Patty Cason is a family nurse practitioner. She has practiced for 35 years in a wide variety of clinical settings and is an Assistant Clinical Professor and guest lecturer at the UCLA School of Nursing. She is contracted with numerous governmental and training agencies. Her other publications include nationally utilized clinical protocols and on-line learning courses, manuals on provision of sexual and reproductive health services and articles in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease and Emergency Physicians Monthly.

Michael Policar, MD

Michael Policar, MD, MPH, currently serves as a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, and Medical Director of UCSF Program Support and Evaluation for the Family PACT Program. Dr. Policar is a senior author of the textbook Contraceptive Technology. He currently serves on expert advisory panels of the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Office of Population Affairs that are developing national clinical practice guidelines for contraceptive management and is an appointed member of the California Breast and Cervical Cancer Advisory Council.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE PRECONFERENCE A: Adolescent Health with Emphasis on Sexual and Reproductive Health

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that 41% of young people have sexual intercourse and many of them will engage in sexual risk behaviors that can result in unintended health outcomes, such as avoiding the use of contraception or abuse of drugs and alcohol. This conference provides a view on the issues that adolescents face while dealing with their sexual and reproductive health and how to diagnose and treat the clinical challenges this group of patients may encounter. During this product training, attendees will receive hands-on training for insertion and removal procedures as well as implant localization techniques. Completion of this course will allow product ordering from authorized distributors. The training is open to advanced practice clinicians with furnishing numbers or prescribing privileges in their state and to physicians only. This is a sponsored session by Merck and Co., and does not offer credits for continuing education credit. It is the sponsor’s policy to verify all clinicians’ practice, license and eligibility information in advance of the training.
