For the second year in a row, we had the highest turnout for our District 2 Budget Town Hall in the City. In a District like ours that historically sees low engagement, this is a beautiful and welcome change. We also had the third highest participation in the City’s annual budget survey. Using the results of the survey, we’ll be allocating parts of this year’s budget to most accurately reflect the goals of those throughout the City.
DISTRICT NEWSLETTER
Issue
Jalen McKee-Rodriguez
We are just a few weeks away from finalizing the City’s budget and you can expect updates in the next newsletter. In this issue, you will find information about what was presented in the trial budget, some of the requests our Council office has made, and you’ll have an opportunity to participate in our first policy and goal setting survey. The feedback and experiences you share directly inform our requests of City departments & staff and often impact change in the trajectory of our City’s policies and procedures. You can complete the survey directly on the newsletter and bring it to my field office to scan or you can complete the survey online using the QR code or website.
This year has had its share of surprises, lessons learned, and memories made. D2’s Homeless Outreach Coordinator
We are excited to introduce you to our Homeless Outreach Coordinator, Alicia Mitchell! The Department of Human Services Street Outreach Teams are a mobile presence throughout San Antonio. Successful outreach efforts are contingent on being person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive to the needs of our community. Alicia regularly engages with and offers services to our houseless community to help address their specific needs. If you’ve called in an encampment, an individual, or a group in need of support, Alicia has likely been on the ground connecting with them to fill that need. We are thrilled to work with her. You may see her at the Claude Black Community Center, so please say hi and
encouragement!
