A STRONG FOUNDATION IN YEARS 5 & 6
A STRONG FOUNDATION IN YEARS 5 & 6
Equipping students and families for a confident start to Secondary schooling at Cooloola Christian College.
The transition from Primary to Secondary school is a significant milestone in your child’s educational journey—one that can come with both excitement and uncertainty.
At Cooloola Christian College, we are committed to making this transition a positive, engaging, and well-supported experience for both students and their families.
We recognise that the move into Year 7 often raises important questions:
• Will my child cope with the increased responsibility?
• How will they manage a new timetable, multiple teachers, and new subjects?
• Will they make new friends and find their place in the community?
• Will they feel safe, seen, and supported in a larger environment?
These are natural concerns and ones that we take seriously.
That’s why we’ve thoughtfully designed our Preparing to Launch into Year 7 program to address these challenges with care and clarity.
We don’t wait until Year 7 to begin the transition. Instead, we lay strong foundations as early as Year 5 and 6, helping students gradually grow in confidence, independence, and familiarity with what lies ahead.
Throughout these foundational years, students begin to navigate new learning environments, engage with a broader team of teachers, and develop the skills and mindset that will help them flourish in Secondary school. It’s a steady, wellpaced approach that ensures no student is left behind or feels overwhelmed by the shift.
At CCC, we believe that transitions should be gentle, guided, and grounded in relationship and connection.
We are not just preparing students for Year 7; we’re preparing them for a purposeful and fulfilling Secondary journey. Every step is supported by a Christ-centred community that values who they are and who they’re becoming.

"...be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus".
PHILIPPIANS 1:6 (NIV)
While Year 5 and 6 students at CCC remain connected to their Primary class teacher for much of the week, they also begin to experience learning in new and exciting ways that mimic aspects of Secondary schooling.
Students engage with specialist Mathematics, Science, Technology, Arts HPE, Language and Humanities teachers.
These lessons often take place in dedicated classrooms within the Primary Village, allowing students to begin navigating different learning spaces and building relationships with a broader team of teachers.
This thoughtful approach helps students grow in confidence, flexibility, and independence; ensuring that when they do move into Year 7, the environment and expectations feel familiar and achievable.
Year 6 is a pivotal stage in the transition to Secondary school, where students embrace greater responsibility and leadership opportunities.
Students have the opportunity to join the Primary Leadership Team, where they can lead Primary Chapel, engage in service learning, support community events, assist with Breakfast Club, mentor others through the Buddy Program, and model CCC’s CLEAR values every day.
These experiences help build confidence, leadership, and a sense of purpose as they prepare for Secondary school.
Students build responsibility for their learning and organisation. They develop key skills like time management and collaboration.
These skills are essential as they transition to Secondary in Year 7.
Expectations around uniforms and homework also begin to align with Secondary standards. Students are encouraged to grow in accountability and responsibility.
Students engage with learning platforms and take responsibility for assessments. Class tasks and homework are uploaded to Student Café - like in Secondary.
Students participate in the Gympie Primary Leaders Day (GPLD), hosted by CCC, with over 190 students from across the region. This event encourages and equips young leaders to step confidently into leadership roles in their school and community.
The beginning of Secondary school marks a significant new chapter in your child’s educational journey and at Cooloola Christian College. We believe this transition should be approached with care, encouragement, and intentional support.
Our Year 7 program is designed to help students feel confident and connected as they adjust to the new rhythms and expectations of Secondary schooling. We ease them into this next stage by surrounding them with consistent support, clear structure, and positive relationships.
Students in Year 7 benefit from:
These teachers guide students through their core subjects and provide meaningful Pastoral Care. These teachers become trusted points of connection who walk alongside students as they grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
A central classroom acts as a familiar and secure base for learning and community. This homeroom model creates a strong sense of belonging and provides stability during the first year of Secondary schooling.
An assigned locker and a College Supplied Device (CSD), help students develop key life skills like organisation, time management, and responsible digital citizenship skills that become increasingly important as they move through the Secondary years.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go".
JOSHUA 1:9 (NIV)
From the moment they walk through the doors of Year 7, students are welcomed into a Christ-centred community that sees them as individuals created with purpose.
We prioritise connection, relationships, encouragement, and growth. We recognise that the journey through Secondary school is as much about character and spiritual development as it is about academic achievement.
Our aim is not just to help students adjust, but to thrive. Students are equipped with the confidence, connection, and skills they need to pursue a bright and meaningful future.
At CCC, we are with you every step of the way as your child launches into this exciting new season.
Year 7 is an exploratory year, offering students engaging core subjects and electives to spark interests, build confidence, and broaden their horizons.

This special morning helps students ease into Secondary school by meeting future classmates, connecting with Year 7 teachers, and exploring the Secondary campus in a relaxed and supportive environment. They’ll learn about timetables, classroom locations, expectations, and where to find help; all while fostering confidence and excitement. This event bridges the end of Primary and the start of Secondary school. Nerves are eased and anticipation is built for the next chapter of their learning journey.
January 2026
The first week of the new school year for our Year 7 students is a thoughtfully structured program focused on building friendships, learning routines, and setting shared expectations. Students participate in activities and challenges that strengthen their relationships with peers and teachers. Positive classroom culture is fostered and behaviours established for learning success.
The program focuses on:
• Connection to God;
• Connection to teachers;
• Connection to peers.
To support students and families even further, CCC offers dedicated events throughout the year that focus on orientation, relationship-building, and familiarity with the Secondary campus.
