Source: Grants Pass Police Department
GRANTS PASS, OR — A coordinated operation between the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) team and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Medford Office resulted in a significant drug bust on Thursday, April 18th. Around 9:00 AM, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant in the 1800 block of NW Burns Ave. in Grants Pass, Oregon, unearthing a trove of illicit substances and illegal firearms.
The search yielded a startling discovery: approximately four pounds of fentanyl, valued at a substantial sum, alongside suspected illegal drug proceeds totaling approximately $35,000 in U.S. currency. Furthermore, officers uncovered thirteen firearms, with three confirmed as stolen, further underlining the seriousness of the operation. Additional illicit substances seized included over 12 ounces of methamphetamine, an ounce of cocaine, an ounce of Psilocybin mushrooms, and various other controlled substances.
In connection with the bust, two individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Josephine County Jail. Brandon Ruppel, 47, and Laura Berry, 52, face charges including possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, drug crimes within proximity of a school, and felonious possession of firearms. Meanwhile, Jason Ruppel, 50, another occupant of the residence, was cited and released on multiple drug-related charges and firearms offenses.
The success of this operation underscores the effectiveness of the RADE team, a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force dedicated to identifying, disrupting, and dismantling drug trafficking organizations. Utilizing an intelligence-driven, multi-agen-

cy approach supported by prosecutors, RADE targets local, multi-state, and international drug networks. The team comprises members from various law enforcement agencies, including the Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Police Department, Josephine County Community Corrections, and the Josephine County District Attorney's Office.
The RADE team operates under the umbrella of the Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, sponsored by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). This program coordinates with and allocates funding to support multi-agency drug enforcement initiatives like RADE, enhancing their capacity to combat drug trafficking at all levels.
As of now, no further information regarding the operation has been made available.

Aid bills for Ukraine and Israel
By: James JusticeWASHINGTON, DC — In a significant move towards providing crucial aid to Ukraine and Israel, the House voted 316-94 to advance votes on four separate bills. This development signals a positive step forward after months of delay and partisan discord over funding for these two countries.
Speaker Mike Johnson faced staunch opposition from right-wing members but received essential support from Democrats to push forward with the votes. Notably, more Democrats (165) than Republicans (151) voted in favor of passing the procedural step known as the "rule," which sets the stage for the upcoming votes.

Oregon's trailblazing role in cannabis legalization
From 420 celebrations to a model for the futureBy: William Allen
Yesterday, April 20th, marked the annual celebration of "420," a day observed by marijuana enthusiasts around the world. While the origins of 420 are shrouded in myth and speculation, the significance of the date as a cultural phenomenon cannot be understated. In Oregon, where marijuana has been legalized for both medical and recreational use, the occasion was met with widespread celebrations and reflection on the state's role in shaping the landscape of cannabis legalization.
The history of 420 traces back to the early 1970s, when a group of high school students in California allegedly coined the term as code language for meeting at 4:20 PM to search for a rumored hidden cannabis crop. Over time, the phrase evolved into a symbol of cannabis culture, embraced by enthusiasts worldwide as a day to celebrate and advocate for marijuana legalization. While its exact origins remain disputed, the spirit of 420 as a day of solidarity among cannabis advocates is widely recognized.
In Oregon, the journey towards marijuana legalization began in 1994 when the state became the first in the United States to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of cannabis. This marked a significant shift in drug policy, signaling a departure from the punitive approach of the past towards a more progressive stance on drug enforcement.
Building on this momentum, Oregon took another historic step in 1998 when it legalized medical marijuana through the passage of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act. This groundbreaking legislation allowed patients with quali-

fying medical conditions to access cannabis for therapeutic purposes, laying the groundwork for future efforts to expand access to medical cannabis nationwide.
Fast forward to 2014, when Oregon voters made history once again by approving Measure 91, which legalized recreational marijuana for adults aged 21 and older. The passage of Measure 91 made Oregon one of the first states to legalize recreational cannabis through a voter initiative, joining the ranks of Colorado and Washington in pioneering a new era of cannabis regulation.
Since then, Oregon's cannabis industry has flourished, generating millions of dollars in tax revenue and creating thousands of jobs. The state's progressive approach to cannabis regulation has served as a model for other states grappling with the issue of legalization, inspiring a wave of legislative reforms across the country.
Looking ahead, the future of marijuana legalization in Oregon and beyond appears promising. With public support for cannabis legalization at an all-time high and growing recognition of the therapeutic potential of medical marijuana, momentum continues to build towards broader acceptance of cannabis as a legitimate form of medicine.
As other states look towards the future of marijuana legalization, Oregon stands as a testament to the transformative power of progressive drug policy. By embracing innovation, compassion, and evidence-based approaches to cannabis regulation, Oregon has helped pave the way for a more enlightened approach to drug policy nationwide. As the movement for marijuana legalization gains momentum, the legacy of Oregon's pioneering efforts will continue to shape the future of cannabis regulation for years to come.

House votes to advance aid bills for Ukraine and Israel amid partisan divide
From page 1
The four House votes, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, encompass aid packages for Israel and Ukraine, as well as measures addressing Indo-Pacific security and national security priorities, including a bill targeting TikTok's operations in the U.S. The passage of these measures would lead to their consolidation and transmission to the Democratic-controlled Senate.
These foreign aid measures closely resemble the $95 billion national security package advocated by President Joe Biden, albeit with some differences that necessitate Senate reapproval. The House's decision to advance these bills followed a 9-3 vote in the Rules Committee late Thursday, with Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), Chip Roy (R-Texas), and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) voting against it. Notably, all four Democrats on the committee voted for the rule, a departure from typical minority party behavior.
Johnson's determination to move forward with the aid bills comes amidst internal challenges, with some members threatening to oust him as speaker. Despite opposition from House conservatives, including Reps. Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Johnson remains steadfast in his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities.
Johnson's evolving stance on Ukraine aid, from opposition last year to current support, reflects a shift informed by intelligence briefings and assessments. Additionally, the inclusion of a provision in the fourth bill targeting TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, underscores bipartisan concerns about national security risks posed by the Chinese-owned platform.
Democrats lauded the decision to proceed with House votes, emphasizing their party's pivotal role in advancing these critical aid packages.

Navigating the modern landscape of bullying
Strategies for today's parents
By: Ellen WardBullying, an age-old problem that has plagued schoolyards for generations, continues to be a concerning issue in today's society. As a friend reached out seeking advice about her son's experience with bullying at school, it became apparent that the tactics and strategies employed in the past may no longer suffice in addressing this complex problem.
The landscape of bullying has evolved significantly since the 1970s, necessitating a reevaluation of how parents and educators approach this issue. Gone are the days of simply "toughening up" or "fighting back." Instead, a more nuanced and proactive approach is required to address the root causes and effects of bullying.
One of the key differences in tackling bullying today is the emphasis on prevention and intervention. Rather than waiting for incidents to occur, schools and communities are implementing proactive measures to create safe and inclusive environments for all students. This includes promoting empathy, teaching conflict resolution skills, and fostering a culture of respect and acceptance.
Technology has introduced new avenues for bullying, such as

cyberbullying, which extends beyond the confines of the schoolyard. Parents and educators must be vigilant in monitoring online interactions and educating children about responsible digital citizenship. Open communication and establishing trust with children are crucial in addressing cyberbullying effectively.
Another shift in perspective involves empowering victims of bullying to speak out and seek support. Encouraging children to report incidents of bullying, whether to parents, teachers, or school administrators, helps to break the cycle of silence and fosters a sense of accountability among perpetrators.
Addressing the underlying factors that contribute to bullying behavior is essential in creating lasting change. This may involve addressing issues of social hierarchy, peer pressure, or underlying mental health issues. By promoting empathy and understanding, schools can create a more inclusive environment where differences are celebrated rather than exploited.
In navigating the modern landscape of bullying, it's important for parents to equip their children with resilience and coping skills. Teaching children to assert boundaries, seek help when needed, and develop a strong support network can empower them to navigate challenging situations with confidence.

The health benefits of CBD antiaging moisturizers for seniors
BY: LEAF BARRETIN KEEPING WITH THE SPIRIT of '420', often associated with cannabis culture, it's essential to shine a light on the often-overlooked benefits of CBD. As the pursuit of effective anti-aging solutions continues, an increasing number of individuals are turning to CBDinfused skin moisturizers, such as JAXON, for their potential healing properties. Particularly for seniors keen on maintaining healthy skin as they age, these products are emerging as a promising addition to their skincare regimens.
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, its counterpart known for inducing a "high," CBD offers various therapeutic applications, including skincare. It is believed to interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, regulating processes such as inflammation, pain perception, and skin health.
The key benefit of CBD skincare products, like JAXON moisturizers, lies in their ability to address common skin issues associated with aging. As individuals age, their skin undergoes natural changes, including decreased collagen production, reduced elasticity, and increased dryness, which can lead to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.
CBD moisturizers provide a comprehensive approach to skincare by simultaneously addressing multiple concerns. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties,
CBD can reduce redness, swelling, and irritation, making it suitable for sensitive or inflamed skin. Additionally, CBD is rich in antioxidants, which combat oxidative stress caused by free radicals and environmental factors, promoting healthier, more youthful-looking skin.
For seniors suffering with chronic skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis, JAXON CBD moisturizers may offer much-needed relief. Research suggests that CBD's anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties can soothe itching, redness, and discomfort associated with these conditions, enhancing overall skin comfort and quality of life.
JAXON CBD skincare products are often formulated with additional botanical extracts and essential oils known for their nourishing and hydrating properties. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and vitamin E complement CBD's benefits, locking in moisture, restoring skin barrier function, and promoting a smoother, more radiant complexion.
As seniors increasingly prioritize self-care and holistic wellness approaches, JAXON CBD skincare offers a natural, gentle alternative to traditional anti-aging treatments. With their potential to address multiple skin concerns while providing therapeutic benefits, CBDinfused moisturizers are poised to become an essential part of the skincare routines of individuals seeking to maintain healthy and vibrant skin as they age.
