Paisan@s y amig@s del Consulado General de México en Houston, Me complace dirigirme a ustedes en esta nueva versión de nuestra revista consular "México en Houston", a través de cuyas imágenes espero se reconozcan como parte esencial de nuestro quehacer cotidiano en el primer trimestre de 2021.

Desde convertirnos en la primera representación en el exterior en ofrecer pruebas COVID-19 para toda la comunidad del área de Houston hasta asegurarnos de acercar nuestros servicios consulares a donde antes no habíamos llegado hasta o alcanzar los estándares oro de certificación de la “Norma Mexicana NMX-R-025 en Igualdad Laboral y No Discriminación”, el Consulado General de México en Houston se caracteriza por su innovación, dinamismo y versatilidad.

El recuento gráfico en estas páginas abarcando los meses de enero a marzo de 2021 es un esfuerzo más por mantenernos siempre cerca de ustedes, reiterando nuestro compromiso con la transparencia, al igual que nuestra responsabilidad con una comunidad activa, fuertes aliados estratégicos y gente dedicada a servir a nuestro país.

Friends of the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, I am pleased to address you in this new version of our consular magazine "Mexico in Houston", through which images I hope you will recognize yourselves as an essential part of our daily work in the first quarter of 2021.

From taking our consular services to where we had not gone before to becoming the first representation of Mexico abroad to offer COVID-19 tests for the entire Houston area community or to reach the gold certification standards of the “Mexican Standard NMX- R-025 on Labor Equality and Non-Discrimination ”, the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston is characterized by its innovation, dynamism and versatility.

The images in these pages covering the months of January to March 2021 is yet another effort to remain close to you, reiterating our commitment to transparency, as well as our responsibility with an active community, strong strategic allies and people dedicated to serve our country.

DOCUMENTACIÓN A MEXICANOS, REGISTRO CIVIL Y VISAS / MEXICAN DOCUMENTATION, CIVIL REGISTRY AND VISAS El ejercicio consular es la obligación de velar por los derechos e intereses de nuestra comunidad mexicana en el exterior. Para ello, en el Consulado General de México en Houston ponemos una amplia red de servicios a disposición de más de dos millones de mexicanos para favorecer su desarrollo sostenido y la superación de cualquier obstáculo.

Con nuestro Consulado Sobre Ruedas, jornadas sabatinas y dominicales, y jornadas de credencialización, hemos estado presentes en diferentes momentos fundamentales en la vida de quienes forman parte de los 37 condados de nuestra circunscripción. Ya sea registrando por primera vez a los recién nacidos u otorgando visas para que extranjeros radiquen o trabajen en México, nuestros servicios nos permiten llegar aún más lejos y estar más cerca de nuestra comunidad, sin importar su edad o donde se encuentre.

Consular exercise is the obligation to safeguard the rights and interests of our Mexican community abroad. To this end, at the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston we have a wide range of services available to more than two million Mexicans in order to contribute to their sustained development and help them overcome any obstacle.

With our Consulate on Wheels together with weekend documentation and I.D. services we have been present at different fundamental moments in the lives of those who are part of the 37 counties we serve.

Whether it is registering newborns for the first time or granting visas for foreigners to reside or work in Mexico, our services allow us to go even further and be closer to our community, regardless of thier age or where they are.

Al adoptar la atención a los mexicanos en el exterior como eje transversal, sostenemos que la documentación es el primer paso para la protección de nuestra comunidad. Por ello, diariamente en sala ofrecemos pláticas sobre el resto de nuestros servicios ofrecidos por nuestro Departamento de Protección, al igual que por las ventanillas de salud, educación y asesoría financiera.

By adopting the care of Mexicans abroad as a transversal axis, we maintain that documentation is the first step for the protection of our community. Therefore, daily in the room we offer talks about the rest of our services offered by our Protection Department, as well as through the health, education and financial advisory windows.

Thus, with documents such as the passport or the consular I.D., recognized by local authorities as official identification, the nearly 20,000 people we serve monthly regain a sense of belonging and security that allows them to advance satisfactorily in the fulfillment of their personal, financial and profesional goals.

En el marco de las acciones emprendidas por la Cancillería para la modernización de los procedimientos consulares en favor de la población LGBTTTIQ, en las áreas de documentación, registro civil y visas reiteramos nuestro compromiso con la igualdad atendiendo y facilitando procesos para que todas las personas de nuestra comunidad ejerzan su derecho a la identidad. Así, con documentos como el pasaporte o la matrícula consular, reconocida por las autoridades locales como identificación oficial, las cerca de 20,000 personas a las que servimos mensualmente recobran un sentido de pertenencia y seguridad que les permite avanzar satisfactoriamente en el cumplimiento de sus metas personales, financieras y profesionales.

In response to the actions undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the modernization of consular procedures in favor of the LGBTTTIQ population, in the areas of documentation, civil registry and visas we reiterate our commitment to equality, assisting and facilitating processes so that all persons from our community exercise their right to identity. Thus, with documents such as the passport or the consular I.D., recognized by local authorities as an official identification, the nearly 20,000 people we serve monthly regain a sense of belonging and security that allows them to advance in the fulfillment of their personal, financial and professional goals.

PROTECCIÓN Y ASUNTOS LEGALES / PROTECTION AND LEGAL MATTERS En el Consulado General de México en Houston estamos comprometidos a atender a nuestra comunidad con servicios integrales. Un pasaporte o una matrícula son sólo el principio de la estrecha relación que buscamos entablar con quienes habitan en los 37 condados de nuestra gran circunscripción. Por eso, establecemos reuniones periódicas al interior de la Cancillería al igual que con organizaciones aliadas de reconocida trayectoria para identificar y enferntar problemáticas que nos atañen como el tráfico ilícito de armas, la violencia doméstica, el tráfico humano, la diversidad y la inclusión, entre otras.

At the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston we are committed to offer our community comprehensive services. A passport or consular I.D. are only the beginning of the close relationship that we seek to establish with those who live in the 37 counties we serve. For this reason, we establish periodic meetings within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as with allied organizations of recognized trajectory to identify and develop solutions to problems such as illicit arms trafficking, domestic violence, human trafficking, diversity and inclusion, amongst others.

During the first three months of 2021 we have continued strengthening important established networks and, in addition, we continue to innovate in giving workshops, disseminating information and raising awareness about the available legal resources that we have, including the initiatives Migration Wednesdays and Dreamers Workshops. For this, the participation of our entire community has been and will continue to be essential.

En los primeros tres meses de 2021 hemos continuado el fortalecimiento de las importantes redes establecidas y, además, seguimos innovando en la impartición de talleres, difusión de información y concientización sobre los recursos legales disponibles con los que contamos, incluyendo las iniciativas de Miércoles de Migración y los talleres para jóvenes DACA. Para esto, la participación de toda nuestra comunidad ha sido y seguirá siendo indispensable.

Por convertido en el primer Consulado de México en Estados Unidos en ofrecer pruebas COVID, no hemos bajado la guardia. El 6 de marzo sostuvimos nuestra primera jornada de vacunación COVID en alianza con la ciudad de Houston y desde entonces el 11 de marzo también conmemoramos un año de servir a toda la comunidad de Houston y unir esfuerzos para vencer la pandemia y hemos renovado nuestra alianza con FLAS, la agencia fiscal de nuestra Ventanilla de Salud.

A healthier community is a stronger one. That’s why, after having become the first Mexican Consulate in the United States to offer COVID tests, we have not stopped innovating. On March 6th we held our first COVID vaccination day in partnership with the city of Houston and since then, on March 11 we also commemorated a year of serving the entire Houston community as well as joining forces to defeat the pandemic and we have renewed our alliance with FLAS, the fiscal agency of our Health Window.

DÍA INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER / INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY A partir de la adopción de la Política Exterior Feminista, una de las metas más importantes para la Cancillería y sus representaciones en el exterior es continuar trabajando por la igualdad de género.

El Consulado General de México en Houston está comprometido de pasar del discurso a la práctica con acciones como la creciente atención de la VAIM, incluyendo su presencia frecuente en los Consulados Sobre Ruedas, al igual que el habernos convertido en la primera representación fuera de México en alcanzar los estándares de certificación de la Norma Mexicana NMX-R-025 en Igualdad Laboral y No Discriminación. Así, para conmemorar el Día Internacional de la Mujer la semana del 8 de marzo llevamos a cabo una serie de acciones puntuales para reafirmar nuestro compromiso con la presencia de las mujeres en todos los espacios de la sociedad.

After adopting a Feminist Foreign Policy, one of the most important goals for the Foreign Ministry and its representations abroad is to continue working for gender equality. The Consulate General of Mexico in Houston is committed to turning words into actions like growing attention from the VAIM, including its frequent presence at Consulates On Wheels, as well as having become the first representation outside of Mexico to achieve the certification of the Mexican Standard NMX-R-025 on Labor Equality and Non-Discrimination. Thus, to commemorate International Women's Day the week of March 8th we carried out a series of specific actions to reaffirm our commitment to having women in all areas of society.
