Cornish students are curious about all aspects of the arts. In the Foundations year, you will study alongside designers and filmmakers as well as visual artists like yourself. Foundations will give you the opportunity to strengthen your own unique vision while simultaneously exploring diverse areas.

Cornish’s faculty—mostly working artists themselves—empower your artistic choices and help you shape the practice that you want. Either specialize in a chosen medium, such as painting, or embrace a crossdisciplinary approach. The program enables and supports both approaches to creation throughout your four years at Cornish.

Earn a BFA in Art or, through Cornish’s partnership with Vermont College of the Arts, graduate in five years with a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT).

Here you will find the space to create and the materials you want—from book arts lab to 3D fabrication. Whether analog or digital, you will find tools and inspiration that you haven’t had a chance to explore yet. Live on campus and you will even have an art studio with a view from the 20th floor of our residence hall. From individual and shared studio spaces to special labs, Cornish offers artists what they need to explore their craft.

Your visit with us will allow you to meet one-onone with a professional who will be able to answer your questions about Cornish and offer useful insights about the portfolio review process. The more we are able to learn about you and your artistic vision and ambition, the better we are able to provide you with the information you need to make the right educational choice for your future.

SHOWCASE YOUR WORK Cornish maintains multiple galleries for the exhibition of student work. Throughout your four years here, you will have an opportunity to showcase your work while pursuing your degree. Learn how to make your work visible to the greater public, including how to build a winning public art proposal or apply for funding by working directly with professional arts organizations.
