BOOK OF THE YEAR 2009-2010 1 ESO A
Pius Font I Quer is a fantastic school. The first thing you can see is a big playground where the students spend their free time during break time.
In the school there are three buildings with floors. On the first floor there is concierge, the dining room, the library, the toilets for girls and boys and some classrooms, and on the second and the third floor there are a lot of classrooms.
All the classrooms have the same structure. First of all there are some green chairs and tables for students. All the classrooms also have windows and this allows a lot of light in the classrooms. In our school, we can find everything we need: a gym, a library, a computer room, etc.
We have got 13 subjects in 1st ESO. Dolors is our tutorial teacher. We do tutorial 2 times a week. Dolors also teaches us Catalan. We learn the language that we usually use. We do PE in the gym 2 times a week. Manolo is our PE teacher. In Spanish we work on another language that we can use outside Catalonia.
In Natural Science we study the characteristics of the Earth and nature with JosÊ Antonio. Josep is our geography teacher and with him we study human history. In English, we study another language too. It’s good for children. We learn English with Rosa and David.
Juli is our maths teacher. We do maths 3 times a week. Its objective is to do different problems using the numbers.
In Music we work on auditions and its composers. In Technology we study the structures of the buildings.
In my classroom there are twenty nine students. 15 of them are girls and 14 are boys. We all do the same course (1st of ESO) but not all of us are the same age. In my class 4 students are 11 years old, 24 are 12 and 1 is 13. Most of my classmates come from Manresa, but some come from different parts or Catalonia (27) or Spain (0). Finally, 2 come from different countries.
I think my school is very cool !!!
FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL
WHERE IS MY SCHOOL? • This is the high school where I go. It’s in Manresa, in “La Parada”, next to La Salle school. • Its name is IES Pius Font I Quer.
WHAT IS THE SCHOOL LIKE? • It has a main building with the classrooms, gym, laboratories, library, bar, etc. • It has got a very big playground, basket and football field. • The classrooms are good, these photos are of the computer rooms, gym and library.
SUBJECTS • I do twelve subjects. • My favourite subjects are History and Geography, English and Languages. The other subjects I like but not much.
• Technology was a new subject for me and I was a little nervous for this.
MY CLASSMATES • In my classroom there are 29 students. Fifteen of them are girls and fourteen are boys. • My classmates came from different schools, so I didn’t know anybody • The majority live in Manresa (22 students), but some of them live in other villages, such as Sant Salvador de Guardiola (6) and Valls de Torroella (1)
THE FIRST DAY • I was very nervous and my classmates too. • Dolors, the tutor, told us how everything worked. • I was very happy when she said that Wednesday and Friday, there will not be class in the afternoon. • When the day was finished I felt that I enjoyed going to school.

. I go to I.E.S Pius Font I Quer. I start school at eight o’clock and I finish at half past twelve, half past one or half past five, it depends. There are many differents subjects, for example English, Technology, Science, P.E… • My favourite subjects are Maths and Science, because I like the numbers and animals and plants. In Maths we must to know adding, deducing, multiplying and dividing. Then we have Spanish an English. They’re very important for the future. The most difficult subject for me is Music, because I don’t like the history of music. I also like science because we sometimes watch documentaries. All the teachers give a lot of homework and exams. We don’t do Art but I don’t like it, so it is better. I like I.T because I like all the sport but my favourite sport is football. • I like all the subjects except Music. The best time in the I.E.S Pius Font I Quer is breaktime.

I usually wear jeans and shirts or T-shirts every day. But not all people do the same.
Some people wear casual or formal clothes, but the majority of students wear trendy and cool clothes.
Girls often wear things like a tartan shirt with shorts and trainers, or maybe a colourful blouse with trousers or jeans. A few girls sometimes wear skirts with tights and a blouse or a jumper.
Boys often wear a simple T-shirt or a sweater with jeans or also a tracksuit. The minority of the boys wear baggie clothes and sometimes a cap.
The oldest pupils wear piercings or tattoos and the boys also wear an earring. The majority of the girls wear bracelets and necklaces and earrings too, of course!
In my school most students have great hairstyles and all are different and fashionable.

Macaco is a famous singer. He's from Spain.
JUSTIN BIEBER Justin is only sixteen, but he' s a very famous singer because he sings very well. He's from Canada. His best song is Baby.
JASON MRAZ Jason Mraz is one of our favourite singers too. He's American. He's thirty-two. His best songs are Lucky and I'm yours.
DAVID GUETTA David Guetta is our favourite DJ. He's from France and he's forty-two. His best songs are Sexy bitch and Memories.

I listen to music with my MP5.

What can devices do?
You can use the mobile phone to listen to music, take photos, call and send text messages...
With an MP5 you can listen to music, watch videos, watch TV because it has got TDT. You can also read books. It’s fantastic, but very expensive.
With these machines you don’t only listen to music, you can do other things.
How often do we listen to music?
I always listen to music in the evenings, between one or two hours. At the weekend I listen to music too.
I don’t listen to music every day.
I only listen to music in the weekend and I hardly ever listen to music from Monday to Friday.
I listen to music in my freetime. Loads of people listen to music every week.
I listen to music in summer, because I have not got any time during the course. I have a lot of activities to do.
I listen to music on Tuesdays and Fridays, because they are the days that I’m free. But if I have an exam, I don’t listen to music, of course.

Where people listen to music? People listen to music in many places: I listen to music at my house, normally in my bedroom. I sometimes listen to music in my car, with the radio. I listen to music in my computer room. If I listen to music, I do it when I’m going to Pius Font I Quer, along the streets.

My favourite song is Lucky, but I like I’m yours, too. My favourite song is Zapatillas. My favourite songs are Telephone and Bad romance, but I like seventeen songs more or less , all of different singers, of course. I haven’t got any favourite song. I don’t like music and I don’t spend my time listening to music.
Nowadays, what are the best singer? People like a lot of different music styles, like: My favourite singer is 50 cent. I like his music very much. Lady GaGa is my favourite singer. This photo shows Avril Lavingue. She is my favourite singer. I like Jason Mraz. Their music relaxes because they’re very paused. My favourite singer is Taylor Swift.
How people listen to music? Some people listen to music with headphones, but there are people that listen to music with a speakers or in a concert. Before, people listened to music on a tape, but there are not people in the Pius Font i Quer that use it.
MP3 I usually listen to music on my mp3. I listen to music at the weekend. I listen to rock, pop, techno… I usually listen to music in the
evening.
Ipod or MP4 I usually listen to music on my Ipod with my father. We listen to rock, jazz, classical music… I usually listen to music on on Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Ipod is fantastic!!!
Computer I usually listen to music on my computer. I listen to music everyday. I always listen to music in the afternoon. My computer is portable.
Jukeboxes I listen to music with my father’s jukebox. It is very old but, but the sound is very good. I listen to classical music and jazz. It’s really fun!!!
Mobile phone I listen to music on my mobile phone. I download songs on my computer. I have got many songs on my mobile phone. My mobile is a Nokia Xpress Music.
Radio I listen to music on my radio. I listen to 40 principales, Flaix FM, Flaixback… I usually listen to music in the morning and in the
evening.
Car I listen to music on my car radio. I usually listen to Flaix FM. I can listen to the radio and listen to a single disk. It’s fantastic!!!

I usually listen to music with mobile phone, but sometimes I listen to music with a computer. I’m relaxed when I listen to music. I listen to music in my car from “los 40 principales” in the morning and in the afternoon. You can use it to listen to music, take photos, call and send text messages to your friends. I like my mobile phone very much ! It’s fashionable. It’s useful and small. I can put it in my pocket or in a small handbag.

SCHOOL TRIPS
THE ZOO Dear Adrià, On 8th of April we went to the zoo to see all the animals that there are there. At eight o’clock we took a bus and at half past nine we arrived. At quarter to ten we started to see the animals. The first one was a little kangaroo. Then we saw Llamas. We saw a lot of animals like lizards, insects, snakes, dolphins, seals and so on, but my favourite animals were the lions, tigers, panthers, jaguars… They’re amazing, but I think that they are always locked there, and they can’t run, live in the nature. There was a crazy elephant. It always moved the head, like us when we’re listening to music!!! At two o’clock more or less we went to the shop to buy something, but I didn’t buy anything,
because everything was very expensive. We took a lot of photographs. I’ll show you when you come to visit me. At the end, we went to take a bus and we arrived in Manresa at half past five. It was a wonderful day. See you soon, Climent
SKIING IN GUILS Dear aunt Elena and uncle Jose, We had a great time skiing on Tuesday 9th February 2010, when we went to Guils. I went with my classmates and my teachers on a school trip. At eight o'clock we left Manresa by bus. We traveled for one hour and a half. When we arrived, we we went to a mountain refuge to leave the bags and to take the skis. After that, we started to ski. Its was very funny! At the end, we played with snow and drank hot chocolate. It was delicious!
Then we returned to Manresa by bus. I would like to repeat it! See you soon, Zohra.
HALLOWEEN At our school there are a lot of events, at this moment we have celebrated the Halloween, which was on 1st November but at the school we celebrated it on 31st October. I liked this celebration because we can choose the activity we can do, I tried football and we reached the semi final. Besides football, there were more activities for example basketball, ping-pong, Nintendo DS, the disco etc‌ I suppose that the following events that we will do will be as funny as Halloween.
I think that the events will be Christmas, Easter, Carnival, etc. I’m waiting for the Carnival because it is what I like most.
School trips and activities
