Keeping you in the loop Head teacher’s update Dear Parents / Carers, I am delighted to welcome you back to the final half term of this academic year. The students have been working incredibly hard and the exam season has got off to a really positive start. Our girls sit their GCSE English Literature paper in Year 10, a year earlier than in most schools. It is a great opportunity for the younger girls to experience what sitting their GCSEs is like and also allows them to focus on one GCSE, get this out of the way, in preparation for Year 11 when they will be sitting the other examinations. Well done to Year 10, 11 and the Sixth Form who have embraced their public examinations whole heartedly. Fingers crossed now as we await their results this summer. Over the last half term, I have been working as a consultant Headteacher at Chiswick school. This has been on a very part-time basis, offering support to the new acting Headteacher at the school. Chiswick school is a community school not so dissimilar to ours, but with the obvious addition of boys. Unfortunately the Headteacher resigned from the school at the end of March and they were unable to secure a new Headteacher, and approached Brentford to see if we could help them out. This has involved us being able to share what we have achieved as a school with another local school who are facing some challenges. Being asked to support Chiswick school as they move forward, is also a testament to us as a school community, that we are doing some really great work here with our students achieving outstanding results. When I am not in school, the school is being capably run by the senior leadership team, who are experienced, capable and very well placed to continue the good work of the school when I am not physically here. Please feel rest assured that I have no intention of relinquishing my role at Brentford school, a school that I love and am deeply committed too. As we move into the final half term of the school year, there are a number of community events taking place across June and July. The summer’s Art Exhibition, activities week, sports day and the Summer Fair. The final half term really is a celebration of our school community. If you are able too, please do join us at these events and celebrate with us. Thank you for all of the support that you have given to the school and the commitment that you have shown to your daughter’s education Enjoy the rest of the half term

Help your daughter remain organised • Help make a plan for what your daughter is going to do and when she is going to do it. • Create a revision timetable - plan it and stick to it. • The key is preparation - the more prepared your daughter feels, the less stressed she will be. • Enable them to work at home without distraction. • Put away the phone. • Turn off the music. • Turn off the TV. • Create a space where your daughter can concentrate, avoid distractions and FOCUS. Ensure they get a break from study • Psychologists states that one can only concentrate properly for about forty five minutes at a stretch. • Let you daughter decide when and where she works best. • Ensure she is getting enough sleep. • Gentle repetitive exercise, such as walking, swimming or cycling are good to relieve stress. Food for the brain • What they eat matters to their brains: a pupil’s performance at school rises sharply if they’ve eaten breakfast. • Drinking is also important. Give them a big drink of water just before they go into school and a refillable bottle to take with them. • Provide snacks and lunch. Keep in contact • Remain in contact with the school. • Report any concerns. • Attend parents and subject evenings. • Support the school in supporting your daughter. • Ensure attendance and punctuality are excellent.

Best wishes,

behaviour update As always at Brentford, we remain focused on ensuring that each and every pupil reaches their full potential and has a positive school experience. We have reached the final half term of the academic year and it is pleasing to see the students maintaining the positive attitude they established in September. At this point of the year it is important that students maintain momentum in their studies as we reach the end of the school year, so here are some top tips on how to help your daughter stay motivated for the remainder.

The girls are really looking forward to this year’s Activities Week. On Tuesday 17th, Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th July your daughter will be involved in an activity on each day. We have activities running both in and out of school. If your daughter is on a trip you should have received a letter with a permission slip for you to sign. If this letter has been misplaced please ask your daughter to collect one from the main office. It is essential these are signed and returned. If your daughter is attending ‘Jump Giants’ or ‘Liquid Leisure’ a further waiver form will also be sent home. It is important these are read carefully and signed as well. Further letters will be sent home regarding the details of any trips your daughter will be on. Please read these letters carefully as they will contain vital information on the trip (return to school times, lunch options, clothing etc). If you are having issues with payment please contact Ms Lort in the finance office. Please also note that these are counted as school days and thus attendance each day is compulsory. Looking forward to a great week!
