This brilliant Card Principle is one which commends itself highly to both the AMATEUR and the PROFESSIONAL Magician.

TO THE AMATEUR FOR— Its ability to be used at CLOSE QUARTERS; The ELIMINATION of SLEIGHT OF HAND; Its BAFFLING and MYSTERIOUS effects; Its facility for producing MIND READING effects; Its extreme subtlety, there being nothing to betray its modus operanda; It offers a new Principle on which UNLIMITED NEW EFFECTS are rendered possible, for the first time; TO THE PROFESSIONAL— It provides him with both a "card reading" effect and also a means of discovering names of all cards selected and returned to the effect; It provides a brilliant RESERVE EFFECT which can be used in an emergency, or as opportunity presents, giving him an unlimited number of baffling effects to be used at any time needed.

This ingenuous Card Principle—like the Svengali Pack and Menetekel Decks, originated by the same inventor—consists of a unique basic principle . . . . which accomplishes for the one in possession of it, one of the prime essentials of Card Magic on which practically 60% of all card effects are based.

There are only Four Basic Essentials, employed in practically all the hest card effects (1) knowing beforehand what card will be selected (as positively assured by Svengali Deck) — (2) securing possession of the selected card after it has been freely selected and lost in the pack (as achieved by Menetekel Deck)—(31 securing possession of a freely selected card or a duplicate for the purpose of "restoring" a destroyed card or for apparent "transposition"' or the magical "appearance" of a selected card, in a place where it could not apparently get to without supernatural means (as accomplished by the Menetekel Deck) — (4) the learning of the name of a freely selected card—without the delay of a usual sleight of hand manipulations, such as by making the pass to the top or bottom and then sighting the card—and also without resorting to marking the cards or arranging the pack—in fact, by using any ordinary cards and a pack which has been freely shuffled beforehand (as now achieved by this Eleclra Principle).

Electro provides the one remaining principle which with the Svengali and Menetekel Principles, completes the Cycle of Card Principles, created by the inventor with the distinct object of giving to the Modern Conjurer full control of all Card Magic—by means of a series of New and Advanced methods and superior principles.

These inventions and their ingenious underlying principles, give to the world an entirely new and greatly enlarged vista in magic and open a New Era in the field of Card Magic.

ENTIRELY OBVIATES THE USE OF MARKED OR ARRANGED CARDS EXPLANATION: The purpose of Electra is to give to the operator Immediate knowledge of A—All cards in the pack at any time.

B—Card or cards at any point or points at which pack is opened or "cut".

C—All cards selected, returned and genuinely lost in pack.

D—Cards "read" from top of pack down or bottom up—or from center of pack either up or down.

E—Cards at any number (from either top or bottom of pack).

EFFECTS NOTE:—Pack can be shuffled between each of the following effects—genuine shuffle— as the order of the cards, has nothing to do with the operation of the magical effects.

EFFECT ONE: Bring pack forward and hand it to spectator, asking him to thoToly shuffle it.

Follow this method of introduction closely, which will greatly enhance the marvellous effect of the unusual feats which are to follow—because it seems as if they positively must depend upon some consecutive arrangement of the cards or depend upon some supernatural control of the cards possessed by the performer.

Hand out the pack to a spectator asking him to shuffle the cards thoroly, stating that your cards are not marked and adding, "'But as a magician's word is not always believed, let me add that I will guarantee that statement with an offer of $500.00 to anyone who cares to stop me right now and prove that point. Five Hundred Dollars for each "marked" card found in the pack. At the end of the performance, I shall throw the cards into the audience, so that you can confirm this statement personally and individually."

To Spectator—"Have you shuffled the cards thoroly (taking cards). Are you satisfied that they are thoroly mixed (hold up pack in right hand). Well, in that case I want to have this gentleman, also shuffle the cards (handing pack to another spectator), thus making it doubly sure—Are you satisfied, Sir? Well, I am not. So again we will ask this gentleman, over here, to give them one more shuffle (this repition causes a little amusement and drives the fact home that the cards are genuinely shuffled). Now, Sir! Kindly place your initials on the back of the top card— near the edge—to identify the cards."

Step back to Stage, "This is a feat which I find very valuable while playing cards with strangers—especially those I meet when travelling on trains. By the exercise of a little Magic Power we can tell every card in the pack. For instance, in spite of the fact that you have so thoroughly, and repeatedly shufflled the cards, I can tell you that the first card (drawing it off) is the Ten Spot. The next card seems to be either the Seven of Clubs or Spades—Yes, I am sure it is Spades". Continue a few cards more.

EFFECT TWO: "Now some persons have claimed that I looked at the first few cards—impossible as that would be—so right now I will lift a few cards off the pack— (throwing them down on table)—"Now you do not know how many cards I lifted off —and naturally / could not know either. Yet I can tell you (he next card (drawing it off as you speak and holding it up for all to see) here's the King of Hearts. And the next one is the Ace of Diamonds—The next one is the Ten of Hearts'", etc., etc.

EFFECT THREE: "Now to make it still more difficult—in fact to make it actually impossible—I will ask someone to select a card from the pack anywhere (spreading the pack in a fan and allowing card to be selected). Now using that as a knife to cut the pack, just push it in half way in the pack at any point you like (see Fig. 5) I will lift up the cards at that point—doing it very slowly so that you can see no secret move is made—and holding up these cards faced towards you, I ask you to kindly notice the cards facing you. The card, at the very point where you separated the pack, is the Four of Spades, my friend. And the card that you selected?

—why of course that was the Jack of Spades—wasn't it?

By this time audience is convinced that you can do anything you like with playing cards—or possess some supernatural power over the paste-boards.

Add "I did that to convince those who feel that I might have marked the back of the cards. As you will note, the card at the point where the gentleman just opened the pack was 20 or 30 cards from the top of the deck—which means that there were 20 or 30 cards covering the back of the card which he selected. Therefore, I could not have read it from the back, thru all those 20 or 30 cards—even if it had been printed in gold letters 1 inch high.

EFFECT FOUR: "Will some one kindly call out a number between 1 and 52 (party calls out say 8). Would you like the eighth from the top of the pack, or the bottom? (Party indicates preference—count off that number from top as in Fig. 7)
