Hayden town manager resigns, effective immediately By Mila Besich Lira Copper Basin News Hayden’s Town Manager, Bill Liester resigned from his position during a special meeting held on Monday, Oct. 28. His resignation was announced following the

Councils decision not to renew his contract, which was set to expire in January. The Town Council has established temporary commissions and will vote to make all necessary decisions regarding official town business.

Each councilmember was assigned a department for which they are responsible. At press time the council had not met to determine what their next steps will be to hire a new manager or leave the position open.

PCSO, police investigate shooting, robbery in Superior On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 7:16 a.m. detectives from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office were asked to assist the Superior Police Department with a shooting investigation. Detectives responded to Superior and met with their officers for a briefing. The detectives were told, the 40-year-old male victim had been severely beaten and had a single gunshot wound to his neck. The victim was transported to a level one trauma hospital in Phoenix. The victim immediately had to go in to surgery for the gunshot wound. The victim’s truck was also found burned in the desert several miles away. PCSO Detectives were able to learn through interviews, the shooting victim was also the victim of a robbery several days prior. Detectives learned after the robbery, the victim was warned by the suspects involved he needed to leave town. On Oct. 26 shortly before 3 a.m., two females showed up at the victim’s residence

and offered to sell him methamphetamines. The victim left his residence in the 1700 block of S. Quail Dr. in Superior with the two females. The victim drove his truck with the individuals to a location in Superior. Once at the location, the victim was shot in the neck and later beaten by several of the suspects who had previously robbed him. After being beaten and shot, the suspects stole the victim’s vehicle. The victim walked home and a friend called 9-1-1. The victim’s truck was then burned by the suspects in the desert. “The shooter was identified through the investigation as Robert Villalobos (age 26 of Superior). Villalobos was located by detectives and he was taken into custody,” Sheriff Paul Babeu said. “The investigation is still ongoing as detectives are interviewing other possible witnesses. Additional arrests are pending.” Robert Villalobos was booked into the Pinal County

Jail for Armed Robbery, three counts of Aggravated Assault (count one - causing a serious injury, count two - using a deadly weapon and count three - using force that causes temporary but substantial disfigurement, temporary but substantial loss or impairment of any body organ or part of a fracture of any body part), Possession of a Dangerous Drug, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Theft and an outstanding Parole Violation.
