Editor’s Page Waking up early and hunting for that Easter basket the Easter bunny filled with colored eggs and man, ALL those chocolate bunnies. It is amazing to me all that chocolate and junk food I ate as a kid.

Well I am 42 now and the way I remember Easter morning was the smell of mother’s cooking throughout the house all day long, only to get filled up on junk food, those darn chocolate bunnies, and of course those beautiful colored eggs we did the night before.

Oh how I miss that. The family would then start to show up one by one and gather together for dinner.

By 5pm we were so stuffed we couldnt move.

Remember those Easter egg hunts throughout the house on Easter morning?

Now days there are so many Easter egg hunts, I mean they are everywhere. There are so many things for the kiddos I figured I would publish a page for all you parents looking into what to do with the kiddos this year.

Or at Grandma’s house in the back yard maybe?

I hope you will all enjoy your holiday and let’s not forget the true meaning of Easter.

HELP AVOID THE THREAT OF TICKS!!!!

While the season’s warmer weather offers great opportunity for games of fetch with Fido, it also brings increased risk from exposure to pests, particularly ticks, fleas, mosquitoes and stinging insects. Safeguarding dogs and cats begins with discussions with your veterinarian, but in addition to prescribed healthcare repellents and preventatives, there are several things that can be done to make your yard inhospitable to the stinging, biting troublemakers. “Ticks are certainly one of the most concerning warm weather pests,” noted Missy Henriksen, vice president of public affairs for the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). Ticks are endemic with various species posing different health threats, such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, babesia and Lyme disease. Tick-borne illnesses generally present with lethargy, weakness, anemia and even organ failure. Henriksen suggests pet owners minimize the risk of ticks in yards by regularly trimming grass and other vegetation. As nuisance wildlife and rodents are common tick carriers, seal trash cans, remove brush piles and keep firewood two feet off of the ground to keep them away. Mosquitoes also pose health risks to dogs and cats as their bites can transmit heartworm, a parasitic roundworm that can infect a host and result in a potentially serious disease. To help keep these pests at bay, Henriksen advises homeowners to repair any torn screens and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds by removing standing water in the yard.

“Empty wading pools, toys, grill covers flower pots, clogged gutters and other places that tend to gather water.

Bird baths should be changed every week to keep water fresh,” Henriksen says. “Mosquitoes only need half an inch of stagnant water to develop from eggs to pupae to adult mosquitoes that can then live out of water, so a thorough check of the yard is essential.” Though fleas are tiny pests, they cause big problems. Not only can they infest an entire home quickly, flea saliva can cause anemia and dermatitis and transfer tapeworms to dogs and cats. Avoid walking dogs in tall grass where there is a greater chance of flea exposure, wash dogs after walks and puppy play dates, and launder bedding, collars and stuffed toys. Stinging insects are another potential problem for pets, especially if stung near the mouth or throat as this may cause swelling that can restrict breathing. Inspect the yard for evidence of hives or stinging insect colonies. If you see evidence of an infestation, contact a pest professional who can safely remove nests and control swarms. Pets One trend that has been on the increase in recent years is the adoption of pets and the development of spaces such as parks and dog walks for their recreation and coexistence with us humans. And for many people, once adopted, these pets become a member of the family and even receive more attention, affection, and care than other human beings! However, the accelerated growth of cities is reaching a point where it is necessary to have a rethink the adoption of pets. Our population is increasing, and we will be reaching a point where it will not be possible to give pets a decent life or outdoor spaces that are as convenient as we have today. So the solution could be in the adoption of pet robots (also robot pets or robotic pets).

What is a robotic pet?

A pet robot or robotic pet is an artificially intelligent (AI) machine, which has the shape of an animal usually kept just like a regular pet.

Presently, there are a variety of robotic pets, such as cats, dogs, and birds. In some cases, robotic pets may also include objects that are normally not considered as pets, such as Pleo, a simulation robotic dinosaur.

These robots often receive the same treatment as actual pets. In some cases, robot pets are being used to keep elderly people from depression and more active without all the challenges of a real pet. Examples of popular robot pets are Tekno, the Robotic Puppy; Paro, the cuddly seal robot; and AIBO (a new updated model is on the way) and a wide variety of cats, dogs and much more.

In a recent study published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science, an Australian researcher, Jean-Loup Rault suggests that robotics and virtual reality will be the mechanism that will replace the real pets in the future. As population growth and urbanization will not allow enough space and having a pet will be an unnecessary luxury. It is certainly a bold statement, as it has been demonstrated in many studies that having a pet helps improve interaction and development of various social mechanisms, as well as improving mood. New studies are unraveling pets’ power to heal. It remains to be seen if robot pets can achieve the same status. In Japan, there are some robot pet owners who hold funerals for their robotic dogs because they believe these pets have a soul. The idea behind The concern, however, is in our future as a society. Since human beings are developing and getting accustomed to interacting with machines, the sense of responsibility and care for a living being may be lost.

FISH & WILDLIFE Since April 2015, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has asked recreational anglers on the Gulf coast of Florida to sign up for the Gulf Reef Fish Survey.

Signing up is required to legally harvest red and vermilion snappers; gag, black and red groupers; gray triggerfish; and amberjack species. The surveys provide data to state and federal agencies that are responsible for managing reef fish and making decisions that impact recreational anglers.
