Boundary Bay Cemetery - Development Options
Additional burial inventory is proposed by converting some pathways and driveways in phases.
Key features of the development proposal includes:
• Additional tree planting to enhance parkland landscape character;
• Establish beautiful cremation gardens;
• Create a cremation garden that is integrated into the natural woodlands;
• Utilize existing roads for tree planting and for additional burial space;
• Establish linear cremation.
North Delta Cemetery - Development Options
North Delta Cemetery has the greatest opportunity for traditional in-ground burial. The southern half of the site offers significant potential to expand interment options offered by the City.
Key features of the development proposals include:
•Enhance perimeter planting with new trees and shrubs to screen neighbours;
•Incorporate the larger second growth trees into the cemetery design;
•Establish a green burial offering that’s distinct in character and can be expanded depending on community uptake and demand;
•Respect the cultural heritage of the historic cemetery.

What is Green Burial
“Green Burial” or “Natural Burial” is an alternative to traditional burial practices and is seen as more environmentally friendly than traditional burial.
The five principles of Green Burial:
1. No embalming;
2. No outer burial container;
3. A biodegradable casket or shroud;
4. Minimal memorialization, and
5. Ecological restoration/ conservation.
