Anselmo
De São Paulo veio para Lisboa, há dezasseis anos, para estudar Belas Artes. Terminado o curso e depois de viajar pela Europa, abriu há onze anos a Agência 117, juntamente com Carlos Raposo. Começou por ser uma loja de roupa em segunda mão de espírito londrino, mas tornou-se numa loja multimarcas. Passados quatro anos juntaram um serviço de cabeleireiro, o HairKlinic, e depois abriram ao lado a Funk. Sobre o Bairro Alto diz ser “muito apetecível neste lado diurno, onde se conseguem ver as pessoas, o seu estilo, o seu comportamento, e falar com elas. Muito mais interessante do que à noite”. Anselmo arrived from São Paulo 16 years ago and he opened Agência 117 five years after with Carlos Raposo. It started out as a London-style second hand clothes shop, but later began selling various labels. After 4 years, a hair salon, HairKlinic, was added and then Funk next door. About Bairro Alto he says “the daytime side is very enjoyable, as you can see the people, their clothes, how they behave, and you can chat to them. It’s a lot more interesting than the night”.
Virgílio
Foi precisamente no dia 25 de Abril de 1974 que Virgílio Seco abriu a Arquiloja no Príncipe Real, um espaço com antiguidades que hoje em dia também mistura peças actuais. Entretanto, a paixão pela joalharia levou-o a desenhar jóias (desde há 14 anos) e a abrir uma loja na Rua Dom Pedro V dedicada a esta arte. Virgílio sempre viveu aqui, e apesar de ter mudado a residência para o Estoril, este continua a ser o sítio preferido em Lisboa: tem tudo o que é bom, as pessoas conhecem-se, tem uma boa escala e é calmo. É um sítio especial, com um ambiente muito bom”. It was on 25 April 1974 precisely that Virgílio Seco opened Arquiloja in Príncipe Real, where traditional antiques now share space with modern pieces. A passion for jewellery, meanwhile, led to the opening of a dedicated shop in Rua Dom Pedro V with pieces that he has designed himself. Virgílio has always lived here, and despite having moved home to Estoril, this remains his favourite place in Lisbon: “it has all the right ingredients: people know each other, it’s on a human scale and it’s peaceful. It has a great atmosphere”.

Carlos Filipe
Em plena Lisboa Capital da Cultura, em 1994, nasceu o projecto Flower Power, com atelier em Sesimbra. Foi o desabrochar duma nova linguagem no mundo das flores, fora do habitual e mais parecido com conceitos doutras capitais da Europa. Passados uns anos, Carlos Filipe abriu a loja Flower Power na Lapa, e há quatro anos mudou-se para a Calçada do Combro. “Aqui sentimos o coração de Lisboa a bater, cruzam-se o Bairro Alto, a Bica e Santa Catarina. São bairros importantes de dia e de noite, é o ex-libris da cidade”. A Flower Power segue príncipios de Feng-Shui e há sempre um alho algures na loja, para dar sorte. The Flower Power project was born in 1994, the year Lisbon was ‘Capital of Culture’. It was the blooming of a new language in the world of flowers, one that was out of the ordinary and more in common with the rest of Europe.
