Traveling is all about seeing, trying new things & turning dreams into reality. It’s about new experiences in incredible places that will inspire you. Seeing the snow fall as you look up at the Eiffel Tower, taking a winter stroll through the narrow streets & alleyways of Venice, or sipping a cup of glühwein at one of Europe’s famous Christmas markets. It’s about laughing with the locals, learning new phrases, making new friends & having an awesome time doing it. It’s the diversity that makes Europe special - the rich local cultures, the unique regional food & the amazing characters you meet along the way. It’s about widening your perspective & experiencing new cultures that have a profound impact on your life. And ok, maybe it’s a little bit about the bragging rights back home as well...

Shona, on-site team: “I did a tour in 2008 & I applied the following year. When I was traveling I saw the on-site teams & thought “I want to do that”. The best thing about my job is meeting new people every day - I see how excited they are & it reminds me of my first trip to Europe.”

Mark, Tour Manager: “I took 12 months off work to travel the world & during that time I did the Ultimate European tour. My Tour Manager said I should apply for a job & that’s what planted the seed. I love that my office is somewhere new everyday, I get to meet people from all over the globe & share their experiences.”

Getting around\ When you’re traveling with Contiki it’s not just about being on a coach - you’ll see Europe from all angles. We mix it up with included flights, ferries, trains & cruise boats too. And you’ll also get to mix it up with some fun ways to get around, like by bike, mountain cable car, or even our Explore More optional gondola or canal boat rides. Traveling on our Contiki coaches is more than just a way to get around - it’s a social event. You’re never short of friends to hang out with - it’s a great place to check out the views, listen to music or curl up in your comfy reclining seat & chill. We’re always stopping at great spots on the trip, many of which you’d miss if you traveled any other way.

01

You can even charge your phone, camera or iPod on board too, plus these plush, air-conditioned coaches are environmentally friendly. See p.16 for more. What’s even better about our coaches is that they’re easy & hassle free. We get you where you need to be, drop you right at your door & unload your bags so you can hit the ground running.

Why Winter?\ Winter in Europe is truly exceptional. With snow, skiing, Christmas markets, less crowds & awesome deals, it’s a great time to take advantage of the change in season & see how the Europeans do winter.

In the heart of the city The BB Centro in Florence & the Ibis Wenceslas Square Prague are just some of the many hotels located right in the heart of the city. Just like in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Nice & more.

There’s lots of reasons to pack your coat & get ready to go. Here are a just few…. • • • • •

It’s cheaper to travel. Ski & boarding trips & après ski. Less crowds & lines. All hotel accommodations (no hostels). Christmas, New Years & special event trips.

4 ways to go... Superior Multi-Country trips From 11-26 days & covering more than 20 countries means you can see a lot of different places in the time you have (see p.17-27).

Superior In-Depth Regional trips With longer night stops, you really get to meet the locals & get to the heart of the places you visit, plus get some truly exceptional local meals included in your tour price (more on p.28-39).

Skiing & Boarding Hitting the slopes in Europe is a must-do. Try Contiki’s ski & boarding trips in the Austrian Tyrol. Hit the slopes at one of the world’s top resorts, stay at our exclusive Contiki-only Gasthof & get into the après ski lifestyle the way only Europeans know. We include lots of extra stuff, like day trips, ski races, optional day trips & activities, so there’s plenty going on both on & off the slopes (more on p.40-42).

Festivals & events Wrap up warm, Europe’s famous festivals & events over Winter go off! There’s tons to experience & Contiki can take you there. We’ve got some great festival, event tours & awesome NYE tours like Hogmanay so you can ring in the new year in style (more on p.43-45).

Château Fontager

All hotel accommodation Sleep easy in hotel accommodation, every night. Superior Winter tours are all about having a comfy home away from home – a place to relax each night after a busy day. Comfort to us means great facilities you’ll love like TVs in your room, often WiFi, en-suite bathrooms, laundry facilities & fluffy towels – plus concierge services at your fingertips. We’re flexible too, share with others or get a room to yourself for a little extra. We’ll get you as close as we can to the action when you’re in the city too, so you’re right near the main sights & all the best bits.

Exclusive, charming, stylish We’ve not only picked some great hotels for you to stay in throughout Europe, but some extra special places too. We call them Feature Hotels - they really stand out as exceptional, in distinctive locations & with a ton of great hotel facilities to enjoy.

• Château Fontager, Lyon Spend a night in the beautiful French countryside when you stay in this charming castle set in parklands alongside the River Rhone. Indulge in delicious French cuisine in the banqueting room, take a dip in the huge pool, or just sit back & take in the surroundings.

• Eventhotel Pyramide, Vienna

Easy access You can really live like a local - many of our hotels have easy access to public transportation, so jump on the Metro, tube or tram & get moving. Like the Hotel Regent, Rome – just 2 stops on the Metro to the heart of the city or Blue Square Hotel, Amsterdam - a 10 minute tram ride to the city center.

Close to what you want to see The Ibis Porte de Clichy hotel in Paris, close to Montmartre (home of Sacre Coeur & the Moulin Rouge), Ibis Old Town in central Prague & Hotel President, right by the Duomo in Florence (plus many more).

A ‘room to myself’ option If you like the idea of a little more privacy & comfort, you always have the option of getting a room all to yourself for a little extra. Check out the tour price panels for details. Limited single rooms available.

Going solo Leaving your friends at home? Don’t worry. We can match you with a room-mate, so it’s all good. More than half our travelers head out on their own & experience Europe with young, fun & like-minded travel buddies.

Save even more! On some of our Superior tours you can save even more money for other stuff, by booking tripleshare. You’ll save an additional 5% on your booking. Check out the price panels on the tour pages to see if you can save.

This one-of-a-kind, recently renovated hotel is an attraction in itself with its quirky shape. The rooms are deluxe & if you’re feeling like a bit of pampering, there’s a wellness center with a tranquil indoor aquatic world, sauna & pool (just to name a few!) to chill out in after a busy day’s sightseeing.

Location, location, location When you stay in the city, it’s not just about great facilities & comfort. We know it’s essential to be as close as possible to where the action’s at, so you spend less time getting there & more time experiencing the places that count.

Look out for the orange Explore More optionals panel on the bottom of every tour page.

Bon Appétit T

ravel is all about exploring & there’s no better place to try tons of different food than in Europe. On every tour you’ll get breakfast every day & about half your evening meals. We don’t include every meal (especially lunches) for a reason. Here’s why. We keep meal times flexible to give you more independence & a chance to go local, while having the freedom & flexibility to suit your budget too. Winter in Europe is the perfect time to indulge in some seriously delicious regional delicacies. Think French onion soup covered in crusty bread, fondue in Switzerland, plus bratwurst & sauerkraut in Germany (to name a few). The atmosphere of

winter is awesome too - wandering the Christmas markets indulging in gluhwein, raclette cheese & delicious waffles is the perfect winter experience. On our Superior In-Depth Regional tours, we’ve included some extra special meals at local restaurants in the tour price, think authentic Italian pizza, tapas in Barcelona & mouthwatering carbonara in Rome. On many of our Explore More optional nights out there’s lots of ways to indulge, like feasting in the Tuscan hills while sipping on Chianti, indulging in meze in Istanbul, having traditional bratwurst or fondue in Switzerland & duck a l’orange in Paris are just a few options that will tempt you on your trip. No matter what your tastes (or your dietary requirements), you’ll love what we serve up.

Helping protect our oceans\ Contiki & Celine Cousteau We are excited about our partnership with leading environmentalist, adventurer & explorer, Celine Cousteau, granddaughter of legendary oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau. Celine will be working with us to raise awareness about environmental issues, like those affecting precious marine ecosystems. As a documentary filmmaker & gifted storyteller, Celine has a fantastic ability to connect with people from a diverse range of cultures, and to help individuals better understand their own natural environments. Check out Celine’s video message for Contiki travelers at contiki.com/celinecousteau

Did you know that oceans cover 71% of the globe, but less than 1% are under legal protected status? Beyond beautiful pictures, there’s the harsh realization that this environment is fragile & it’s up to us to protect it for ourselves & for future generations. Contiki is actively supporting two projects involved in the critical task of marine protection. We’re helping young environmentalists in their hands-on work protecting the world’s second largest barrier reef via the Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program. We’re also backing Oceana’s valuable research work in the Mediterranean Sea. Learn more at contiki.com/responsibletravel, where you’ll find a hub of information about oceans designed to inform, inspire & compel change. “I am passionate about collaborating with Contiki, their team & travelers; who are part of the new generation of active citizens making a difference by understanding & protecting the Earth’s resources. The health of our fragile oceans are key to the well-being of our planet as a whole & Contiki‘s choice to help protect the marine environment is a cause which deeply resonates with me.” Celine Cousteau.

Working to make a difference\ Our Foundation.

Recycling.

We’re founding partners of The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation, a nonprofit who has committed more than US$2 million to help underprivileged communities & support sustainable tourism around the world.

The Travel Corporation & Contiki are committed to use 100% recycled paper for the body stock of all our brochures. The environmental benefits are important in the following ways:

From sponsoring the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, encouraging tourism operators to develop & share sustainable tourism practices globally, to supporting Contiki’s own special causes, such as ocean conservation, the Foundation is doing some great work.

• By using paper made from recycled fiber we save approximately 90,000 trees per year.*

On the road.

• The paper mill uses a chlorine free fiber bleaching process (PCF) that avoids potential dioxins from being released into adjoining waterways.

Compared to cars, planes & trains, coaches are by far the most carbon efficient way to travel. Our modern coaches are some of the best in Europe & all exceed strict emission regulations.

Learn more at www.ttcconservation foundation.com

16-17 Contiki Loves - Euro Magic USD.indd 2

• Recycled paper makes for less waste being deposited into landfills.

• The paper mill uses a complex filtration process that returns the river water in a cleaner state than initially received. • The use of 100% recovered fiber means that the mill uses approximately 1/5th of the energy that would be required to produce corresponding grades from primary fibers.

• The body stock paper in our brochures meets the following Forest/Environmental/ Process Certifications: PEFC, Blue Angel, ISO 9001 and 14001. We are proud to commit to using what is one of the most environmentally friendly coated recycled papers on Planet Earth. * Calculation based on that provided by The Environmental Defense Fund.

What about you? Looking after our planet is important & taking care of the environment shouldn’t stop when you go traveling. There are lots of small things you can do each day to make a difference. Simple stuff like re-using your drink bottle instead of buying a new one each day, choosing products with less packaging, recycling on the go or simply turning off the lights when you leave your hotel room are all ways to lessen your environmental impact. Did you know you can reduce your carbon footprint even more by offsetting your travel? Find out how at contiki.com/ responsibletravel.

08/07/2011 11:41

Where you’re headed:

Where you stay & what’s included:

Hopfgarten village, in the Austrian Tyrol, is the perfect location for a ski or boarding vacation. At the gateway to Europe’s top ski resort, Ski Welt, it’s perfect for indulging in lots of slope & backcountry action.

Our own Gasthof features single, twin, triple & quad share rooms (most with private facilities), plus internet facilities & WiFi. Hang up your boots, chill in the bar, or join one of our famous party nights.

Ski Welt is perfect for serious & novice skiers & boarders. Boasting over 155 miles (250km) of slopes, with gondolas & chair lifts, near perfect terrain & one of the biggest artificial snow making machines in Europe, great conditions are guaranteed.

2 ways to go: Travel on the coach from London, or meet us there. If you prefer to fly, we offer free transfers from Innsbruck airport & Wörgl train station (easy links to Munich & Salzburg airports).

Perfect for all levels: Beginner: With 66 miles (107km) of easy runs, Ski Welt has the perfect terrain for beginners. Combined with our great value ski school, you’ll be up on the slopes in no time. Intermediate: Want to improve on your techniques? Tons of intermediate runs mean you’ll really fine tune your skills. Advanced: Plenty of black diamonds will keep even the most advanced skiers & boarders challenged.

41

We include a hot buffet breakfast daily & for a small pre-booked supplement we’ll also include five 3 course dinners (or 10 for a 2-week vacation), all prepared on site.

Our awesome on-site team: The knowledge & expertise of our team is what makes the real difference. They all live in Hopfgarten, so they know what’s hot to do both on & off the slopes.

Après ski: European après ski is an essential part of any vacation. Literally meaning ‘after ski’, from drinking, dancing & socializing in Hopfgarten’s bars, clubs & outdoor schnaps stands, it’s a perfect way to finish up your days. And Hopfgarten has plenty of après ski to indulge in.

Ski essentials - gear & lessons Don’t buy expensive new gear before you go - we’ll hook you up with gear & clothing rentals when you arrive. At ski school, our Englishspeaking instructors will teach you the right techniques to get you up on the slopes, or for the more experienced, teach you ways to improve your know how.

Only with Contiki exclusive inclusions: Personal Ski Guide: Get to know the mountain right from the start on our free guided slope tours. Our Local Ski Guide runs 2 free mountain tours per week, once at the start to show you the ropes, then later on to help uncover some hidden spots.

How much? No. of nights

Salzburg day trip: See more of this alpine region on an included day trip to the home of the Sound of Music. Relax & explore this stunning World Heritage Listed Old Town, overlooked by Hohensalzburg Castle. Sit at a café, get your shopping fix at the city’s many great stores or check out the birth-place of Mozart – there’s lots to explore. The Contiki Grand Slam: If you’re feeling up for it, have a laugh with your ski buddies & show off your skills in our downhill ski race.

Australia, United States, Canada, New Zealand – can travel in the Schengen area without a visa. If you require a visa to enter the Schengen area you only need to obtain one visa which will allow you to travel in all Schengen countries. Schengen visas can be issued for single entry or multiple entries. If your tour travels outside of the Schengen area at any point you will require a multiple entry visa. The Spanish Spree tour requires a multiple entry Schengen visa. Visas for Non-Schengen Countries Some of our tours also visit countries that are not covered by the Schengen Agreement. You may require visas for countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland & Egypt. Depending on your nationality it may be possible to obtain visas for Egypt upon arrival – you should check before you depart for your tour. Important 1. Visas can take up to six weeks & a fee is normally charged. 2. Contiki will provide you with visa contacts from our London base at the Royal National Hotel, if necessary.

These parties are independent suppliers over whom Contiki has no direct control. Unless caused by its own negligence, Contiki is not responsible for and accepts no liability in respect of any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses arising out of: a) personal injury, sickness, disease, accident or death, however caused, including without limitation, where same results from your conduct on vacation. b) loss or damage to or delay of baggage or other property unless resulting from Contiki’s negligence in which case Contiki’s liability shall be limited to the actual loss but in no event would exceed the total vacation cost; c) delays and loss as a result of government action, weather, mechanical breakdown, equipment failure, labor disputes, sickness, acts of war, insurrection, terrorism, Acts of God or any other causes beyond Contiki’s direct control. In the absence of negligence on our part, or on the part of our agents and representatives, neither

we nor they accept any responsibility for, and shall not be liable for, any injury, illness, damage, loss, accident, expense, delay or any other irregularity resulting from your participation in any of the activities made available to you. (viii) We take every reasonable precaution possible to assure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment while you are taking part in a Contiki vacation. Contiki vacations are generally for the young, and not for the frail or those not generally enjoying good health. A change of climate, food, time and varied cultural habits often affects travelers differently. We therefore recommend that you advise your doctor that you are taking one of our vacations and ask if he or she recommends anything for your trip, even for something as seemingly benign as an upset stomach. Since the brands of any medication to which you are accustomed may be unavailable in places to which you are traveling, we recommend you bring your own supply of any medication you will require and carry such medication in your hand luggage. Prescription drugs should be carried in the original labeled bottles. Should you fall ill during your Contiki vacation, we will make every reasonable effort to make prompt, sanitary, safe and proper medical care available to you. However, if at anytime or anywhere treatments of any sort are suggested to you that do not meet your needs or expectations, you should not hesitate to contact your own doctor. Also, please note that the same sorts of activities that can expose you to certain types of diseases at home can just as easily expose you to those same diseases abroad. This information is provided only for your convenience and we are not responsible or liable for any damages resulting from your failure to confirm or ascertain health information or medical precaution, if any, for the places which you will be visiting. (ix) Contiki is responsible for taking care to arrange and conduct your vacation properly. With you in mind, we have accepted applications from and interviewed numerous potential employees, and then we select only those people whom we believe in our best judgement would be responsible and congenial, Tour Managers, Representatives and Drivers. Although we firmly believe, based on personal interviews and certain disclosures made to us by our employees, that all of our employees enjoy excellent health, we, like other tour operators, are legally unable to confirm this in most, if not all, instances.
