EUGÉNIO
Faz mergulho há 30 anos, foi repórter fotográfico mas é ao conhecido restaurante Fidalgo que tem dedicado o bocado maior da sua vida. Aos 13 anos já estava à frente do restaurante e afirma ter passado ali de tudo: “atravessei as crises, as abundâncias... e cá continuo!”. Nascido no Bairro Alto, Eugénio Fidalgo declara que no seu trabalho tem o melhor de dois mundos: um ambiente familiar povoado de velhas e novas amizades, e a proximidade a casa, “não tenho trânsito, não tenho stress, não posso exigir mais”. E conclui “Daqui já não saio”. He’s been diving for 30 years, was a photojournalist but it is the famous restaurant Fidalgo that has occupied the best part of his life. At 13, he was already at the counter and he’s seen it all: “I’ve been through the good and the bad... and I’m still here!” Born in Bairro Alto, Eugénio Fidalgo says his work gives him the best of both worlds: a family atmosphere of new and old friends and proximity to his home: “There’s no rush hour, there’s no stress. What more could you want.” He ends by saying, “You’ll never get me out of here.”
ISABEL
Deixou a matemática para se dedicar às jóias antigas. Mas por detrás da suposta diferença entre esses dois caminhos reside um elo comum. “Há um rigor nas peças que compro que me vem da matemática. O objecto tem que ser rigoroso”, esclarece, sentada à mesa da loja que abriu há 11 anos e baptizou com o seu nome, Isabel Lopes da Silva, e onde, até no modo como estão expostas as peças se sente a harmonia dos números – nada está a mais ou a menos. É natural de Braga mas o Príncipe Real é onde se sente em casa. “Ainda tem qualquer coisa de bairro. Adoro morar aqui”, remata. She left maths for the world of old jewellery. But despite the differences, there is a common thread. “There’s a precision in the jewels I buy that owes something to mathematics. Each object has to be exact,” she says, in the shop she named after herself, Isabel Lopes da Silva, 11 years ago and where, even in the way the pieces are arranged, one senses the harmony of numbers. Everything is balanced. She’s from Braga, but it’s in Príncipe Real she feels at home. “There’s still a ‘local’ quality to it that I love,” she remarks.
ANTÓNIO
Veio dos Açores para Lisboa para entrar na Escola Naval. Foi durante 19 anos Oficial da Marinha mas o seu “gosto por fazer mais do que uma coisa ao mesmo tempo” levou-o a abrir, em 1982, juntamente com Luis Frazão Gomes e outros, o clássico Café de São Bento. Afirma sem hesitação que o que lhe dá mais gozo na vida é concretizar o que idealiza e aperfeiçoar-se continuamente. Mercados financeiros, italiano, marketing e comunicação, são algumas das áreas que ocupam a sede de conhecimento do Comandante Miranda Cabral, nome pelo qual ficou conhecido desde os tempos da Marinha. He came from the Azores to enter the Naval Academy in Lisbon. He was an officer for 19 years, but his “need to do more than one thing at the same time” led him to open the classic Café de São Bento in 1982. He says unambiguously that what he likes best in life is turning ideas into reality and constantly improving them. Financial markets, Italian, marketing and publicity are some of the areas of expertise of Comandante Miranda Cabral, the name he has been known by since his navy days.
