Welcome to the 4th Annual Bull Sale at TJB Gelbvieh. Another phenomenal year has come and gone and we are thrilled to be involved in such a wonderful business. Cattle may not be as high as last year, but I think as most do that we are still in the midst of a great run with more profitable years ahead. I have been involved in the Gelbvieh breed now for over 25 years. Fads come and go and breeds ebb and flow in popularity. I resisted the temptation to “jump” into the most popular breeds of the time as they gained popularity and as their bull prices exceeded what we could receive. I have never chosen to test the waters in other venues for one reason…after 25 years of selection our cattle work for us and they do what they are supposed to do. Don’t be fooled by our elaborate catalog and our pictures of so many females (My daughter refuses to produce a “blah” catalog!).TJB Gelbvieh runs their cattle in a no nonsense, no excuse manner. Our cows calve easily, they breed back on schedule, and they wean a big calf that is structurally sound. I believe mature cows should do all this on grass and forage. Our mature cows are only supplemented when it is time to come to the barn to synchronize or breed. We feed our heifers 5-8 pounds of a commodity blend feed from weaning until they are checked pregnant. They are then run on grass until calving. We then supplement our two year olds until they are bred. We are able to keep our twos calving in the early part of our season. From that day forward, they do it on grass. We strive to maintain pastures in a fashion to supply the best quality and quantity of forage available. We are proud of the type and kind of our females that allow this to work for us. We know they will work for you our customers as well.

As always I give a special thank you to my family. Those of you familiar with me and my lifestyle realize how much time I am on the road with the embryo transfer business. I could not do what we do without their love and support and understanding why I miss so many events in their lives. I am blessed to have a wonderfully supportive wife that can do anything needed as well as two beautiful daughters that have grown into beautiful young women. Although my other family is in Kentucky, they have been and continue to be supportive of their youngest son and baby brother. Dr. Jason Anton has joined me in the ET business but he has become very interested and involved in our cattle business. He has a great desire to learn this part of the business as well as the ET business. Last but certainly not least, I owe a tremendous debt to the hard work and the dedication of Mitch McLaughlin. He continues to get everything done here in my absence and he does so with a wonderful attitude. He and his family, Amy & Bailey, have become part of our family. Catalog Dedication Mr. Kendall Traxler

It is not my intention to have a dedication in each sale catalog. However, I had the opportunity last year to get to know Kendall Traxler from Utica, MS in his search for Gelbvieh bulls. He made a few trips and many phone calls to visit about bulls prior to the sale and he quickly formed a special bond with our family. This man loved his cattle and although not large in numbers he was a man that appreciated quality cattle and took tremendous pride in producing an exceptional product. He studied our cattle and our offering and I accused him of knowing more about them than I did. I was certainly looking forward to many more sales with Kendall’s participation (and his mother’s banana pudding) but unfortunately God chose to take him home at a very early age. I miss his frequent phone calls and his kind words but I am a better man for the short time I was blessed to know this special person. You will never be forgotten.

Anissa Family

This cow family is one of our most beloved and appreciated cow families at TJB Gelbvieh. 337M is our beginning to this group and is a daughter of 19F (3/4 sister to Freedom). We sold 337M as a bred heifer to Beartooth Ranch and later to our good friend Skyler Martin in our dispersal in 2006. However, she has never left our possession!! I have always thought enough of her to enter into an embryo venture with both new owners. A great decision I must say! Her mating to Lookout was phenomenal and these two daughters have become dominant in our Balancer® program. You would have to love the moderation in all these females but they also possess great thickness and beautiful udders. Consider these three lots to become breed changers for you. I must say, however, they have been saddled with the epd parameters of Leachman New Day. Therefore, they will not have impressive growth numbers but buy with confidence that these bulls will perform and produce pounds. I am very proud to lead the sale offering with these individuals. Upon evaluation I think you will be impressed with the extreme thickness and desirable muscle expression. One of our stoutest bulls to date, he maintains that thickness in a smooth pattern and carries it on perfect structure.
