IPSOS survey methodology

This report was informed by an IPSOS survey, one of the largest market research companies in the world, commissioned by Cosentino. This survey was conducted online within the United States from June 12-22, 2023, among 700 U.S. adults ages 18 and older including 200 independent design and architect professionals and 500 homeowners who have made home renovations in the past 5 years and/ or intend to do so in the next year, and typically purchase mid-high tier products. The sampling precision of IPSOS research is measured using Margin of Error assuming unknown population and a proportion percentage of .5. The sample data is accurate to within +/- 4.4 percentage points for homeowners and +/- 6.9 percentage points for design and architect professionals.

The Rise of Resimmercial: Commercial and Residential Design Come Together. Hotel design trends have started to make their way into homes, as both homeowners and designers increasingly incorporate hospitality-inspired design elements to elevate their own spaces. At the same time, the lines between home, work, and play are blurring, and this is having a major impact on commercial and hotel design. This convergence of commercial and residential has led to the rise of resimmercial design, pushing the traditional boundaries and resulting in a whole new category.

Laura Kirar Laura Kirar Design

“ As residential design elements integrate into commercial spaces, there’s been a trend towards more inviting and comfortable hospitality environments. For example, the use of warm and cozy textiles open and flexible layouts that encourage interaction and relaxation; and nature-inspired elements like natural materials, which contribute to a soothing and rejuvenating ambiance.”

What are your top tips for bringing hospitality-inspired design elements into residential spaces?

“Grand, luxurious floral arrangements are a hallmark of hotel lobbies. Placing a floral arrangement on a console table or in an elegant vase in your entryway can set the tone for your entire home.”

Sarah Eilers

Lucas/Eilers Design Associates

“Incorporate comfortable furniture, cozy textiles, and carefully curated lighting to evoke a sense of comfort and indulgence.”

Laura Kirar

“Sumptuous beds and luxurious baths should be emulated at home. And every room can use a bar cart!”

Barry Dixon Barry Dixon Inc.

“Fragrance is something that I think people can easily integrate and is often over sighted in their home. I recommend a full home air diffuser.”
