Yann Macherez / couverture Cover Out Of Africa - On the road to kolwezi Photographe freelance, Yann a grandi à l’Ile de la Réunion et vit aujourd’hui en Afrique du Sud. Amoureux du voyage et du continent Africain, publier est pour lui une manière de partager son travail, ses expériences, ses rencontres. Il signe des sujets pour National Geographic, entre autres, et Hamaji Magazine. Dernièrement, il a lancé son projet « Today-Project », en partenariat avec l’UNESCO. Un projet global sur lequel il travaille depuis plusieurs années et qu’il souhaite développer avec plusieurs partenaires, à travers le globe. Freelance photographer, Yann grew up in Reunion Island and now stays in South Africa. Travel enthusiast, Yann fell in love with the African continent and shares through his publications his work, experiences and encounters. He writes travel stories and contributes to National Geographic, among others, and Hamaji Magazine. Yann’s new project “Today-Project”, in partnership with UNESCO is a global project on which he has worked for several years. His wishe is to develop this project with several partners, through the sphere.

Assistant graphic designer, Junior Mugembe lives and works in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. He launched his career by assisting the publisher of the Group Corneille and Sima Editions. C’est après de longues heures de route, venant de Lubumbashi, que je traverse enfin la rivière Lualaba, source du mythique fleuve Congo et porte d’entrée de la ville de Kolwezi. A rare effervescence that immediately captivated me: I will spend most of my free time there wandering around and meeting the locals.
Ce dimanche, dans le quartier 5 ans, c’était jour de mariage. Je remontais cette petite avenue, croisant tout un cortège de personnes élégamment habillées. Les musiciens fermaient la marche, instrument à la main, sourire aux lèvres. — This Sunday, in the 5-yearold district, was wedding day. I went up this small avenue, passing a whole parade of elegantly dressed people. The musicians closed the march, instrument in hand, smile on their faces. In Guinea, the treasure islands Off Conakry, the capital of Guinea, some thirty minutes from the Guinean capital, the islands of Loos are a delight for expatriates and tourists visiting Guinea. With their palm trees and white sand, these islands are famous for their heavenly setting. A reportage about the Loos archipelago by photograph Colin Delfosse for Hamaji Magazine. The Loos Islands archipelago, composed of three main islands (Tamara, Kassa and Room), is said to have inspired Scottish writer Stevenson for his novel «Treasure Island». Here, the only sound you’ll hear is that of the waves kissing the islands shores. A tranquillity that contrasts with the buzzing energy of the Guinean capital, which can be perceived in the distance. The only cloud on the horizon is the plastic waste that flows back from Conakry to the beaches.

3 days in Dakar with GQ Style With the holiday season approaching, we have decided to take you on a 4-page trip to Dakar in this issue. The famous fashion magazine, GQ, pays tribute to Senegal’s beautiful people for this season’s fashion shoot. «Dakar is a very cool and relaxed place,» says Mobolaji Dawodu, GQ Style’s fashion director. «If there’s one thing that stands out from the crowd, it’s the clothes. The colours and prints are modern and dynamic». Dawodu and French photographer Fanny LatourLambert landed in Senegal on the last day of Ramadan with several suitcases of clothes and photo equipment. The plan was to meet and photograph a few dozen Dakar residents who exude freshness and natural class, whether they wear a traditionally patterned boubou or a floral Off-White costume. «There are many beautiful and elegant people in Dakar,» notes Dawodu. In this very busy fashion season, the pieces that have left

the deepest impression on Dawodu are the prints and patterns that are as festive as the clothes found on the streets of Dakar. Thus, each piece of haute couture brought to Senegal by Dawodu was accompanied by the most daring design pieces of the season. The main trend is the juxtaposition of local clothing and designer fashions. This creativity proves that for some, style is simply inherent. The capital of Senegal is the westernmost city on the African continent, a hook-shaped peninsula that extends into the Atlantic Ocean, with vast beaches and excellent waves all year round. It is the epicentre of Senegal’s highly connected economy and a hub for the new generation of young Senegalese artists, models and students. As Ramadan came to an end and the national football team was about to make a name for itself at the World Cup, the main squares of Dakar were filled with hundreds of partygoers. Dawodu made a casting call for models but ended up finding most of the models on the street, in bars and at a dance party that had to be interrupted by the police. The next day, as the city slowly came alive again, the models gathered and dressed by GQ magazine, personified the soul and spirit of Senegal.

Elle est née à Lubumbashi et a grandi à Kinshasa où elle a pratiquement passé la moitié de sa vie. Elle fera ses études universitaires en Afrique du Sud, à Cape Town, en design d’intérieur pendant 2 ans. Une fois diplômée, elle emménage dans la grande ville de Johannesburg, l’une des capitales les plus vertes du monde, où elle travaille d’abord pour une entreprise de design d’intérieur fondée par deux femmes exceptionnelles qui partageront avec elle leur formidable expérience. Après plusieurs années passées à leurs côtés, elle monte sa propre entreprise : Bk.Designstudio. Brenda Kabeya est architecte d’intérieur, elle travaille actuellement en freelance et innove au quotidien, en Afrique du Sud, au Mozambique et en République Démographique du Congo.
