LET GOOD PEOPLE “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone” Ronald Reagan 40th President of the United States understood the vast potential of a giving, caring, conservative culture. I am pleased and proud that over 100 Albertans joined Jason Kenney and myself August 2nd to help kick-off a series of endorsements for Jason from United Conservative MLA’s. After a resounding 95% vote in favour of uniting the Wildrose and PC parties, it’s time for all Albertans

DO GOOD THINGS WITH THEIR TIME AND MONEY that believe in limited government to work together to share ideas, resources, and solutions. Let me be clear. Cypress-MedicineHatters are among the most independent of Albertans and the good people here consistently tell me that encouraging self-reliance and independence will free people up to help one another, our families and communities, and enhance the fabric of our giving. In a nutshell, government needs to be limited so we can allow good people to

do good things with their time and money. Equally as important, is SE Albertans desire to leave the province better for our kids and grandkids. Albertans are shocked that while they are working hard, building, and foregoing consumption for the next generation. In spite of significant tax increases the last 2 years, the Alberta government’s deficit budgets, to the tune of $90 Billion have the potential to increase taxes so much on our children that it will evaporate much www.copyworksconnection.com

of this generation’s hard work and stewardship. Families and communities are building blocks of Alberta culture and need limited government and local decision making to reach their maximum goodwill and potential. Alberta is not about credit downgrades, people withdrawing from the

workforce, and ever increasing centralization of services into larger metros. The Alberta Advantage is about working hard, taking calculated risks, sharing with our neighbours and all Canadians, and being happy and proud because we are able to do just that. Because 95% of you asked me to work out

issues of difference with the PC party and unite as a single, members driven, fiscally Conservative party, I have 100% accepted that. The focus now is on local decision making, families and communities and returning the Alberta economy to one of prosperity, jobs, balanced budgets and low end incentive based taxation.

Did You See That? Two guys are out hiking. The first guy says, "Did you see that?" "No," the second guy says. "Well, a bald eagle just flew overhead," the first guy says. "Oh," says the second guy. A couple of minutes later, the first guy says, "Did you see that?" "See what?" the second guy asks. "Are you blind? There was a big black bear walking on that hill, over there." "Oh." A few minutes later the first guy says, "Did you see that?" By now, the second guy is getting aggravated, so he says, "Yes, I did!" And the first guy says, "Then why did you step in it?"

During a hike with my friend, I noticed a black bird roosting in a nearby tree. "I've always wondered what the difference is between a crow and a raven," I said. "You have to count the pinion feathers on the wing," my friend explains. "If there are four, it's a crow. If it's five, it's a raven." "Really?" I said, although I knew he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. "Oh yes," he replied. "The difference is just a matter of a pinion."

With 2017 being Canada's 150th birthday, this year is special. For the 150th year celebration, Canada Post has produced a series of noteworthy stamps highlighting certain events. Between 1967 and 2016, we have enjoyed accomplishments of Canadians across the country and have shown this by issuing a special set of 10 stamps. Each of these stamps tells its own story, and no matter which part of the country we live in, there is a changing scene of diversification and ambition to put it all together. 1. 1967 Expo Montreal A well known architect Mosche Safdie's work at Montreal's World Trade Fair is now shown to us with this 150th year stamp. 2. 1971 Trans-Canada Highway The Trans-Canada Highway, which started construction in 1950, was

by Basil Dodd Member of the Medicine Hat Stamp Club

a major undertaking to link Newfoundland and British Columbia together. This highway runs through all 10 provinces with many connections to different parts of the U.S.A. Also, there are many locations where travelers can access to more northern parts of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. The Trans-Canada was completed in 1971, but many sections remained 2 lanes until the mid 1955. 3. 1972 Hockey Summit Series International Hockey until 1972 was a distant cry, but with approval of Professional Hockey, it all changed with the Canada-Russian game in September 1972. The legendary hockey game of 1972 opened the door for Olympic and Professional games. Canadian Hockey

will always provide the right stuff. 4. 1980 Marathon of Hope This stamp was issued to commemorate the Terry Fox Run across Canada. An attempt that very few would have considered a possibility even in good health. Terry Fox gave this challenge everything he had, only to be unable to compete, but covered 5,373km in 143 days to arrive at Thunder Bay, Ontario before being forced to retire. The stamp for the Marathon of Hope was issued on May 25th, 2017 at St. John's Newfoundland with Terry's sister, and Mayor Dennis O'Keefe. 5. 1981 Canadarm It was November 13, 1981, when the Canadarm went into action on board space shuttle Columbia. The www.copyworksconnection.com

space shuttle program ended in 2011. Since 2011, a new Canadarm 2 has been developed. The new robotic arm is located on the international space station. On April 28th, 2017, Jeremy Hansen unveiled the Canadarm stamp in Toronto at Glen Ames Public School. 6. 1982 The Constitution This stamp was a signification of Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau signing the new Constitution Act of 1982 in Ottawa on April 17th. The new Constitution of 1982, replaces the original British North American Act of 1867, when Canada was founded as a self governing country. Today the Canadian Government can change and amend the Charter of Rights and Freedom, and has the right to affirm all individuals equally. 7. 1999 Nunavut It was April 1st, 1999, that the Nunavut territory joined Canada. This vast land was the largest Aboriginal claim incorporated into Canada. This land represents an area one fifth of all Canada and has become the fastest population growth. It covers much of the arctic and most northernly inhabitance. This stamp was unveiled May 30th, 2017 at the Legislative Assembly in Iqaluit.

8. 2005 Marriage Equality The Civil Marriage Act has given the right for same gender couples to marry in 2005. This stamp was unveiled by Canada Post on May 9th, 2017. Today this union of couples is in agreement with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. On July 12th, 2003, the Ontario Superior Court ruled the legal right to change. On July 20th, 2005, the Federal Civil Marriage Act became law, and Canada was the fourth country to achieve equality in same gender marriages.

skier Lauren Woolstencroft was the first to win 5 gold medals, and Para Nordic skier Brian McKeever earned 3 gold medals, for a total of 13 medals to his name.

9. 1976-2016 Olympic Games Canadian athletes have shown over the years that they are every bit as good on the world scene as anyone else. Our stamps and stories portray a colorful time in our Olympic history. Each event has been a credit to our country, and without the support and training,we would not be in a medal contention position. 10. 1976-2010 Paralympic Glory Canada has hosted two Paralympic Games, one in Tel Aviv, Israel 1976, and Vancouver in 2010. The summer Olympics in Israel, Canada sent 22 wheelchair athletes. In 2010 the winter games in Vancouver, Para, alpine

Jerry Zacher IS THE BNI MEMBER OF THE MONTH.

It's been a journey that has given me a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment. My career started in the 70's after doing many jobs that I wasn't really satisfied with. The idea of being a radio Disc Jockey has always been intriguing to me and finally one day I made the decision to go for it. Started by going to the Lethbridge Community College to take the 2 year Radio Arts Course. Before I graduated, I was hired by CJOC Radio in Lethbridge to work in the Crowsnest Pass. From there it was on to Fernie, B.C. where I did both on air and sales. Moved to Edson and did on air plus sales and in 1980, I moved into full time sales. My next move was to Edmonton and then to Medicine Hat, my home town. This was in 1992 and 25 years later I still love what I do. They say if you love what you do you never work a day at a job and that's exactly how I feel. Since moving back to Medicine Hat, I've made many friends and have enjoyed working with each and every one of my clients over the years. Thank you Medicine Hat for the opportunity. 18 Copy Works CONNECTION Issue 09/17
