Who we are and what we deliver From early clashes between conflicting interests pulling the perishable supply chain in different directions, to cargo owners and logistics providers seeking more common ground, Cool Logistics conferences have become a focal point for logistics and transport people with a passion for temperature-controlled cargo.

Fostering open debate, information exchange and straight-talking between all members of the cold supply chain is, we believe, one way we can support and promote the development of perishable logistics expertise. Starting with the 1st Cool Logistics meeting in 2009, where speakers predicted the reefer box capacity crisis that was to hit headlines in 2010, through to Maersk Line’s announcement of its 30% reefer in 2012, and the long awaited launch of a brand new conventional reefer ship design at Cool Logistics Global 2013, our events consistently probe the key issues of the day and often break major industry announcements.

Connecting the perishable supply chain from production to retail Cool Logistics connects perishable cargo owners with 3PLs, air and ocean carriers, ports and terminals, landside logistics, finance, inspection, equipment, technology and other key stakeholders. Our events are a microcosm of the markets we serve, bringing together the complete perishable supply chain from origin to destination and attracting the top names in the business.

But along with the new opportunities come new challenges. Planning and executing end-to-end perishable logistics has never been more complex or high risk, with so many hand-off points along the chain where things can go wrong. Global reefer ocean and air transport face ongoing cost and service pressures. Ports and the inland cold chain need concerted attention to cope with new growth, especially in emerging markets.

Constructive dialogue, closer collaboration and innovative approaches are now needed across the whole perishables supply chain to ensure that fresh and frozen cargoes get moved to market at the right time, in the right condition, at the right price.

Memorable milestones: charting the course of an industry The 1st Cool Logistics took place in September 2009, in the grip of global downturn.

Speakers from the major container carriers warned of severe reefer box shortages ahead and the ‘perfect storm’ hit in 2010.

Carriers, 3PLs and shippers came together at Cool Logistics 2010 after a bruising year battling over lack of transport resources. A new spirit started to emerge, with all sides acknowledging the need for better collaboration on cargo forecasting and transport capacity management.

Speakers at Cool Logistics 2011 keyed in on the fast-growing role of Asia and other emerging markets and the impact for global perishables transport. The rise of halal logistics as a distinct and growing market segment was a particular conference highlight.

Fruit South Africa used Cool Logistics Africa 2012 to call for a united effort to tackle export supply chain costs and constraints. The conference heard that logistics costs in Africa are up to 4 times higher than elsewhere, hampering the competitiveness of Africa’s perishable trades.

Maersk Line chose Cool Logistics Global 2012 to announce the carrier’s forthcoming 30% increase in reefer rates. Over 240 conference attendees from 28 countries were the first to know what was in store for 2013.

Cool Logistics Africa 2013 provided a vital forum in the continued effort to bridge the gap between agriculture and logistics. The event brought fresh thinking to how the tremendous potential that exists on the African Continent can be unlocked.

Held on board the SS Rotterdam, Cool Logistics Global 2013 attracted even more international participants than in previous years, establishing itself not only as the 'voice of the perishables sector', but also as a coveted launching platform for key industry innovations including a new conventional reefer ship design.
