Teacher’s Tower

A Residential Tower Confronting the Housing Crisis

Around all major cities in the US, there is a housing crisis. There isnt enough homes for a fair price, and the housing market is high right now, especially in highly populates cities. At the same time, teachers around the country are fighting for a more fair pay, so they may make enough just to live and work in some of these highly populated cities. The cost of living is steadily increasing on a yearly basis and both the housing crisis and teacher salary issues make it difficult for the educational careers in general.

With the Teacher’s Tower, I introduce a mix-use apartment highrise, integrated with quality of life amenities. Near the ground floor is an integrated lecture hall, as well as different areas for buisnesses. Scattered on different levels of the building are amenities such as gyms, a community garden and exterior spaces. It is affordable housing with enough room to support entire families or even single residents.

Aqua-0 Apartments

An Affordable Housing Project for South Miami

A neighborhood in East Kendall is calling to be revitilized with a new affordable housing project. The housing is to be suitable for college students, lower class residents, and young families. With the site being located near the University of Miami, opportunity arrises for the area to grow in a more diverse way. The neighborhood is requesting that the building be mix-use, so that some small buisnesses can be invited along with the new residences.

The project “Aqua-0 Apartments” successfully creates affordable housing and invites the integration of younger adults into the neghborhood. Utilizing renewable energy strategies, the building provides electricity and water with little carbon footprint. Aqua-0 Apartments is the first staple building of the neighborhood as other lots around are in the process of being reinvigorated. This project is the first step for the neighborhood to include a more diverse age group.

A Cabin Design for Knuk

In some Religions, the number 9 is significant. In Christianity, the number 9 can represent completeness or finality. In Buddhism, there is 9 stages of conciousness. In Islam, the number 9 is the amount of verses that were revealed during the first revelation to the prophet Muhammad. Regardless of beliefs, the number 9 has some factor about it in different religions which are to humans. Meditation, prayer, and even forms of yoga are all forms of practice that people use to connect with their inner selves or their God.

The Meditation House is a tranquil and quiet space which allows complete connectivity between one’s spirit and another being. The significance of the number 9 is represented in the ceiling design, with a complex lighting system utilizing reflectability and on the concpet of ascension. Innitially designed to be an ADU project, the design has since been elevated to become a public cabin space of sorts.

A Recreational Facility for the Bronx

Location: New York, New York

The Bronx, New York is an borough which prides itself on its deep musical culture and active lifestyle. Sports is a constant factor that keeps the Bronx and its community members intact. Located in the center of the district, is the home of the Yankees, Yankee Stadium. Surrounding the stadium alone are 8 parks each containing various sporting courts, including basketball, soccer, football, etc.

The project is located atop a hillside overlooking the Bronx. There is a direct view of the Yankee Stadium and another large park. The building is a recreational facility, aimed to be the host of organized sporting leagues such as hockey, basketball, tennis etc. Some additional programs include a physical therapy center, gyms, and community themed course classrooms.
