Crow drugs offers more than prescriptions

A rich history of service to the healthcare needs of Jacksonville and the surrounding communities has helped Crow Drug remain a mainstay in the Jacksonville business community since its inception in 1935.

“All the Health Mart pharmacies are still independently owned. It doesn’t change any of the day to day operations, it just allows us to pool our advertising dollars and have better buying power with the drug companies so we can have better pricing,” said Kathy.

Residents should ‘Shop Jacksonville First’ The City of Jacksonville recognizes the significant impact of the business community on its continued success and growth.

Municipalities in the state of Alabama rely on sales tax revenues generated by local businesses for the majority of their funds.

Therefore, future prosperity for the city is directly tied to the success of our local businesses and industries as well as to Jacksonville’s ability to attract new businesses and industries and help existing businesses stay viable and grow.

Another important factor is the mutually beneficial impact of citizens shopping at businesses within Jacksonville’s corporate limits.

The Jacksonville Merchants Association has been instrumental in encouraging residents to “shop Jacksonville,” and in sponsoring, or helping to sponsor, events that draw citizens to Jacksonville, particularly in the downtown area.

Jacksonville Bookstore celebrates 45 years of service; new location

In 1966, Jacksonville Bookstore opened its doors for the first time. Last year, the bookstore moved to its new location on 302 Mountain Street Northwest, across from the Jacksonville State University stadium.

The new location has provided customers with easier access better parking.

Piedmont Health Care Center

For more than 30 years Piedmont Health Care Center, the award-winning long-term healthcare and rehabilitation center located at 31 Roundtree Drive, has cared for the people of our community.

When you walk into The Taming of the Ewe, the first thing you will notice is yarn, everywhere.

The yarns run from the basic wools, cottons and acrylics to the more unusual, alpaca, silk, bamboo and even yarns made from soybeans, corn and jade. The second thing you will see most days is a table full of knitters and crocheters, laughing and talking and generally having a good time. Crafters come from as far away as Rome and Mobile to get a chance to see and feel the store’s wide variety of yarns, needles, patterns, magazines and books and to just hang out.

Customers range from home schoolers and other young people learning to knit to experienced knitters in their 90s. Recently one of the fastest growing groups is women who have just retired and are looking for a hobby that gives them a feeling of accomplishment. samples and entertaining the other knitters and crocheters at the store’s weekly Tuesday night Knit Night. People who wander in to see what the store is about often walk out having learned to knit or crochet. The store prides itself on teaching knitting, crocheting, spinning and tatting for free.

The store is active in the community hosting “Knittin’ for Kittens” and other events for the Anniston Animal Shelter. In May, the store is hosting “Knit in Public Day” in Jacksonville.

Saturday afternoons there are a variety of special free classes. The store posts the class calendar on its Facebook page and on its Ravelry.com forum.
