LETTER FROM THE President

Spirit of Growth, our theme for this report, certainly reflects what is happening here at Cor Jesu. And because of this, the one word that comes to mind when I think of the past year is GRATITUDE. I am so grateful to all of you for all the gifts that you have shared with us this past year. These gifts have come in many different ways: sending your daughter to Cor Jesu, living out the legacy of a CJ alumna, sharing your time with us to continually improve and grow, sharing your financial gifts so that more students can have Cor Jesu as a place to call home. There are so many other gifts that you have shared that have blessed our students and our school abundantly. I am continually grateful to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for YOU.

This past year has been filled with so many blessings. As you arrive on campus, the first thing you now see is our new signage, showing off our school to everyone! Don’t miss the new statue of the Sacred Heart welcoming you to this school, reflected in the name Cor Jesu (Heart of Jesus.) You’ll see the main drive has been repaired and repaved. As you exit, look to the right and you’ll see the outside of our beautiful chapel. Our dedication of the renovated and expanded chapel will take place in just one month’s time, but even before then you can see the progress of the renovation. One beautiful addition will be the visibility of the chapel on campus. As you walk down the firstfloor hallway, the glass doors to the chapel allow you to see in, showing

Jesus as the center of our school.

Last May, we graduated 150 seniors, and this fall we welcomed 161 new freshmen. This year, we have two new scholarships offered to our freshmen. We introduced for the first time Legacy Scholarships, a $1,000 scholarship to daughters of alumnae. There are 38 legacy students in the class of 2028, our largest ever. We also introduced MeritBased Scholarships for the first time. This fall, we welcomed 52 students who were recipients of Merit-Based Scholarships. And I am happy to tell you that over 50% of our students receive tuition assistance, thanks to many of those listed in this Annual Report.

The students bring such joy to our school, and we can feel the energy reverberating in the halls. Everything that we do here is for the total education of these young women: mind, body, and spirit. Whether they are focusing on academics, winning a state soccer championship, or taking time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, our students remain empowered intellectually, spiritually and morally. As you know, the women that graduate from Cor Jesu make such a difference in our world.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting Cor Jesu! We are so GRATEFUL and remember you in our prayers.

Blessings,

LETTER FROM THE Chair

Dear Cor Jesu Community,
What a year it’s been! Reflecting on my first year as Chairperson of the Advisory Board, I am filled with joy at all that Cor Jesu has accomplished.

The 2024 auction was a recordbreaking success, raising over $595,000, with a significant portion going directly to tuition assistance. It was heartwarming to see young alumnae celebrating their sisterhood and supporting Cor Jesu's future alongside us more seasoned alums.

The Class of 2028 was the largest accepted class in Cor Jesu's history. The efforts of our Admissions team, Deans Meghan and Kathleen, and the positive energy from Sr. Susan Marie have been inspiring. The addition of Merit-Based and Legacy Scholarships has also reinforced Cor Jesu's status as the premier academic program for young women in St. Louis.

We've made significant progress on our strategic and campus master plans, including the exciting chapel renovation and new entry signage.

As a proud member of the 1984-85

State Champion Soccer Team, I was thrilled to celebrate our recent semifinal victory at St. Louis Soccer Park with the entire Cor Jesu community, leading to the State Championship for the 2023-2024 season. Go Chargers! From a board perspective, we’ve had a productive year, and our longestserving members are eager to continue contributing. The positive energy and excitement about Cor Jesu's future are palpable.

I am blessed to be part of this community and grateful for the opportunity to serve. It is an honor to be a piece of the puzzle that makes Cor Jesu whole.

Sincerely,

Education

Farewell, Katie Thiemann

Katie Thiemann’s journey to becoming the Director of Advancement at Cor Jesu Academy began with her deep-rooted connection to the school. A proud alumna of the Class of 1981, Katie had always been involved with the institution, serving on the Cor Jesu Advisory Board and volunteering with alumnae fundraising. Sr. Sheila O’Neill recognized Katie’s unique gifts and persuaded her to take on the role of Advancement Director. This decision set Katie on a path that would significantly shape the future of Cor Jesu Academy. Katie's early days as Director of Advancement were marked by her determination to elevate Cor Jesu's financial standing. Her primary goal was straightforward yet ambitious: raise more money to support the school’s programs and initiatives. Katie recognized the exceptional value of a Cor Jesu education and knew that additional resources were essential for the school to reach its full potential. As she delved deeper into the field of Advancement, Katie’s objectives evolved. She began to focus not only on fundraising but also on increasing participation and demonstrating to donors the tangible impact of their contributions.

One of Katie’s most significant achievements during her tenure was the growth of Cor Jesu’s Endowment. Under her leadership, the endowment flourished, enabling the school to offer substantial financial aid and make a Cor Jesu education accessible to a broader

range of families. This accomplishment was particularly meaningful to Katie, as it aligned with her belief in educational equity.

In addition to her work on the endowment, Katie was instrumental in developing the RISE program, an initiative designed to provide academic support to underserved middle school students. The RISE program exemplifies Katie’s commitment to inclusivity and her understanding of the importance of early academic intervention. By offering additional resources and support, the RISE program helps bridge the gap and set these students on a path to success.

Katie's tenure was not without its challenges. One of the most challenging projects she undertook was the acquisition of 16 acres of land adjacent to the Cor Jesu campus. This land, which now houses the school’s field, parking, and undeveloped areas, was crucial for the school’s expansion. Navigating the complexities of zoning, negotiations with developers, and real estate law was a steep learning curve for Katie. However, her perseverance, strategic acumen, and unwavering commitment to Cor Jesu saw the project through to a successful conclusion.

The impact of Katie’s work at Cor Jesu is evident in the enhanced student experience. The campus expansion and building additions have significantly improved the facilities, providing students with more opportunities for learning and growth. Moreover, the increase in financial aid has opened the doors of Cor Jesu to a diverse range of students,

reflecting Katie’s belief in the power of education to transform lives. Her efforts have ensured that the school's motto, "Sharing the Love of the Heart of Christ," are a lived reality for the entire Cor Jesu community.

After serving Cor Jesu for 21 years, Katie eagerly anticipates spending more time with her adult children, who live in four different cities, and traveling with her husband, Brian. She also plans to continue her passion for education by consulting for other Catholic schools across the country. Katie’s commitment to education and her desire to share her expertise with other institutions is a testament to her lifelong dedication to fostering learning and development. Her legacy is one of transformative growth, unwavering dedication, and a deep commitment to the mission of Cor Jesu.

Katie Thiemann’s contributions to Cor Jesu Academy will be felt for generations to come, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide the community she so dearly loves.

A scholarship has been created to honor Katie's legacy and contributions to Cor Jesu. If you would like to contribute to the The Katie Magee Thiemann '81 Scholarship, please contact Brittany Peek Seabaugh '04, Director of Leadership Giving at bseabaugh@corjesu.org.

Cor Jesu Academy’s Heart-to-Heart Society is comprised of dedicated individuals who generously support our mission through recurring gifts. Alumnae contributions benefit Class Scholarship Funds, while donations from parents and friends strengthen The Charger Fund (unless otherwise specified).

PEGGY MCGRATH TERRIO

A Legacy of Faith, Success and Giving Back

At Cor Jesu Academy, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our alumnae—women who have taken the values instilled during their time at Cor Jesu and applied them to make a lasting impact in their careers, communities, and the world. One such woman is Peggy McGrath Terrio, an alumna whose story resonates deeply with the mission of Cor Jesu. Peggy McGrath Terrio, a proud alumna of the Cor Jesu Academy Class of 1983, has built a remarkable life rooted in the values she learned from her Catholic upbringing. Raised in a large, faith-filled family, Peggy’s parents prioritized one thing above all else: a Catholic education for their children.

“My parents gave up everything for our education,” she recalls. “Vacations, new furniture— none of it mattered as much

as making sure we attended Catholic schools.” This deep commitment to faith and education would be the foundation upon which Peggy would build both her personal and professional life.

Her parents’ decision to send her to Cor Jesu Academy proved to be life changing. Peggy initially considered other Catholic girls' schools but found something special in Cor Jesu. “CJ felt more alive,” she says, recalling the warmth of the community and the close-knit environment. From that point forward, Cor Jesu became a second home, providing her not only with a strong academic foundation but also with the confidence to forge her own path.

Peggy’s journey into the business world was far from straightforward. After starting college in a medical technology program, she quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit and shifted her focus to accounting, a field more aligned with her skills and interests. It took time and perseverance to finish her degree while working full-time, but Peggy’s determination never wavered.

After gaining experience at a CPA firm and later as an office manager for a construction company, Peggy took a bold step—she launched her own business. Today, her company, TraMar Contracting, is a leading traffic and striping contractor in Missouri. But building a business as a woman in the male-dominated construction industry was no small feat. “Being the only woman in the room hasn’t always been easy,” Peggy admits. “But Cor Jesu gave me the confidence to believe in myself and push forward. Honesty, integrity, and delivering the best product have been the keys to my success.”

Peggy’s story is one of resilience, grit, and hard work—traits she credits to her education at Cor Jesu. The values

she learned as a student have stayed with her throughout her professional journey, guiding her as she navigated challenges and built her business from the ground up.

Despite her demanding career, Peggy has always made time to stay connected to Cor Jesu, and she is passionate about giving back to the school that shaped her. One of her key motivations for donating is her desire to ensure that future generations of young women have the same opportunities she had. “Cor Jesu shaped who I am today,” she says. “I want other girls to experience the education and community that I was so fortunate to have.”

Peggy and her husband have also been passionate supporters of the RISE Program, which helps middle school girls with financial need gain the skills to get into and thrive at top high schools in St. Louis. She feels a deep responsibility to help make Catholic education accessible to all. “It’s a true burden for many families to afford private education, and I feel blessed that my parents chose to invest in mine. Through donations, we can grow the school’s endowment and ensure Cor Jesu remains one of the top Catholic girls’ schools in St. Louis for generations to come.”

Peggy’s story is one of resilience, grit, and hard work—traits she credits to her education at Cor Jesu.

For Peggy, giving back is more than just writing a check—it’s about making a meaningful impact on the lives of future students and helping preserve the legacy of Cor Jesu. “The students of today are the leaders, educators, and mothers of tomorrow. By giving to Cor Jesu, we are investing in the future.”

Peggy believes deeply in the power of generosity and encourages her fellow alumnae and community members to support Cor Jesu in whatever way they can. “Start small, but start now,” she says. “Make giving a habit, just like paying a bill. You’ll find that it feels good, and the impact you can make over time is incredible.”

Her advice to others is simple but powerful: “Giving back is not about the amount—it’s about the act itself. Whether it’s time, talent, or treasure, every little bit helps.” Peggy is a firm believer that Cor Jesu’s mission of educating young women in the Catholic faith is critical to the future, and she calls on others to join her in ensuring that mission continues to thrive.

Peggy McGrath’s story is one of faith, determination, and generosity. From her strong Catholic upbringing to her success as a female business owner, Peggy has always remained committed to the values instilled in her at Cor Jesu Academy. As both an alumna and a benefactor, she continues to share the love of the Heart of Christ with future generations, helping ensure that Cor Jesu remains a beacon of faith and education for years to come.

Summer Experiences

Through Cor Jesu Academy’s Corporate Partners Initiative, rising juniors and seniors had the opportunity to participate in CJA’s Summer Experience programs. Students have the option to explore careers in business, engineering or medicine. Through these innovative programs, current Chargers engage with field professionals and participate in hands-on activities. We are proud to provide students with opportunities to unlock new skills and discern career paths throughout high school. We are extremely grateful to our Corporate Partners who make these weeks so engaging and impactful!

Readiness. Intellect. Spirituality. Empowerment.

Cor Jesu Academy’s RISE program prepares middle school girls for success at the top high schools in St. Louis by enhancing their skills in Math, English Language Arts, and Science. This program offers a summerlong experience and continues on select Saturdays during the school year, all held at Cor Jesu Academy. Designed for students with strong academic potential and financial need, RISE provides an opportunity to experience high school life while building confidence and a solid academic foundation.

Now in its second year, the RISE program equips these girls with the skills needed for success in top St. Louis high schools. The program shows significant student improvement in both math and reading.

“Education is a work of love.”

Alumnae Legacy of Love Award

Love is our legacy. Since 1956, every Cor Jesu student has learned the importance of embracing and sharing the love of the Heart of Christ. We are so proud of our alumnae and all they have accomplished in their communities. With this Legacy Scholarship, we invite alumnae daughters to experience the sisterhood, community and spirit of Cor Jesu. This scholarship is renewable each year. Students will be considered based on information provided in their admissions application.

Legacy of Love Award – $1,000

This amount is awarded to any daughter of a Cor Jesu Academy alumna and is renewable each year.

Third State Soccer Championship Victory

Cor Jesu won the State Soccer Championship for the 2024 season. This latest triumph, marked by a commanding 3-0 victory over Rockwood Summit in the championship match, is CJ's third state title in soccer, adding to the storied history of victories in 1985 and 2012. The path to this championship was built on an outstanding season, where the Chargers recorded a 21-4 overall performance. Their journey was capped by an impressive 12game winning streak, reflecting the team’s relentless drive and cohesive play. Each match brought out the best in our athletes, showcasing skill, determination and the strategic brilliance imparted by their coaches. Leading the team was Head Coach Rachel Brcic, a proud member of the Class of 2008, whose guidance was instrumental in steering the Chargers to victory. Alongside her, Assistant Coaches Emily Erbs ‘17, and Nina Bono Murphy ‘05, played pivotal roles

in shaping the team’s dynamic and fostering a supportive environment that has allowed each player to thrive. The collaboration between these three alumnae exemplifies the enduring impact of Cor Jesu’s community, where former students return to give back, nurturing the next generation of champions.

The championship game against Rockwood Summit was a stunning display of soccer, highlighting the team’s exceptional talent and strategy. From the opening whistle, Cor Jesu dominated the field, with their defense forming an impenetrable wall and their offense executing plays with precision and flair. Maddie DiMaria ‘27 scored twice and added an assist during a first-half blitz that propelled

the Chargers to a 3-0 win. Taylor Arnold ’24 scored the third and final goal of the game, all three of which were within a six-minute span. Each moment of the game reflected the Chargers' hard work and determination, making this win a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved. As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we look forward to the continued growth and success of our athletic programs. The legacy of Cor Jesu’s soccer champions will undoubtedly inspire future generations to aim high and strive for brilliance.

ESTABLISHING AN Endowed Scholarship

Establishing an Endowed Scholarship is a significant way to fulfill an immediate and future need by providing financial aid to Cor Jesu Academy students.

THERE ARE THREE LEVELS OF ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS AT COR JESU:

PARTIALLY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

• Established with a contribution or pledge of $25,000

• This scholarship allows Cor Jesu to offer partial tuition assistance annually

• 5% of the Endowed Scholarship balance is awarded annually to one student

SEMI-ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

• Established with a contribution or pledge of $200,000

• This scholarship allows Cor Jesu to offer half tuition remission annually to one student

FULLY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

• Established with a contribution or pledge of $400,000

• This scholarship allows Cor Jesu to offer full tuition remission annually to one student

HOW ARE SCHOLARSHIPS STARTED & COMPLETED?

Endowed Scholarships can be made with a single gift, or they may begin with a seed gift of $5,000 or more with a minimum commitment of $25,000, and an agreement to complete the endowment over time. Endowed Scholarships may be completed through recurring giving, or through a will bequest or other estate plan provisions. Gifts may be in the form of cash, appreciated securities, property or through a Donor Advised Fund. *All gifts to the Endowment Fund are tax-deductible.

BENEFITS OF ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

An Endowed Scholarship provides a personal and permanent way to make a difference in the life of a student and her family. Your investment ensures that you will personally provide a Cor Jesu education for a deserving student and future students. While each Endowed Scholarship is tracked individually, all Cor Jesu Endowment funds are invested together, to realize the benefits of a larger investment pool. The assets are invested in a fully-diversified portfolio and are part of a disciplined investment program overseen by Cor Jesu’s Endowment Committee. Scholarships are provided by the distributions made from the investment portfolio.

Scholarship eligibility at Cor Jesu is determined by a need-based assessment through FACTS Management.

Blessed Clelia Legacy Society

Cor Jesu Academy thanks the members of the Blessed Clelia Legacy Society, listed on page 33.

Members of the Blessed Clelia Legacy Society have chosen to name Cor Jesu Academy in their estate plans, through wills, trusts, life income gifts, retirement plans, life insurance policies or others means. Member gifts are currently and will continue to provide support for current and future Chargers.

Bequests to Cor Jesu can be for a specific amount, for the percentage of an estate, or for all or a portion of what remains after other bequests have been distributed.

Cor Jesu invites participants in the Society to direct the use of the funds they will one day contribute. An unrestricted gift gives the school the flexibility to assign the gift based on areas of greatest need; a restricted gift ensures the donation will be distributed according to the benefactor’s wishes, whether that’s to immediate financial aid, the endowment, capital projects or specific programs.

An estate gift of $20,000 or more can carry the name of the donor or that of a loved one. What a way to build a legacy!
