Vision Prayer 1st Reading

Heavenly Father, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, we the faithful of Corpus Christi Parish, ask that You bless and sanctify us as we work together to implement our Vision. We ask that You guide us as we strive to love bravely, to serve radically and to meet all whom we encounter with humility and compassion. Help us to unite joyfully and lovingly as followers of your Son, Jesus, to take His message with us wherever we go. We know that by Your grace, we can make this Vision a reality. We ask this in the name of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care On November 15 and 16, 2021 the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops will launch Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care. The launch marks the culmination of a fouryear process whereby the CCCB partnered with experts from Pallium Canada, Dominican University College, the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute, Catholic Health Alliance of Canada, and the Congregation of the Sisters Saint Joseph in Canada. This partnership ensured the development of a highlevel resource that will benefit Catholic parishioners eager to grow in their understanding of palliative care and Church teaching on end-of-life questions. More information is available online on YouTube: or via a Zoom presentation For more information, please contact Mrs. Michelle Dabrowski at m.dabrowski@cccb.ca or Mrs. Marg SheaLawrence at m.shea-lawrence@cccb.ca.

In November, as we pray for the faithful departed, we seek light and hope in our own journey of life and death, as well as the journey of those whom we cherish. In her book "Rediscovering the Art of Dying: How Jesus' Experience and Our Stories Reveal a New Vision of Compassionate Care," Sr. Nuala Kenny explores how our experiences of illness and dying - as individuals, family, friends, and caregivers - can be transformed as we walk with Jesus through the Passion and become witnesses of faith and trust to others. $18.95

Please contact Mary Crooks at 902-825-6495 for more information.

To celebrate prayerfully the Advent-Christmas-Epiphany season of Light, we are offering five weekly sessions on-line designed to help participants develop one’s relationship with Christ Jesus by praying with the Sunday scriptures of Advent.

Fr. Earl Smith SJ and Fr. Charlie Pottie, SJ., both seasoned Jesuits and Ignatian spiritual guides, will lead the sessions and help participants to encounter Jesus through prayer forms such as reading of scriptures (lectio divina), reflection, Ignatian imaginative contemplative prayer and sharing. Each session will include a short instruction on prayer, reading and pondering scripture or guided imaginative prayer, and spiritual conversations. It will begin with a focus on Christ the King on Thursday, Nov 18 at 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm - Atlantic Time, 7:30 pm to 8:45 NL time and will continue the following 4 Thursdays of Advent. There is no charge. For more information and to register contact experiencingprayer@gmail.com

A note from your Corpus Christi Vincentians (Wolfville/Canning Conference):

Pope Francis established the World Day of the Poor following the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy in November 2016. In our prayers as members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, we ask the Lord to ‘make us responsive to the Christian calling to seek and find the forgotten, the suffering, or the deprived’. On November 14, we encourage all

parishioners to meditate on Pope Francis’ 2021 message, in which he concludes:

“It is my hope that the celebration of the World

Prayer for World Day of the Poor God of Abraham, Everywhere we go we see Lazarus. But we also see so many doors, doors that separate us from Lazarus. Lord, teach us to open those doors To Lazarus, to the poor, to help them find a just share of your bounty. This World Day of the Poor, help us all turn to those outside our door, to bless, heal and comfort them. Help us to build a world together, where the poor are strangers to none, and the very chains of poverty are broken. Amen. Harvest House operates an overnight shelter in the Windsor area. It has been running at full capacity and beyond. There is a real need for volunteers, particularly people available for overnight supervision. To volunteer, please contact Donna Eldridge at 902-790-4560.

Day of the Poor, now in its fifth year, will grow in our local Churches and inspire a movement of evangelization that meets the poor personally wherever they may be. We cannot wait for the poor to knock on our door; we need urgently to reach them in their homes, in hospitals and nursing homes, on the streets and in the dark corners where they sometimes hide, in shelters and reception centres. It is important to understand how they feel, what they are experiencing and what their hearts desire.”

Congratulations to Maureen Maclean

Cooperative.

In case you missed it, our very own Maureen Maclean (Corpus Christi St. Alphonsus, Bridgetown) was the recipient of the 18th Annual Valley Arts Award, which has been given since 2004 by the Deep Roots Music

Maureen hails from Middleton and has been Bridgetown’s long time Church Organist and Manager of all things music. She was raised in Liverpool, where she received her early music training. Following high school, she continued her musical studies at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. The award recognizes someone who has worked for the development and/or promotion of Valley artists, arts events, or culture; and has made a significant long-term contribution to the Arts in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. “Maureen’s quiet grace and dedication always paved the way for others to take the spotlight and shine,” said Erin Hennessy, a Wolfville resident and former Middleton Choral Society (MCS) member. “Her passion for the arts has had a far-reaching ripple effect that spans multiple generations of performers, choristers, and music lovers.”

After two years teaching in Shelburne, Maureen became the Grade Primary to 6 music teacher at Middleton Elementary School in 1969. She spent 25 years there. As a member of Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers Association, Maureen has taught harmony, history, organ, piano, choir, analysis, music rudiments and accompaniment. She continues to teach two students privately. Article originally published by Saltwire Network in September 2021.
