Kenworth recently delivered its 10,000th T680 Next Generation. The milestone truck was presented to System Transport at the company’s 50th anniversary celebration in Spokane, Wash.
The T680 Next Generation equipped with a 76-in. mid-roof sleeper was built by the employees at the Kenworth assembly plant in Chillicothe, Ohio.
“This is a special moment for Kenworth and Kenworth Sales Company — Spokane as we deliver the 10,000th T680 Next Generation just 15 months after product launch to System Transport in celebration of its 50th anniversary. We thank System Transport — and all our T680 Next Gen customers — for their business,” said Hank Johnson, Kenworth general sales manager — West and medium duty.
Johnson and Doug Powell, Kenworth director of fleet management, presented a special plaque to the company’s management. Also representing Kenworth was Brandon Singh (connected services marketing manager).
“It is an honor for System Transport to be selected to receive Kenworth’s 10,000th T680 Next Generation,” said Jim Williams, founder and chairman of TransSystem, the parent company of System Transport. “We have purchased Kenworth trucks from our Kenworth dealer in Spokane for more than 30 years and have ordered more than 60 T680 Next Gen trucks so far.”
System Transport hauls all types of flatbed freight, primarily throughout the West Coast to the Midwest. Last year, System Transport was selected to transport the 2021 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree from the Six Rivers National Forest in California to Washington, D.C. A team of its drivers used a T680 Next Gen 76-in. mid-roof sleeper to successfully complete the special 3,300-mi. haul.
During the ceremony, Williams was joined by Trans-System executives Dennis Williams (CEO/president); Rob Heskett (COO); Taylor Varley (CFO); Cory Staheli (CIO); Martin Singh (VP of maintenance and procurement); and Chuck Perry (risk manager).
“We have maintained an excellent partnership with System Transport throughout the decades. On behalf of Kenworth Sales Company and all our employees, we congratulate System Transport on its 50th anniversary,” said Kyle Treadway, president of Kenworth Sales Company, a Kenworth dealer since 1945 — the longest tenure in the Kenworth dealer network.
During the event, Treadway presented System Transport with a very special anniversary gift — a refurbished and fully operational 1965 Kenworth W900.
Kenworth Sales Company also was represented by Trevor Pasmann (corporate sales director), while Kenworth Sales Company — Spokane participants included Wayne Beal, Spokane district manager; Ric Petersen, district manager (retired); Chris McDevitt, district sales manager; and Rick French, truck sales representative.
The Kenworth T680 Next Gen establishes a new industry standard by raising the bar for superior fuel efficiency, class-leading performance and bold aerodynamic styling — expanding on the success of the classic Kenworth T680 model and taking The Driver’s Truck to the next level, according to the manufacturer.
The T680 Next Gen offers technology advancements, including an innovative 15-in. digital display, Next Gen SmartWheel, fully LED headlamps, under-the-vehicle airflow management, additional advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and a sleek high-tech design that balances aerodynamics and serviceability.
Available in day cab, 40-in., 52in. and 76-in. sleeper configurations, the T680 Next Gen is standard with the proprietary PACCAR Powertrain featuring the PACCAR MX-13 engine, PACCAR TX-12 automated transmission and PACCAR DX-40 drive axle.

Allison Transmission, a global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions for commercial and defense vehicles, announced that Mack Trucks has expanded its product portfolio to offer Allison’s 3000 rugged duty series (RDS) transmission for the Mack Class 6 and Class 7 MD truck series.
The Allison 3000 RDS is now available to order on the Mack MD series.
In addition to the Allison 2500 highway series transmission, which is the standard transmission on Mack’s MD series, and the 2500 rugged duty series, which is optional, Mack is now offering a third transmission option on the MD series. Mack has added the Allison 3000 RDS option for heavier-duty applications that require increased power and vehicle weight ratings.
Mack’s MD series trucks with an Allison 3000 RDS will feature a 33,000 lb. gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), expanding the MD series addressable market to vocational customers in applications such as refuse, recycling, propane and construction.
The Allison 3000 Series also will enable Mack MD series customers to pull trailers up to a gross combined vehicle weight rating (GCVW) of 45,000 lbs. The 3000 RDS also provides customers with Allison’s live power take-off (PTO) feature, which delivers uninterrupted power for higher vehicle efficiency and improved ease of operation.
Like Allison’s 2500 series transmission, the 3000 series will be paired with a Cummins B6.7 engine.
“Allison is proud to partner with Mack Trucks to provide our customers with a robust transmission option designed to deliver the optimum blend of power and performance that drivers demand, combined with the proven reliability and durability that our customers know and expect from our fully automatic transmissions,” said Rohan Barua, vice president, North America sales, global channel and aftermarket at Allison Transmission.
“The increased ratings enabled by our 3000 series transmission will increase the MD series addressable market by approximately 25,000 vehicles annually, expanding vehicle options for Mack’s customers and adding breadth of applications to the company’s medium-duty portfolio.”
The Mack MD series vehicles equipped with the Allison 3000 RDS transmission are expected to enter into production in July 2022. In the coming months, the transmissions installed in Mack MD series trucks also will include Allison’s new next generation electronic controls platform, featuring additional capabilities including advanced communications, functional safety and cybersecurity and over-the-air programming.

Battle Motors Picks T-Mobile to Connect New Software
T-Mobile announced on May 9 that Battle Motors has selected the Un-carrier as the preferred provider of IoT connectivity and management for thousands of new Battle Motors battery electric trucks rolling off the Ohio-based production line. These trucks are getting smarter, due to Battle Motors’ all new factory installed RevolutionOS EV software, according to the company.
Like consumer automotive, the commercial truck industry is moving swiftly to embrace EV technology. RevolutionOS, powered by T-Mobile’s nationwide network, delivers actionable data and information to drivers and fleet managers that they can use to enhance efficiency, safety and security, according to T-Mobile.
As part of this long-term agreement, TMobile for Business will deliver 4G LTE connectivity to Battle Motors trucks for near real-time sharing of battery range and usage information; historic and near real-time location and trip data; timely preventative maintenance warnings; over-the-air software and firmware updates; and the truck’s full bill of materials, such as VIN-specific information, parts and manuals.
Every new Battle Motors class seven and class eight heavy-duty EV truck — like those that haul garbage, dirt and freight — will come with a factory installed, ruggedized digital instrument cluster that runs RevolutionOS. The power and reliability of T-Mobile's nationwide network, Battle Motors’ RevolutionOS, will let customers view and update critical information directly from the truck, or remotely from a desktop computer or mobile device, just by scanning a QR code.
Additionally, T-Mobile Control Center will give Battle Motors the ability to view and manage the connectivity of their trucks. Battle Motors can easily accelerate deployment of their growing line of trucks with the automation and provisioning capabilities of T-Mobile’s IoT platform. Battle Motors will have near real-time visibility to all its commercial trucks with the ability to monitor network conditions and device behavior with T-Mobile Control Center.
In the near future, Battle Motors expects to leverage the Un-carrier’s 5G network to meet industrial-sized challenges for years to come as their trucks’ capabilities advance and the demands on connectivity increase. TMobile is poised to push IoT to its full potential and catapult adoption — paving the way for new electric vehicle applications that rely on low-latency, high-speed data, and realtime location and proximity-based services.
“Our primary focus has been on driving technology and innovation that gives our customers value and peace-of-mind when it comes to maintenance, efficiency, safety and compliance,” said Battle Motors CSO Paul Marsolan. “Together with T-Mobile, we’re able to merge analytics and operations to put rich, real-time decision-making data to work for our customers.”
“While we continue to grow our business market share, it energizes us to work with forward thinking companies that demonstrate leadership in areas like sustainable commercial transportation,” said Callie Field, president, T-Mobile Business Group. “Reliable connectivity, management and support is central to Battle Motors’ mission, and we’re honored that they entrusted their trucks and their customers to T-Mobile for Business.”

Navistar Standardizes Telematic Devices On Class 6-8 Vehicles
Navistar solidifies its commitment to a connected and data-driven future with the standardization of a factory-installed telematics device on all new builds of the complete Class 6-8 International Truck and IC Bus vehicle product portfolios, including electric models.
This allows all stakeholders access to actionable vehicle data, enhanced capabilities with industry partners and further improved integration for upfitting capabilities with truck equipment manufacturers (TEMs).
The factory-installed and warranted telematics device broadcasts data to OnCommand Connection, Navistar’s connected services platform, which aggregates vehicle health and performance data and turns that into actionable information. OnCommand Connection has more than 30 telematics partner integrations that allow for the platform’s unique open architecture to integrate with all makes and models of vehicles on the market.
“Our goal is to provide a seamless customer experience,” said Scott Renier, VP and general manager, Connected Services and Analytics. “We first made OnCommand Connection standard on our Class 8 on-highway vehicles in 2018, providing those customers access to a full suite of connected products that help to improve uptime and lower their total cost of ownership. Extending the technology to all Class 6-8 International vehicles means we can now provide that same valuable service to all customers, regardless of fleet type or size.”
The standard OnCommand Connection service package provides customers access to the following: • Over-the-air programming vehicle software updates for approved engine calibrations and performance parameter updates to improve customer uptime by keeping vehicles on the road • Vehicle health monitoring that can help identify issues and allow customers to take the appropriate action • GPS and geofencing functionality that allows for asset tracking and protection • Access to the International 360 service communications platform that streamlines the service scheduling process and allows customers to customize routine maintenance intervals based on vehicle usage.
The data insights gathered are viewable through the OnCommand Connection and the International 360 portal via desktop or tablet, and will be available through a mobile phone app to be released later this year. The app will make the technology more accessible to smaller customers across all market segments.
“Traditionally, people think connectivity and data analytics are only for big, over-theroad fleets,” said Mark Stasell, VP, Vocational Trucks. “That’s not the case. Navistar believes connected technologies benefit everyone. Connectivity is our future — it will drive numerous innovations near and longer term. There’s invaluable benefit to making data available to customers of all sizes and across all market segments.”
The factory-installed telematics device is covered through a nationwide warranty and includes a five-year subscription to OnCommand Connection, providing customers access to actionable data and streamlined subscription services with Navistar’s gateway integration partners.
