INTRODUCTION The following special collection of magical effects which can be performed under the conditions of Night Club, Banquets and similar shows where the spectators entirely surround the performer has been compiled at the cost of considerable time and labor culling over thousands of magical effects.

Though I have naturally acquired a considerable knowledge of magic effects during 22 years as a performer nlaying everything from my original start as a club and church performer on through small vaudeville to bigger time houses and to my present work as feature performer at conventions, state and national receptions and banquets during which time I had the opportunity to see the work of other performers I found I had far under-estimated the task when I really set to work on it. Despite many years experience as a writer of over 35 textbooks for magicians, as a dealer and also a magical wholesaler supplying magical manufactured effects to 34 magical dealers here and abroad, I found it was a difficult task to locate in all the thousands of magical effects of which I had gained a knowledge over so many years, even 100 effects of a sufficiently spectacular nature to hold the Interest of a fair sized audience entirely surrounding the performer.

I found it was necessary to consult hundreds of magical books, all existing dealers catalogs and some of former years, and to cull notes of programs of magicians whose performances I had witnessed or been given reports of.

Bours, days and then weeks became necessary to give to the gathering of this material and information. The first 30 tricks came fairly easy, the next 30 came a little harder.

The next 20 became a tedious and time consumming problem, while the last 20 to make up he 100 seemed an almost impossible task.

Several books could have been written during the time that was devoted to this compilation.

But at last the job is finished ani the answer to the many requests of my family of readers who felt that I was r.he one to attempt the job and thereby delegated me to execute it for them is now in oheir hands.

I hope it meets with their approval and that it does indeed fullfll what they have expressed as AN IMPERATIVE NEED OP THE MODERN JERFORMER. Performers who themselves have previouslv had to give weeks and months of their time culling dealers catalogs and magical books in order to find just a bare dozen or two such effects from which they might select a half dozen that would fit into their particular needs an i conditions of performance, will, I am sure,appreciate the present effort. Will appreciate it, because it rives them a vast fund of material already collected and placed at their handd" from which they may make a better and more ideal selection of such effects for their particular needs.

To further assist the performer I have given wherever possible a reference to the book where the item may be found described in case the performer is not fully informed on the method and its nresentation. In other cases where the item is standard, references are Riven to the dealers catalogs, or where the item is only available through one dealer the dealer has been mentioned. However, most dealers nowadays handle each others products so one of the larger nagical concerns can usually obtain any of the Items desired for the prospective purchaser. To aid the performer and make the information complete the price is quoted wherever it is possible, though such prices are naturally tenative as they are subject to fluctuation from time to time with different dealers as in fact are all products of all classes 'in all other markets.

I have also riven a number of original suggestions for combination of effects or for a different application of a standard apparatus to obtain a new and different effect. Such an idea is for instance; the use of the Comedy Funnel in combination with the Beer Powder to produce beer instead of water from a spectator who^has been drinking too much beer." It provides a hilarious new effect for nite club audiences far out distancing the original water oroduction.. One of these suggestions alone should be sufficiently valuables 1JO the performer looking for suitable material for night clubs, to be worth several times the cost of this publication.

Hoping that this contribution, which is quite off the beaten path of my usual offerings to magic, may meet with a portion of that kind approval which has enabled the publication of first one or two Burling Hull textbooks on magic, which soon became half a dozen more and then grew to be a couple of dozen, until now there are 39 such publications I beg in conclusion to remain Magically yours,
