With an abstract concept such as culture, one must feel, eat, breath, and celebrate to truly understand another culture. It is what the UCLaFrance and UCNunziata cohorts do as they collaborate and bring the different cultures from around the world to life in the classroom. Joining forces, the two cohorts teach each other important information.. The UCLaFrance students often make the food. The UCNunziata students research and write facts to share during the cultural celebrations. Using videos, pictures, music, dance, sports, tasting preference sheets, map work, cultural symbols, and languages, the students explore the many facets of life in different continents. Students make connections to what they experience in the classroom to the diversity found in New York City. Families and staff have made "guest appearances" to share their culture, recent trips abroad, and personal connections to specific cultures. The world becomes a better place through education and understanding differences. Our students have an amazing opportunity to learn about the world and make it a part of their daily lives. Every high school student learns about world cultures but our students get to experience world cultures. Cooke Center students are global students thanks to the entire staff!
