Welcome to 2021. Here at The Contract Chair Company the year has started more brightly, despite the latest lockdown - it’s maybe that the industry is starting to feel that the worst point of the pandemic has passed, with the vaccines offering the possibility of hospitality venues reopening in the spring and summer. We are delighted to be hearing that design practices are getting new work, reflecting this more positive outlook. Brexit has happened with shipments from the EU suffering only slight delays so far, albeit with low volumes of traffic through Dover. We are finding that factories are hurrying to adapt their procedures and carriers have not sunk under the notable weight of new paperwork.

We hope you enjoy our newspaper which features our favourite products of the past twelve months and just a fraction of the award-winning hospitality projects we’ve had the absolute pleasure of delivering in 2020. A staggering 17 of our projects were shortlisted for last year’s Restaurant and Bar Design Awards and five of those were happily crowned ‘winner’. The Clockspire, by Studio Indigo in particular went home with one of the most prestigious accolades Best Overall UK Winner in the Restaurant category. The sensationally converted 19th Century former schoolhouse uses outlines to maximum effect and our Galinha Chairs really complement this scheme. We were similarly delighted that Ellis Design Studio took home two awards - Best UK Pub for

Flight Club Birmingham and Best London Bar for Electric Shuffle with their glorious Victoriana and steampunk infused designs. Elsewhere Birdies by Shed Design won the UK’s In Another Space category. Their brief ‘to put the crazy back into crazy golf’ certainly succeeds. Our Brass and Antique Mirror Glass tables help give it a bit of extra shine. And finally Norma by Rosendale Design picked up the prize for Surface Interiors. Our striking Lava Stone Pattern Table Tops perfectly complement the Siciliant restaurant’s Moorish design elements. We wish a heartfelt congratulations to all our nominated projects and look forward to seeing what excellent designs they’re working on in 2021.
