by Karen-Anne Cherwonogrodzky “I belong to the Rock Club.” “Like Rock Music?” “No, The Medicine Hat Rock and Lapidary Club.” “What is Lapidary?” Well let me tell you about lapidary, our club (MHR&LC) and what we have in store for 2019. Lapidary is basically the cutting and polishing of stones, but our members also enjoy wirewrapping, stained glass, silversmithing, beading and more. Field trips are fun too, but you may think we have rocks in our heads searching for treasures in conditions such as this, at a gravel pit out in the cold. The

November 15, 1989. The first meetings were held in homes and then in various locations. In 2003, we moved to our current location in the Gas City Kiwanis Centre at 826 11 St SE. The MHR&LC is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Societies Act. We are looking forward to our 30th Anniversary celebrations this year. Our club has been very active for many years. We have hosted a number of events for the Alberta Federation of Rock Clubs (AFRC) and the Gem and Mineral Federation of Canada (GMFC) and have some of the pins left to prove it. You may have also

seen members manning displays at the mall, at the Better Living Exhibit building at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, the Rock & Gem Show or perhaps giving a talk in a school or presenting funds or items to a charity.
(May Daze Tailgate Sale 2018)
This will be another busy year for our club. We will be proud to host the 56th Annual May Daze. May Daze is a gathering of all the Rock & Lapidary Clubs across Alberta. These clubs make up the AFRC. The public is encouraged to join us on Sunday, May 19, 2019 between 1:00 and 3:00 pm at the Seven Person's Hall for our annual May Daze tailgate. AFRC members will be selling a variety of raw and finished stones, jewellery and possibly some findings and equipment. 10% of the tailgate sales go to cover AFRC expenses for May Daze.

Meetings: • Date: First Tuesday of each month (except July and August). • Time: 7:30 pm • Location: Kiwanis Centre, 826 - 11 Street S.E., Medicine Hat. Membership: Annual dues for club membership are: $25.00 per family or couple, $20.00 per individual. To become a member, simply attend any monthly meeting, or contact us.
