This event is held in Austin every other year when the legislature is in session. CITY OF COPPELL Much is made of Coppell’s enviable northwest Dallas County location — and for good reason.

It’s just a quick drive to DFW International Airport, the Las Colinas business center, the North Dallas business center or downtown Dallas. It’s not much further to downtown Fort Worth.

Coppell’s economy relies largely on its proximity to DFW International Airport, which is directly to its southwest and accessible by multiple highways and surface routes.

As such, many corporations have shipping, distribution facilities and headquarters in a large commercial zone comprising the southwestern section of the city. Among them are Amazon, Lucent, The Container Store, Gordon Foods, Samsung, Mohawk Industries and many more. It is also home to AAA Texas Headquarters.

Coppell is proud of maintaining both a consistently low crime rate as well as low unemployment rate. Single-family

CITY GOVERNMENT The City of Coppell is governed by a mayor and seven council members, all elected at-large to their respective offices by the qualified voters of the city.

All powers of the City, except as otherwise provided in the Home Rule Charter, are vested in the City Council, which provides for the exercise and performance of all duties and obligations imposed upon the City by law.

City Council meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Council Chambers at 255 E. Parkway Blvd. at 7:30 pm. Executive Session/Work Session begins at 5:30 pm. Work Session is open to the public in the first floor conference room. Typically there is only one meeting during the months of June, November and December.

A NOTE FROM MAYOR WES MAYS Coppell is one of those special places that has it all — a thriving business district, a top tier school district, acres of green space, and one-of-a-kind public amenities — wrapped up in a close-knit, small-town package. We’re known throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for providing an exceptional quality of life for our approximately 43,000 residents. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS The Coppell YMCA has been making an impact in the community since 1986 when, as an extension of the Lewisville YMCA, it began offering Indian Guides & Princesses (Adventure Guides) and after school programs.

To better serve the fast-growing community, the YMCA opened its Coppell facility in 1999. The branch immediately exceeded membership expectations. A major expansion was completed in 2002, and just this year the facility under went a major renovation including a new state-of-the-art cycle room, workout space, and a front desk facelift.

The Coppell Family YMCA is honored to support the community in many ways outside of providing a physical space to work out.

We have rolled out two programs this year that are new to the Coppell Chamber.

The 19th Leadership Coppell Class will begin its expanded program under the Chamber in August 2022. The class is now a 10 month educational program that trains leadership skills in the areas of city operations, state government, economic development, healthcare, education, community services and the arts.

Participants will walk away with skills to run any business or community.

Also rolling out in the fall of 2022 is the Discover Coppell campaign. Coppell has been an undiscovered gem in the heart of the Metroplex for decades. As our businesses have grown, so has the community and we are excited about driving more guests and visitors to our multitude of restaurants, hotels, boutiques, parks, walking trails and art center.

I would say the people in the community, their love and relentless commitment to wellbeing, safety and growth is unparalleled. It is truly a small town that thinks big.

Where does your passion for business development and community come from?

My passion for business development derives from my strong desire to succeed.

Business development is the foundation that catapults your vision and goals and without it you quickly become stagnant.

I have served in many capacities in every community I have lived in. I’ve always found a way to give back. Since the time I was about 7 or 8 years old my mother had us working in the community and that really instilled in me the value of service to others and my community.

What do you want your legacy as 2022 Board Chair to be?

When coming into this role, my commitment was to take the Coppell Chamber to the next level. I believe we have become one of the premier destination areas for great cities and suburbs, schools, jobs and businesses for our corporate tax structure. We may be seeing the beginnings of the market softening to some degree, whatever that means in our hyper-fast moving market.

Homes are beginning to sit, price reductions are happening and the days of 50+ offers at 25% over list price are behind us. It’s still competitive if you want the “shiny penny” house, but we are seeing sellers start to list a bit high. Interest rates are up higher than they have been for quite some time, so this is a contributing factor. Have the mindset of trying to buy while things are slow and you can refinance when the economy figures itself out.

PediPlace

PediPlace is a non-profit pediatric healthcare practice for children from birth through 18 years of age who are uninsured or who receive Medicaid or CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) benefits. SENIOR COMMUNITY The Coppell Senior & Community Center at Grapevine Springs is operated by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and provides a recreation center for those 50 years of age or older.

Visiting the Senior Center is a wonderful way to meet new friends and enjoy a wide variety of programs, social events and drop-in activities. The Center offers progressive programs in the areas of education, excursions, health, fitness, aquatics, special events, arts and crafts, bingo, darts and bridge. Programs are designed to meet the needs of seniors and the community by promoting healthy aging and are either free or have a minimal cost.

SHARED TRANSIT SERVICES The City of Coppell has partnered with Denton County’s non-profit SPAN Transit to provide shared transportation services for seniors age 60+ and those who may have mobility impairment.

SPAN will begin processing properly completed applications immediately upon receipt. Please allow up to 21 days for processing.

All SPAN vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts or ramps.

SPAN drivers are trained to assist individuals who may have mobility impairment or use assistive devices.

SPAN’s service area includes all of Coppell and surrounding areas in close proximity to the Coppell city limits. Service to and from Baylor Scott & White Medical Center — Grapevine is also included as a part of SPAN’s contract with Coppell.

Coppell Nature Park is 66 acres of natural space that features three types of habitat for local wildlife: Cross Timbers forest, Blackland prairie and Cottonwood Creek.

Always think SAFETY FIRST while exploring nature. Stay on the trails, wear weather-appropriate attire and have plenty of water. Be respectful of the environment and do not litter. Enjoy observing, but avoid disturbing, destroying or removing what you find. Unlike domestic pets, wild animals generally avoid interaction with humans and will flee if given the opportunity. If you encounter a wild animal, remain calm and quiet and do not provoke it. Stay up to date with the Friends of the Coppell Nature Park via their website or Facebook. BioDiversity Education Center The BioDiversity Education Center at Coppell Nature Park works collectively with partner organizations such as Friends of the Coppell Nature Park, City of Coppell, Keep Coppell Beautiful, Coppell ISD and Dallas College North Lake to offer exceptional environmental education programs to the community.

Classes & Programs The BioDiversity Education Center creates an approachable bridge to the outdoors through natural space, the Nature Explore Area and hands-on environmental education programs. Participants of education programs develop a deeper connection to their environment as they learn about local flora, fauna, natural processes and sustainability issues. A wide variety of community programs are offered for all ages including annual festivals, environmental education and gardening classes, school field trips, nature walks and community improvement days. The Biodiversity Education Center is open to the public during visitor hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 am - 12 pm and during scheduled programs.

Junior Master Naturalist Inspired by a volunteer, the Biodiversity Education Center now offers the Junior Master Naturalist program to 4th through 6th graders. This program is modeled after curriculum from the Perot Museum. The experience combines hands-on explorations and outdoor adventures to help young people develop a deeper appreciation and

Art In The Park

In 2016, the City of Coppell partnered with the Coppell Arts Council to promote art from regional artists at public spaces within the City. A collaborative effort between staff and citizens led to the installation of 10 sculptures in the City’s Old Town district, referred to as the Old Town Art Splash. In 2018, phase two was completed, bringing additional sculptural pieces to Coppell’s signature park, Andrew Brown Park East. In 2019, the Old Town Art Splash was refreshed with 10 new art installations.

Coppell Arts Center

The Coppell Arts Center is a gathering place that honors local artists and presents first-class entertainment and diverse cultural experiences for the citizens of Coppell and North Texas residents. In accordance with this mission, they provide local talent with the resources they need to create and present their incredible work and curate experiences from around the region and the nation and bring them here to Coppell. All the while, it is a home base for community groups looking for a platform to communicate and provide educational opportunities for children and young adults.

Coppell Community Garden

Volunteer gardeners use their gardening skills to raise fresh, nutritious produce year round to donate to Metrocrest Services Food Pantry. In 2018, 18,315 pounds of fresh produce were donated and more than 10,000 volunteer hours were documented. Gardeners learn about growing fruits and vegetables organically, cultivating their plots and working together on community chores. You don’t need to be an expert, just have an interest in organic vegetable gardening.

Coppell Farmers Market

The mission of the Coppell Farmers Market is to form a relationship with local growers/producers in order to provide fresh, seasonal produce

and agricultural products for our community while fostering a sense of place in Old Town Coppell. Produce vendors at the CFM must be located within a 150 mile radius of Coppell.

This keeps the produce locally grown, seasonal and fresh. Often the produce has been picked the day before.

In addition to hosting public education classes, the Life Safety Park’s main education building also houses the City of Coppell’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), under the direction of Coppell’s Emergency Management Division.

An EOC, in a municipal government setting, is a central location from which local government can provide inter-agency and interdepartmental coordination and executive decision making in support of incident response and recovery operations.

Life Safety Park

The Life Safety Park has a mission rooted in benefiting the citizens of the City of Coppell by bridging life safety topics and public education efforts. The facility provides life safety education to children and adult visitors throughout the area, and offers meeting spaces for community organizations. Lessons and programs offered within the Life Safety Park provide a foundation for a lifetime of living safely.

The Life Safety Park coordinates with DFW-area school districts, homeschools, private schools and other organizations to schedule FREE “Study Trips.” These unique expeditions outside of the traditional classroom give students the opportunity to learn life safety

Old Town Coppell

Coppell is known for its small town feel and no place exemplifies this better than Old Town Coppell.

Located in the City’s historic district, Old Town stands at the roots of where the community began, the original town site. Residential homes, businesses and restaurants line the streets creating a walkable, vibrant community and charming gathering place clustered around a beautiful town square, home to the Coppell Farmers Market. Visitors and residents live, work and play in this dynamic new community capturing the essence of Coppell’s historical roots and quality of life.

The CORE

The Coppell Aquatic and Recreation Center first opened its doors in 2000, and has since served the community by providing many recreational and educational programs, services, events and activities for all ages. In May 2015, the center officially changed its name to The CORE to better reflect how the center has become the “core” of Coppell’s fitness, family and community.

The CORE continually serves the community by providing many recreational and education programs, services, events and activities for all ages. Annual passes for access to CORE amenities can be purchased or daily pass rates are available. The CORE includes indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center complete with state of the art cardiovascular and strength training equipment, gymnasium, indoor running track, class and meeting rooms, child care, recreation classes and camps and swimming lessons.

Group exercise classes, virtual exercise classes, free weights, machine-weights, cardio machines, indoor track and an outdoor circuit area are available for use by individuals 13 years and older. Users aged 13-15 must have a parent signed waiver and complete an orientation.

Basketballs may be checked out at the front desk. The gym is also available for open volleyball and badminton play during certain hours. The CORE also has open play pickleball on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The outdoor pool area is open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. Swim lessons are offered year round for all levels through the Jeff Ellis Swimming Program.
