Barbadian artist Adam Patterson's solo exhibition 'Things You Threw In The Gully'! in Rotterdam.

And the workshop ‘Maypole Braiding’ runs in relation to “Things You Threw in the Gully,” at Roodkapje Rotterdam. "How can maypole braiding enable us to think about the joys and pains of living together, the entanglements in which we find ourselves or the task of staying with the trouble? Weaving through readings of Donna Haraway, Audre Lorde and Rihanna, grab a ribbon and dance your way to surprising constellations, patterns and worlds. The maypole may offer a fruitful means of rethinking how we live and work together while emphasising the potentials of derangement, messiness and entanglement. The play of braiding and unbraiding, making and unmaking, hopes to encourage a greater openness and vulnerability to working through tricky, slippery and troublesome things.” • Adam Patterson • Adam Patterson is an artist and writer, currently one of the arists in residence of the Hamburger Community of Art. Adam investigates the processes of how stories, images and conditions of being gazed at affect the emergence of one’s selfhood, self-determinacy and right to opacity. He developed a practice of telling new stories or rethinking old stories in new recuperative ways, working across a variety of media including mask-making and masquerade, video, critical writing, poetry and performance. • Hamburger Community of Art • The Hamburger Community of Art (HCA) is a yearlong development program for emerging artists based on the principles of experimentation, collaboration and developing new artistic practices. What can artists learn from each other? How can (young) artists stimulate their development collectively? What can society learn from artists and vice versa?
