Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez recently announced the September Above the Line employees. Three honorees were surprised at their work locations with the announcement they had been selected. Nominations are always open for Above the Line employee recognitions. Nominate an outstanding employee today! Administrator - Debbie Fennema, Assistant Principal, Mary Carroll High School “Mrs. Fennema has taken on a great deal of responsibility during the COVID pandemic. In her first year as an AP, she ran all aspects of graduation preparation during the shutdown. Upon our return to campus, Mrs. Fennema has worked tirelessly to ensure that staff are able to conduct their normal job duties while following CDC and district guidelines. Her work and effort would be impressive for any administrator, but this level of dedication and prowess from a new administrator is truly inspirational.” Auxiliary - Kristina Bustos, Sr. Administrative Assistant to Principal, Rose Shaw Elementary School “Mrs. Bustos is always so positive and pleasant each day. She works with our community, parents, staff, and students extremely well, even on the busiest of days. She goes over and beyond her job duties to ensure each person has the best customer service anyone can have. She always remains calm and respects everyone no matter what comes her way. She is very organized and ensures all the daily practices on our campus run smoothly. She is greatly valued and respected for her superb work ethic by everyone in our campus and in the district.” Educator - Virgina Becker, 1st grade Teacher Faye Webb Elementary School “When school shut down during the pandemic, Virginia could see that Canvas would be the format that teachers would need to use to provide quality asynchronous instruction. She got to work building modules and helping other teachers utilize Canvas not just at their own campus and grade level, but across the district. She dedicated many hours of her own time helping other teachers. She saw a need, and instead of waiting for someone to solve it, she became part of the solution.”
CCEF Grants for World-Class Schools application 2020-2021

The Corpus Christi Education Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2020 – 2021 Grants for World-Class Schools. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s application was simplified, additional eligible items were added, and funding opportunities are up to $500. This is an opportunity for CCISD teachers and administrators to apply for mini grants to fund innovative programs, projects that support higher levels of student learning, etc. Please see below for information on how to apply this year: 1. Grants for World-Class Schools application may also be obtained at https://bit.ly/3jzBjYK. 2. To avoid disqualification, please read the entire application. 3. Applications must be typed and have all required signatures. Electronic signatures are not allowed.
The deadline to submit applications is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 2.

Whataburger celebrated teachers who have gone above and beyond for their students. Chelsie Caillier, Roy Miller High School math teacher, was selected to be honored for World Teachers’ Day. Ms. Caillier received a surprise visit from Whataburger representatives who presented her with a $200 Visa gift card, $250 Whataburger gift card, and Whataburger gift items. Thank you for your dedication to our Miller students. We are #CCISDproud of Ms. Caillier!
Employee Giving Campaign CCISD has begun its annual Employee Giving Campaign, benefiting the Corpus Christi Education Foundation.
The foundation exists solely to benefit CCISD. Funds raised support educational grant programs, scholarships for students and recognition for teaching excellence. Support CCEF through a payroll deduction or a one-time gift option. To participate, please print, complete and sign the one-page Employee Giving Donation Form no later than Wednesday, November 4. CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Q: On the November ballot, why does the Bond 2020 description say it is a property tax increase? A: A recent change to the Texas Education Code requires the sentence, “This is a property tax increase” to be included in all school bond ballot items. Bond measures are funded when voters authorize districts to levy a tax. The funding for Bond 2020 will come from current tax rates applied to property values. Property taxes increase when home values increase. CCISD’s Bond 2020 will not increase the district’s tax rate.
Biometrics screening reminder In order to continue to receive the monthly discount of $60 per month for the health plan year of 2021, employees and spouses covered by the district’s health insurance plan will need to complete and submit the biometrics screening form by October 31, 2020. The form can be found in the Forms folder at https://www.ccisd.us/ HumanResources/EmployeeBenefits. Employees can also call RediMD at 1-866-989-2873 to complete this task.
