that are being carried out and reaching the final phase of its rehabilitation. . Currently, the piling work is very advanced and is expected to be completed in two or three weeks, which means that the building will be reinforced and ready to move on to the second phase. “There are only 30 micropiles left to finish and start with the tying beams. Let’s say this is the most complicated, long and slow phase, but once it is ready we will begin to see clear progress,” explained the Urban Planning councillor. After the subsidence problems detected by the company executing the works that slowed down its execution and other bureaucratic problems that have been quickly corrected by the Urban Planning Department, the rehabilitation is currently progressing at a good pace. “Thanks to these micropiles and tying beams we managed to sew the structure and the foundation, structurally securing the work, avoiding the risk of collapse or collapse,” explained Matías Ruiz.

Everything seems to indicate that by mid-December the masonry, plumbing and electrical work, among others, will begin. Rubalcava Palace The Palace is located in the urban area of Orihuela, in the area of influence of the church of Santiago (BIC) and very close to the Palace of the Marquis of Arneva, City Hall and the church of Santa Justa and Rufina.

It occupies a fairly elongated rectangular plot of 1,718m2 with the building approximately in the center and with the main façade facing Francisco Die Street and lateral to the Hospital and Health Plaza, and two other façades facing the plot itself. The occupation of the building is 872m2 and the garden areas are 846m2. These border the Plaza de Santiago to the north and a narrow alley to the south.

How can Whitney Houston, Nirvana and Bob Marley help your savings? In many of the bars along the Spanish Costas, the music of these artists can often be heard. Most of us will have grown up listening to them. But what do they have to do with your savings? Exodus Spanish expats aim for a long-term return above inflation with investments and tax efficiency in their new homeland. In the same way, we pass down our music heritage to future generations, many of us also want to leave money to them. Family members often live in our former country. Therefore, financial planning and investment recommendations must be holistic to consider clients’ needs and offer diversification. All Apologies Since covid, central banks began hiking interest rates in

earnest because of rising inflation. Mortgage interest rates rose first, then deposit savings. Now headline rates appear generous in places we used to live, such as the UK. Spanish rates have not been so competitive. What has happened to investment portfolios in the same period?

This acts as a hedge when bonds and stocks are volatile. One of the investments companies that Seagate uses includes this in their portfolios and receives royalties from the above artists.

Most managed portfolios historically feature stocks (shares) and bonds. Theoretically when one went down the other went up. Over the last two years, both bonds and stocks have proved volatile so current high interest rates appear attractive.

For those of our clients who are invested in this way, it provides a ‘Higher Love’ when ‘Sun is Shining’ is played in a local bar or one of their grandkids buys ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’. The music and the income stream have been around long before current high interest rates and will continue afterwards.

Same script different cast Other diversifying assets, such as infrastructure and property, have now made their way into peoples’ portfolios to counter this. One option to use is music royalties. The more the music is played, the more income is generated.

How will I know? If you would like to find out more about investment diversification, call us today. For a free no-obligation review of your investments, call us on 965704338 or email: contact@Seagatewealth.es

Help ega President ichele asson presented ith her On Friday 3rd November, joined by family and friends, President of HELP Vega Baja, Michele Masson was presented with her BEM medal by the British Ambassador, Mr Hugh Elliot. The ceremony was held at the Melia Hotel, Alicante. After 15 years in the NHS Michele moved to Spain in 2002 , she believed her career was over and that she was entering early retirement. Nothing could have been further from the truth! Many years of caring for family members followed which required Michele to travel back and forward to the UK whilst also caring for an aunt living in Spain. In 2009 caring commitments ended and once again Michele had time on her hands and sought out volunteering possibilities. Having a love for dogs she joined an animal charity and was frequently at the local dog shelter in Torrevieja, choosing dogs that she felt needed more care when they were awaiting adoption. Apparently, many dogs were made welcome in her garage which was complete with tv, toys, treats and lots of loving. After a short spell with a local cancer group, Michele felt that she needed more of a challenge and went along to HELP Vega Baja in San Miguel to offer

her services as a volunteer. Starting off as Publicity officer for the charity helped her build good relationships with local press and other organisations. Several months down the line the then acting president stood down and a new president was needed. Michele said “I went home following a committee meeting and told my husband Tony that the acting president had stood down and said I wonder who would fill that role! Unexpectedly, Tony suggested that I should put my CV in. We talked for some time about the implications, and I concluded that it may be something I would really enjoy so off I went the following day with my CV in hand. A couple of weeks later a meeting was held and before I knew it my ID badge was changed and now read President! I am now on my 10th year as President, and I could not be prouder of the achievements we have made. The floods of 2019, Brexit and of course Covid are just a few of the challenges that we have gone through, and charity world can be a crazy place to be in, but I would not have it any way. It can be a rollercoaster of emotions from tears to laughter and all things in between. Along the journey I set up a local CARE group which brought together people from various charities (both English and

Spanish speaking). This proved to be very popular and provided the opportunity for charities to work together to increase the support offered to people. I was totally honoured to receive the BEM for Services to British Nationals living in Spain although it seemed so strange that such a wonderful day was organised for little old me from Weston super Mare! When I moved to Spain, I really didn’t imagine for one minute that I would be President of a charity but I guess you never know what life will bring! Car thief arrested in Torrevieja Orihuela opens a public The Civil Guard and the Local Police of El Campello have arrested an individual for the theft of a vehicle in El Albir, and have recovered the tourism. The vehicle was located in El Campello, thanks to the video surveillance cameras installed by the city council in various areas of the municipality. In addition, the theft of another vehicle in the month of July in Torrevieja has been investigated. The joint action of both police forces was launched after the video surveillance alert system of the El Campello City Council detected the license plate of the vehicle stolen on October 16 in

El Albir, circulating through the urban center of El Campello. In response, operational devices were deployed to control vehicles on the main roads of the municipality, resulting in the location of the car parked in the urban area of El Campello. After several hours of surveillance, the agents observed an individual, using a key, opening the vehicle and accessing its interior. The subject, with multiple records for crimes against property and pending judicial requirements in courts in Benidorm, Denia and Villajoyosa, was immediately arrested. The detainee was transferred

to the Alicante Guard and Instruction Court, which ordered his release with precautionary measures. In addition to the crime of vehicle theft in El Albir, he is charged with another similar crime that occurred in July in the parking lot of a supermarket in Torrevieja. The installation of video surveillance cameras by the El Campello City Council was essential for the detection of the stolen vehicle in this municipality. The effective coordination between the Civil Guard and the Local Police of El Campello was key to identifying and arresting the alleged perpetrator of the robbery.

consultation to improve the markets

The Markets Department of the Orihuela City Council has opened a public consultation to collect the opinion of merchants, merchants and neighbors to improve the General Ordinance Regulating Non-Sedentary Sales in the municipality of Orihuela. The current Orihuela Markets ordinance was definitively approved on December 29, 2022, but the area councilor Noelia Grao believes that it can be improved. For this reason, Grao has encouraged the most representative organizations affected by the future norm to

make their suggestions until November 30 to the Markets Department through the municipal registry (in person or through the electronic office) or by sending an email to the address mercado@orihuela.es Grao considers that “an ordinance cannot be something closed that is not susceptible to modification, if once it is implemented it is detected that some aspects of it can be improved,” and adds that “in addition, markets are apart from a tradition important in our municipality, a local commercial

activity that offers good products at a good price, being very useful for our citizens. Therefore, the better its operation, the greater the benefit will be for everyone.” The Councilor for Markets has indicated that prior to the development of this project “I consider it essential to have the opinion of all neighbors, merchants and merchants.” This is established in accordance with the provisions of article 133 of law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

GBP / EUR UPDATE GBP GBP/EUR ranged has in the 1.14-1.1450 area in the last few weeks with little signs of changing substantially. While GBP/USD is sitting at around 1.24. Rishi Sunak began his cabinet reshuffle on Monday morning, with Suella Braverman the first to be replaced by former Foreign Secretary James Cleverly. As Cleverly assumed the position of Home Secretary, former Prime Minister David Cameron made a surprise return to government as the new Foreign Secretary. The reshuffle has ignited speculation of an early general election next year. Political change can be a significant driver of currency movement, so we’ll be keeping an eye on the pound as further changes are expected to come next week. The UK’s CPI Inflation data was released on Wednesday, posting the lowest level in 2 years. Headline inflation fell from 6.7% in September to 4.6% in the twelve months to October, representing the most significant inflationary slowdown since 1992. The figures came in below the Bank of England’s and market expectations, which forecast a reading of 4.8%. This will be welcome news to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who has now fulfilled his pledge to halve inflation by the end of the year. The data has also fuelled speculation about the Bank of England’s next move surrounding interest rates. According to the Office of National Statistics this morning, UK retail sales fell by 0.3% during October. Forecasts had anticipated a return to growth last month after negative readings in the total value of inflation-adjusted retail sales for the three previous months. The report cited consumer cutbacks as the reason behind the surprise fall, which could add

more weight to the outlook that interest rate hikes are beginning to impact the economy. Online and in-store sales have been at their lowest since February 2021, when Covid restrictions were in place. The result saw the pound fall against the dollar, following a 2-cent gain since the weekend. The pairing has now fallen from its 1.25 peak at the start of Friday’s trading session to 1.2370.

EUR After a very quiet week on the data front last week, we saw Europe’s growth and employment change data released earlier this week. The European Union’s statistics office, Eurostat, reported the collective GDP of the 20 countries sharing the euro fell 0.1% between July and September, compared to the previous quarter. However, there was better news for the EU concerning employment, which rose by 0.3% in the same period. This contributed to an overall 1.4% year-on-year growth in employment across the region. A slump in growth is often reflected in a similarly negative trend in employment. However, the data seems to point to more resilience in the labour market than would perhaps be expected. From a currency perspective, the light volume of incoming data hasn’t negatively impacted the euro, which has risen to a two-and-a-half-month high. The single currency is now sitting at almost 1.09 against the dollar – 4 cents higher than midOctober when we saw the dollar index (DXY) peak at 1.07. The DXY has now fallen back to 104.30 - the lowest since early September – which could signify that the euro’s gains have mainly resulted from the dollar’s weakness. However, the slight euro strength should not be discounted.

A marijuana plantation dismantled after complaints about bad odors in Catral

The Alicante Civil Guard, thanks to citizen collaboration, has dismantled a marijuana plantation inside a company in Catral. The person responsible for the business has been investigated for a crime against public health for marijuana cultivation. In addition, the Segura Hydrographic Confederation has been informed of the incorrect accumulation of manure piles, which could generate a problem for public health. During the inspection carried out by the agents of the Nature Protection Service ( SEPRONA ) of Orihuela, it was discovered that behind the smell of manure a strong smell of marijuana was hidden. Given this revelation, the

The police report, along with the seized drugs, has been made

available to the Orihuela Guard and Instruction Court. Improvements start on San Carlos Industrial Park in Redovan Redován City Council launches one of the projects that had pending a grant, already approved by the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and with the aim of improving, modernizing and providing infrastructure and services to the Industrial Park San Carlos. The mayoress, Nely Ruiz, signed yesterday the act of reconsideration along with the technical direction of the work, which corresponds to the company Cauce, and the company that will carry it out, Construcciones Zaplana Caselles. The councilman of Urbanism, David Ballesta, has specified that these works, which will be ready in about three months, “will be an important leap in quality in the environment of this polygon to which hundreds of people come daily to work, but also used, for example, as a route for walking or sports from the town center”. The redovanense Consistory has taken into account all the uses that are given to the polygon and therefore, the works also include a recreation

area with bio -healthy g a m e s . The bulk of this action is made up of the identification signage of the streets of the industrial estate, with horizontal traffic signs and a directory of companies and services at the entrance from the N-340 and the improvement of street lighting through LED lighting, which also improves the energy efficiency of the area. The industrial park will also be equipped with high resolution security cameras connected to the Local Police. David Ballesta has specified that the project also takes into account the needs of people with reduced mobility. Thus, the pedestrian route is continuous (without sudden interruptions, loose steps, etc.), the grids may be passable both for people walking and in wheelchairs or with shopping

carts or baby and benches and garbage cans, in addition to being accessible, will not hinder at any time or act as an obstacle in the pedestrian route. The budget for these works, including VAT, amounts to 182,549.30 euros “an investment as important as necessary in an area of our municipality that, due to its characteristics and location, more and more companies choose to locate,” said the councilman of Urbanism, who added that “once we complete the works, will also have the incentive to be an attractive, sustainable and friendly area with people.”

Torrevieja church celebrates 100 years and re-opens after almost four years The small church at Urbanización Lago Jardin, opposite the Dña Monse Hotel on the CV95, is re-opening for worship on Friday 1st December at 1130 with a special Mass to celebrate its one hundredth birthday. Having been closed for almost four years its centenary is being celebrated in the local church community. Father Richard A. Seabrook SSC, the Priest responsible for Lago Jardín Church, said: We are thrilled to be able to open this beautiful little church once again and use it for the purpose for which it was built one hundred years – the offering of the Holy Eucharist to the glory of God. It´s really good to know that we can open its doors once more for the church´s 100th birthday. The church is an architectural gem. The church was originally the chapel for the now dilapidated Los Balcones house owned by a local Orihuela family and used for Mass when the family stayed in the house during summer months. They brought a priest with them so that the Mass could be celebrated when the family were staying at the house. Even though the original house has almost fallen down

the church is in a lovely condition, said Father Seabrook, and we are in the process of doing some small pieces of remedial work to get the church looking its best again. It is a real delight and we are thrilled it will be in use again. I hope people will come and take a look. It´s a prayerful and peaceful place. The church is having two open days on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th from 1000 – 1600 for people to have a look inside before its celebration on Friday 1st December. During December there are going to be a number of special services at the church. On Friday 8th December at 1130 there is a Mass to celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary; on Tuesday 12th December there is carol singing outside the church from 1800 – 1900; and on Christmas Eve, 24th December, there will be a Vigil Mass at 1700 to celebrate the Nativity of Christ. In 2024, added Father Seabrook, we are going to

start celebrating Mass again there on Sundays at 1130 on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We´ll advertise everything on the noticeboard outside. It´s a really exciting time for us to be growing the church´s worship life once again. For further information you can contact Father Richard A. Jorge Motos stars in ‘No es tan raro’, a short film by Nhood Spain that makes social phobia more visible Grupo Nhood España has just released “No es tan raro”, a short film starring Jorge Motos that is part of its campaign to raise awareness of the reality of one of the most invisible mental health disorders: anxiety or social phobia. 13% of Spaniards suffer from anxiety or social phobia, one of the most common anxiety disorders that consists of the persistent fear of being humiliated while exposed to other people. With early detection and intervention of this disorder, its effects can be minimized and its further development can be prevented in the future. Jorge Motos (previously nominated for Best Actor at the Goya Awards) gives life to the protagonist of this story, Pablo, a boy who is starting college

and, suffering from this disorder, has to face a series of decisions that are a great effort for him. The story tries to make visible all that a person who lives with this anxiety has to go through on a daily basis. Several studies conclude that more than half of the adolescents present or have presented the common characteristics of this disorder, which affects mostly university students, making it difficult for them, on numerous occasions, even to finish their studies. The direction of this short film produced by TheWokis and Gadol Producciones, whose casting is completed by Gonzalo Seijas and Ana Ponomarenko as two essential characters in the plot, falls on Miguel Ángel Olivares. Several shopping centers

around the country are collaborating in this Nhood España initiative: Vialia Vigo, Zenia Boulevard, Parque Rioja, Sant Boi, Alcampo La Laguna, Alcampo Tamarguillo, Alcampo Telde, El Ventanal de la Sierra, Camino de la Plata and Alcampo Mallorca. The campaign is supported by ÍTACO Psicología (Instituto Terapéutico de Análisis de la Conducta), which is a partner of this action and lends itself to help both people suffering from this disorder and their environment. Raising money for Elche Childrens Care Home Pat Milligan organised a great event last week at Alannia Camping Catral. Woody was the entertainer and over 1150 euros was raised for Elche Childrens Care Home. The monies raised will help to purchase pyjamas, slippers and dressing gowns for the children to be warm for Christmas. Pat would like to thank the hard working staff that served really tasty chicken, chips and salad. Pat commentd that the staff could not do enough and were extremely quick bringing the food out and very helpful. Thank you also to the helpers Mati Cuthbert, Sue & John Holden and the Elche Childrens Care Home volunteers. Thank you to everyone that brought raffle prizes. Pat was overwhelmed by the support Last but not least Pat would like to thank everyone for attending and making it such a successful day.

CostaBlancaPeople 21st - 27th November 2023

Your tech questions answered by Brian Hoile of the Costa Blanca Technology Help Group, helping over 320 members with their PCs , smartphones and more. Group members can attend meetings in person or online using Zoom or Teams. If you have a question or problem with any household technology needing my help or want to join the Technology Help Group please email Brian at cbtechnology.help@gmail.com. As a group member, you would have access to the group website which contains previous session notes, handouts and access to previous Costa Blanca People published articles. Scan the QR for a reminder of what the Costa Blanca Technology Help Group offers. Please note that we have a new venue for our Monthly Meetings. I am pleased to announce that we are now meeting at Dilly’s Bar, Av. Castuera, 3, 03184 El Chaparral, Alicante. Group meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 10:00 to 12:00. You are welcome to attend. “Can two people share a mobile phone and computer and have separate and private accounts?“ If two people each have a Google

account, they can get access to their individual Google account on the same device. Each Google account gives access to all Google Apps which includes Google Drive Cloud Storage. The easiest way to manage this is to open Google Chrome and search for Google.co.uk. Login to your Google account. To the left of your profile picture, there are 9 square dots. Select these dots and you then have access to all Google Apps associated with that Google Account by scrolling down through the list of Apps. To swap to the other person’s Google account press on your profile picture and select the other person’s Google account. You can swap between Google accounts as required. If you want to keep your Google account secret from the other person sharing your device then you need to LOG OUT of your Google account each time you have finished with it. When either of you want to access your individual Google account you need to login to your account using your email address and Google password. For complete security and privacy of your individual Google

account, you should keep your password private and not share it with the other users of your devices. To share a home computer each user can have separate accounts for each person who will use the computer. Each person gets their own storage, applications, desktops, settings, and so on. One person, the PC’s administrator, sets up and manages all the accounts, including a variety of system settings that only the administrator can access. “My Cloud Storage is getting close to the maximum allowed for free. What can I do?“ To delete your Google Drive or One Drive files, move them to the Bin. Files in the bin will be automatically deleted after 30 days but while in the bin still count toward your storage allowance. You can permanently delete them by emptying your bin. When you delete a file or folder on Cloud Storage with one device, you won’t be able to find it on your other devices but will be in the Recycle bin if deleted on your computer. Adapt Theatre Group outdoor broadcast

The Adapt Theatre Group pantomime are unique in a number of ways, just one of which is the use of video to tell some of the story, filmed locally with well-known people from San Pedro joining in the fun. It all started with Snow White and the hunter with the pig’s heart being filmed in a spoofy way in San Pedro’s sand dunes. This created a trend and since then we have had Aladdin’s monkey Abu being arrested by local police, Peter Pan rescuing Wendy at the landmark boat roundabout, Pinocchio rescuing Gepetto using a canoe in the Mar Menor and Marcos, curator of

San Pedro’s museum, along with the Councillor for Culture, acting as ogre and ogress in Puss in Boots. This year’s Ali Baba and the Four and Half Thieves, is no exception. Town hall premises have been transformed to fit in with the tale, with some dramatic special effects and two local “celebrities” helping us to create the scene. Come along and find out what it’s all about! Ali Baba and the Four and ½ Thieves takes place at The Casa De Cultura, C/ Alcalde Julio Albaladejo, San Pedro Del Pinatar on 30th November, 1st December and

2nd December all at 7.00pm and 3rd December at 12.00 noon. Tickets priced at 4€ are available from: Bar Amigos Avda Las Salinas, San Pedro; Mail Pinatar (SEUR) c/ Reyes Católicos, San Pedro Animal Amigos Charity Home Shop, C/ Penelope Oasis Blvd, Los Alcázares. The Adapt Theatre Group is sponsored by the Adapt Metal Detecting group and this year’s profits will go to the AFEMAR charity in San Pedro for people suffering from mental illness. What do our patients with a Health Premium Services card think? I heard about te Health Premium Card in December and immediately went in January and bought one. It was very nice to come to Premium Lounge. Susana Yepes, Health Advisor, explained to me what was included in the card and asked me if there was anything in particular that I had in mind and I told her that I had been waiting a long time

to see a gastro specialist. She asked if I wanted to meet one now? Included in this card are consultations with 3 specialists who go over the main things that can be wrong and send people for all kinds of tests. Everyone here at the Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja has been great and everyone is ready to help and do their best for you and with a smile. I have recommended the Health Premium Card to all my friends and they say the same and are happy to be able to do it all in one place. Emma Reitmair We were looking for an international private hospital with modern technology but who also offered a high personal service level combined with a complete “health package” and we have found it at Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja. At our first meeting we meet our personal Health Advisor (Susana Yepes) who took fantastic good care of us. We

felt very comfortable and she answered all our questions. Susana booked our appointments (no waiting list at all), even walked us to where we had our various appointments, much appreciated. Meanwhile waiting in the exclusive premium lounge for our appointments, we were offered coffee, drinks, various fruits and sandwich. Also useful is the practical Quirónsalud App. There we can find our appointments, medical journals, documents and other useful information. This hospital is on another level when it comes to efficiency and professional healthcare service combined with excellent personal commitment which we appreciate highly. Sue´s story - living with multiple sclerosis After a going away for a week’s holiday, something felt odd when my daughters and I got home. My eldest son and his wife had been asked to take our pet dog for a week. I had a feeling that something was not right, so I walked around the house. Our beds had been slept in; my daughters always leave their rooms tidy and impeccable. Both of them said their bedrooms had been disturbed, as nothing was in its right place - they said their bed smelled ‘slept in’; when we left the bedding was freshly laundered. Worryingly, both of our daughters’ chests of drawers had underwear in them, that had clearly been riffled through. We came to the conclusion that my son and his family had spent the week

living, and sleeping there. This was not the arrangement. Our daughter-in -law has a teenage son from a former relationship, and our girls are mortified that he had been sleeping in their room with access to their personal things. I haven’t yet approached my son. I am sure he knew that if he’d asked me, I would have said no; so he’s deliberately been sneaky, and it has made me angry. Ok, the damage has been done. If you go away again, make other arrangements for your dog; and I would have a lock changed on the front door to prevent further intrusion. Your son knew what was required of him, and broke your trust.

It took my family a while to realise that pushing me to do things didn’t work, even though I knes that they meant well. “It’s all in your mind” my husband would say. What he didn’t understand was ,YES, it was my mind that wasn’t communicating with my muscles. Most of my family & friends now know if I say I need a minute, they need to be patient with me. I’m a great believer that if I keep the pain away I can manage my MS, but if I’m in pain, I can be a right pain. Things just seem too difficult to manage and I can’t be bothered, doesn’t happen very often, luckily. Since we have moved to Spain, my condition has improved. My aches and pains are not as severe and I am not so stressed. The sunshine and the relaxed way of life is a definite tonic. I like to keep bus. I play bowls with the aid of my stick and have even competed in competitions. I also play crib once a week and go to quizzes on a regular basis. I have some loyal friends and we like to socialise as often as possible, supporting the local bars and restaurants. My husband and I also

attend as many events run by The Association of Movers And Shakers, as we can. “Movers and Shakers” is a local charity set up to support people with Ataxia; Huntington’s Disease; Motor Neurone Disease; Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s. They hold a get together every Friday afternoon, where members

meet up for a drink and maybe something to eat. It is a good opportunity for members and their carers to sit in a relaxed atmosphere, have a chat and know that they are not alone. Steve and I go as often as we can, when we are not playing bowls. Sue Wilson, November 2023

When to replace the brakes: A comprehensive guide for drivers If you hear grinding or squeaking sounds when you apply the brakes, if your car pulls to one side when you brake, or if you feel a vibration or pulsation in the brake pedal, it’s time to have your brakes checked. Brakes are one of the most important safety features on a car, but many drivers don’t know when to replace them. Waiting too long to replace your brakes can be dangerous and costly, which is why it’s important to know the signs that your brakes need to be replaced. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about when to replace your brakes. We’ll discuss the different types of brakes, how to check your brakes, and when to take your car to a professional for brake repair. By the end of this post, you’ll have a better understanding of when to replace your brakes and how to keep your car safe on the road.

Why brake replacement is important Brake replacement is a vital part of maintaining a vehicle’s safety and functionality. Over time, the brakes wear down due to normal use, and if not replaced, they can cause serious issues such as reduced stopping power or even complete brake failure. The last thing any driver wants is to have their brakes fail when they need them the most, such as in an emergency situation on the road. Brakes are made up of various components, including brake pads, rotors, calipers, and brake fluid. Each of these components plays an important role in ensuring that the vehicle can safely slow down and stop when needed. As the brake pads wear down, for example, they become less effective

in creating friction with the rotor, which can lead to longer stopping distances and increased wear on other brake components. It’s important for drivers to keep an eye on their brakes and replace them when necessary to ensure optimal performance and safety on the road. Brake replacement may seem like an unnecessary expense, but it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind and avoiding potential accidents or costly repairs down the line. By understanding the importance of brake replacement, drivers can take proactive steps to keep their vehicles in top condition and ensure their safety on the road. How brakes work and when they wear out One of the most important safety features of any vehicle is its brakes. Understanding how brakes work and when they wear out is crucial for any driver. When you press the brake pedal, it activates a hydraulic system that uses brake fluid to transfer pressure to the brake pads. The brake pads then clamp down on the rotor, which slows down and eventually stops the vehicle. Over time, the constant friction from braking wears down the brake pads, causing them to become thinner and less effective. A good rule of thumb is to replace your brake pads every 50,000 miles, but this can vary depending on your driving style and the type of vehicle you have. There are also warning signs that your brakes may need to be replaced sooner. Squeaking or squealing noises when you brake, a vibrating or pulsating brake pedal, or a longer stopping distance are all indications that your brakes may be worn out and in need of attention.

Ignoring these warning signs can lead to more serious problems, such as damage to the rotors or brake calipers. It’s important to have your brakes checked regularly by a professional mechanic and to replace them when necessary to ensure your safety on the road.

Signs that it’s time to replace the brakes It’s important for drivers to be aware of the signs that it’s time to replace the brakes on their vehicle. The brakes are one of the most important components of a car, and driving with worn out or damaged brakes can be extremely dangerous. Here are some signs to look out for that indicate it’s time to get your brakes replaced: 1. Squeaking or grinding noises - If you hear a high-pitched squeaking or a grinding sound when you apply the brakes, it’s likely that the brake pads are worn out and need to be replaced. 2. Vibrations - If you feel a vibration or pulsation in the brake pedal when you press down on it, it could be a sign of worn out brake pads, rotors or calipers. 3. Longer stopping distance - If your car takes longer to come to a complete stop or the stopping distance is longer than usual, it may be time to replace the brake pads. 4. Pulling to one side - If your car pulls to one side when you apply the brakes, it may be a sign of a stuck caliper or uneven wear on the brake pads. 5. Dashboard warning light - Most modern cars have a warning light on the dashboard that illuminates when the brake pads are worn out

or when there is a problem with the braking system. If this light comes on, it’s important to get your brakes checked as soon as possible. If you experience any of these signs, it’s time to take your car to a trusted mechanic and have the brakes inspected. Don’t wait until it’s too late – ensuring your brakes are in good condition is essential to your safety on the road. The lifespan of different brake components Understanding the lifespan of different brake components is crucial in determining when to replace the brakes. Brake pads, for example, are the most common part of the braking system that needs to be replaced. However, their lifespan can vary depending on the type of driving and the quality of the brake pad material. Generally, brake pads can last anywhere from 30,000 to 70,000 miles. As a rule of

thumb, it’s recommended to replace brake pads every 50,000 miles. Brake rotors, on the other hand, can last much longer than brake pads, but they do require replacement eventually. The lifespan of brake rotors can vary depending on the type of driving, driving conditions, and the quality of the rotors. High-quality brake rotors can last anywhere from 70,000 to 100,000 miles. However, if the brake rotors are subjected to extreme heat, such as during aggressive driving or driving in hilly areas, they may need to be replaced sooner. Brake lines, calipers, and drums also have a lifespan and should be checked regularly for wear and tear. Brake lines, for example, can last up to 100,000 miles if they are properly maintained, while calipers and drums can last up to 150,000 miles. It’s important to have your brake system inspected regularly to ensure that all components are in good condition and functioning properly.

Gusty plus problems After losing two race days due to events at CTD, plus a third due to a lack of members to run them, ten SAMM sailors again took to the water on November 12th, looking forward to great racing. The NNW 11 knot wind as the boats launched soon gusted to 15/18 knots forcing the three dinghies to return to the beach to reef their sails. This left just the two Sailfish 18’s to start alone at 11.15. The Race Officer decided that this would not make for a good race, so abandoned it and rescheduled a 12.00 start. Only two dinghies returned to race, one competitor deciding the conditions were not to his liking. Then disaster! One of the Sailfish was seen returning to it’s mooring with the mast laying on the deck, having collapsed when the fore-stay snapped. The start signal sounded at 12.00 and the two dinghies crossed within 20 seconds but the Sailfish was nearly 4 minutes late. The wind continued to deliver challenging conditions, first dropping to N 7/8 knots, then to 3 knots but then gusting to 12/15 knots. The Sailfish managed just two laps in the 45 minute race, both dinghies did four but all boats crossed the finish line within a minute.

The second race started at 13.00 and all boats crossed withing a few seconds. The conditions were the same, winds of 8 knots but with sudden 15 knot or higher gusts. The two dinghies had a great battle the entire race. The lead changed frequently as the

crews tried different tracks around the course to gain a permanent advantage. Neither did and, in a spectacular finish, they were neck and neck timed just 1 second apart. SAMM use the Average Lap race system and after the handicaps were

applied the two results gave the same order, First the dinghy Cuatro, second dinghy Dos, third Sailfish Ginetta. Want to know more about SAMM go to www.salingmarmenor.com Photo: Cuatro’s crew L to R Steve Hall, Dianne Hardwick and Jack Moss

Lo Crispin Golf Society at El Plantio On 15th November, 24 members of the Society ‘teed it up’ at El Plantio golf course to compete in an Individual Stableford competition. Hardly a breath of wind and sunny skies, made for almost perfect conditions for playing golf. Although the scoring was generally quite good, fast greens ensured that putting was quite testing on many of the greens. We returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern as usual where the helpful and friendly staff supplied us with Tapas and the day’s prizes were distributed.

Abbey Anglers On Tuesday the 14th of November we made the final journey of the year across into the Murcia region to fish the Embalse De Argos. Fishing took place on both the Tuesday and the Wednesday and was fished in temperatures in the high twenties. Nine anglers took part on both days and we fished in two section around either side of the match point, with pegs 1 to 4 on the cold side and pegs 5 to 9 on the sunny side. At the start of the match the anglers on the sunny side were in shorts and t shirts whilst on the cold side they were wearing fleece jackets and trousers. Winner on the first day on the

Gold Division 1st Place - Steve King 34 pts off 18 (on count back) 2nd Place - Andy Quinn 34 pts off 9 3rd Place - Richard Brady 28 pts off 15

Silver Division 1st Place - Julie King 31 pts off 32 (on count back) 2nd Place - Carl Rodel 31 pts off 24 3rd Place - Frank Hanrahan 29 pts off 27 N.T.P. on Par 3s Hole 7 - Rod Pullen

fancied peg 7 was Gary Plant. Gary fished the method feeder at about 40m to take some lovely carp and ran out a convincing winner with 31.42kg. In second place was yours truly, Ian Brown. I was drawn on the end peg 9 and really thought I was in for a good day. After the first fishless 3 hours I was beginning to change my mind but 12 fish in as many casts on the method with wafters gave me some hope and I eventually had 15 carp for 21.54kg. In third place was Terry Stroud who also used the method feeder from peg 5 and weighed 10.98kg which included his first barbel from the venue.

Hole 9 - Steve King Hole 14 - Julie King Hole 18 - Steve King The 2s ‘Pot’ was shared by Steve King and Andy Quinn and the Free Game

Rods N reels The following day with a slight change of personnel we still had nine anglers and we fished the same pegs. I was drawn on the winning peg from the previous day, peg 7. It was obvious from looking at the activity in the lake that a lot of fish were shoaled up in this are all be it at a much greater range than we could accurately cast. I once again fished the method feeder at about 40m and caught 22 carp and two barbel and ran out an easy winner with 30.68kg. In joint second place with 15.88kg were Barry Smith from peg 2 on the cold side and Nick Bastock on peg

Draw was won by Carl Rodel. Finally our next game is the last eclectic of the year at Altorreal on 29th November. Steve Harrington (Membership and Handicap Secretary)

8. Barry fished the cage feeder with maggots and Nick mixed it up with the method feeder and the slow sinking feeder. Accommodation was once again at the Hotel Arcos, which is clean and the food of a very typical Spanish inland hotel, myself and ex butcher Graham Patterson once again played the well know game, guess the steak as it is always an unidentifiable cut of meat, this time it was apparently Brisket in its toughest form. Both clubs are taking names for next years membership so if you fancy taking part then just let me know. Ian Brown
