Volunteers clean up the Hinterland

Young @ ’Art The Pomona & District Community House and the Pomona Railway Station Gallery are thrilled to announce a series of Easter school holiday workshops for creative young people aged 12-18 years. Young @ ‘Art, a collaboration of Pomona & District Community House and Pomona Railway Station Gallery, will give young people the opportunity to explore different art mediums in 5 exceptional workshops. Funded by Noosa Council and supported by the Cooroy/Pomona Lions Club, the workshops will be facilitated by experienced local artists who are passionate about their art and keen to pass on their knowledge.

Cooroora PCYC Emergency Services Cadets were among the dozens of volunteers who turned out for Clean Up Australia Day to collect rubbish from around the district and preserve Noosa’s environmental credentials. Noosa Hinterland residents turned out in force early this month to clean up sites where rubbish has been dumped or accumulated following recent rains.

Jurisevic. While the volume of rubbish collected this year is still being tallied, in 2015, 500 Noosa volunteers collected more than 12 tonnes of rubbish.

This year there were more than 20 open sites across the Noosa Region where volunteers donated their services, including a new site at Federal staffed by the local school P&C. Other sites this year included Kin Kin, Cooran, Pomona and Boreen Point.

Councillor Jurisevic, a advocate of the annual kerbside rubbish collection, said those who dump rubbish and white goods in bush areas now had no excuse to continue the illegal practice.

The Gallery is really happy to be involved," said Pomona Gallery manager, Wendy Catlin. All workshops will be held at the Lawson Shed, Memorial Avenue, Pomona (next to the Community House) from 10.00am – 2.30pm and will cost $5.00 per session.
