Abril Ramos grew up in Monterrey, Mexico and studied fashion design there at the Instituto de Moda Burgo of Milan, Italy. And, like many Norteñas, she came to the Valley on frequent shopping visits before moving permanently to the McAllen area in May of this year.

Beauty Bars are popping up around the world for professional women on the go. So what’s it all about?

We asked our November Covergirl Abril Ramos of Beauty Bar in McAllen.

Abril has traveled extensively in Europe and discovered a popular form of beauty service establishment now called the Beauty Bar while in Paris on a recent trip. The idea is that of a beauty salon that focuses on rapid, high quality personalized service for the busy, no nonsense type of woman who is often on the go and has no time to schedule in appointments.

Here at her Beauty Bar in McAllen at the corner of S. 10th Street and Hackberry Abril’s staff is setup and ready to handle walk-ins, and not like she is doing anyone any favors to get it done on the quick. Her business model is set up for fast reliable services like cuts, curls, blow drys, makeup, extensions, and air brush tanning. Abril recently added And, it seems to be catching a lot of interest in other fashion hot spots like Los Angels and in New York as multi-tasking women who don’t have time to wait are starting to realize the value of express services, as they simply get busier, time management becomes more critical.

Beauty Bar is nicely designed and is patterned to look like a boutique salon that you might find along the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France.

Soft pastels surface the antique walls that are decorated with period French artwork. But, Abril explored a bit of an eclectic theme with contrasting traditional and contemporary furnishings that induce an authentic french feelings about the place to further enhance the experience.

Call-In Order (956) 580-2220 Sarah Jean Sagredo Hammond has three lovely daughters: Zephora Bordeau - 8 months, Scarlett Vitalia 3 years, and Jesslyn Juliet 12 years who you will see modeling in this issue for John Michael’s on page 31. Jesslyn is the current Miss RGV Pre-Teen for DebiLou Productions. Sarah’s husband, Marty Hammond, was head coach for the Dorado’s and head coach for the Alabama Hammers (both Arena Football teams), and he now serves as a quarterback coach for Edinburg North.

Sarah is the president of Atlas Electrical & Air Conditioning Services, Inc., a family operated contractor that has been in business for over 30 years, and was originally started by her parents whom were originally migrant workers.

They sacrificed and helped create a strong family business that still carries on today. Roy Sagredo Jr. is Sarah’s brother and VP. He has been working in the sales, design and engineering department of the business since he was twelve years old.

Because it has been well supported by the community over the years, Atlas feels a strong need to show their appreciation by supporting community efforts. Sarah sits on several boards, chairs committees, and is a member of numerous business and non profit organizations including: secretary of the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce, secretary for H.E.A.T, Chair for the Young Executive Society. Vice-Chair for the Organization of Women Executives, advisory board member for the UTPA Alumni Assocation, advisory board member for the Womans Business Center, Board member for the Alton Chamber of Commerce, a Diplomat for Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director for ACCA-RGV , Corporate representative for NHPO, Women's Committee Member for the RGV Hispanic Chamber, Member of Women in HVACR,, Gold Star Member of BBB, member of McAllen and Edinburg Chambers of Commerce.

More recently Hammond joined the Woman's Round Table - Meeting of the Minds that they commonly refer to as the WBC - Business View.

It is a non profit that supports, educates and helps create business oppportunities in the Rio Grande Valley. In the last 3 months alone, they have helped women acquire over 1 million dollars in loans for their start up businesses.

In the WBC’s endeavor to support business startups, they created a series of Video Presentations called WBC: THE EDGE and plan to host at least one each week. The WBC will begin releasing 15 to 20 minute episodes on a topic that speaks to the heart of business owners and woman who are looking to start a business by providing tips and empowering them with the knowledge on how to do it. Sarah points out, “We are super excited about this new endeavor here in the RGV and the women that will be helped throughout our area.”
