In the loop

This past year has been a whirlwind for Business Services— from staffing shortages, budget compressions, challenges with vendors and issues with software, to negotiating contracts, all while strategically planning for the future of our operation in uncertain times.

Despite these hurdles, each of you has shown up with dedication, resilience, and a true rockstar spirit. Your hard work and commitment continue to drive our success, and I couldn’t be prouder!

I“Tough times never last, but tough people do.” – Dr. Robert Schuller

I’m beyond thrilled to share that Business Services is on track to exceed our budget forecast by 27% and surpass last year’s sales by 2.5%! This is a testament to the passion and effort you bring every day.

Thank you all for being the heart of Business Services!

SUPPORT LOCAL: SPREADING THE WORD, ONE STICKER AT A TIME!

Supporting local businesses has never been this important. Back in February, we kicked off our “Support local” campaign, and since then, customers have been grabbing our stickers and checking out our online postings and digital screen ads.

The message will also be featured on a wall in the store, spreading the word even further!

Since the launch of concordia.ca/printstore, more than 1,200 faculty and staff have joined and are regularly placing orders online. To maximize adoption, daily efforts are needed to promote this new tool.

WHY IS ORDERING ONLINE A SMART MOVE?

For us

• Time-saving – No need to manually create orders, search for budget codes or attach files.

• More efficient – Reduces back-and-forth emails.

• Fewer quote requests – Pricing is available instantly.

• Opportunity to up-sell.

For customers

• Order tracking.

• Access to order history and invoices.

• Favourites and one-click reordering.

• Instant pricing.

Since January, we have been sending out monthly newsletters to our users featuring print and Concordia stationery products and special offers ranging from gift with purchase, 2-for-1 offers, and contests to exclusive discounts. We’ll also work on adding more products like stickers, booklets, NeverTear options, binding, and more to our selection.

Exams | April 15 to May 4

This is the perfect opportunity to upsell products and offer notepads or pocket folders.

ALL HANDS-ON-DECK INVENTORY

On Monday, April 28, our operations will be closed for the day for the annual inventory.

SUPPORTING STUDENT

An exclusive 15% OFF DISCOUNT on printing has been introduced for recipients of the Concordia Council on Student Life (CCSL) Special Projects Fund to support student initiatives.

EASTER BREAKS

The University is closed from April 18 to April 21.

PARKING UPDATES

lGreat news for early risers!

The LB and FB garages, which used to open at 5 a.m., have been opening at 4 a.m. since February. This initiative, brought forward by Alex Rousseau, has led to 20-30 entries each day during that extra hour. Contractors working on Concordia’s project have especially appreciated the new schedule!

LB Garage temporary closure

The garage is closed for work focused on preserving its structure, including slab repairs, drainage upgrades, and improved floor markings with fresh lines and directional signage. It’s expected to reopen at the beginning of May.

AGrey Nun’s seasonal parking

The seasonal parking spaces are available to rent.

QPedalheads camps are back!

Loyola Parking is excited to welcome back the Pedalheads bike camps this summer! This fun day camp helps kids gain confidence, ride proudly without their training wheels for the first time, while exploring the campus safely. Lindsay Deliva coordinates all parking-related aspects throughout the summer.

sSpecial thanks and internship

In addition to his dedicated patrolling duties at Loyola, Aidan Finlay has been a huge help with locker cleaning, and his assistance has been invaluable. Starting April 7, he will begin an internship with Business Services as part of his Business Administration studies at John Abbott College

We’ve launched the ‘Quick Tips’ campaign on Instagram! This year-round initiative will provide students with valuable tips on topics ranging from what to do if you’ve lost or found an ID, how to use DPrint, exam essentials, and what’s needed to take the shuttle.

The campaign will be promoted through print and digital displays across campus, engaging students with useful information they can easily access.

DPRINT UPDATES

FINALS

CAN BE STRESSFUL, BUT PRINTING DOESN’T HAVE TO BE!

We’ve featured a contest to win DPrint credits in the students’ edition of the “Now,” promoted it on social media, and shared it on the DPrint page. The contest ends on April 4.

Coming Soon:

• Starting May 1, there will be some price changes for student devices. Look out for updated signage and online information.

• A new portal to enhance the student experience and streamline processes is in development and will be released this summer.

KUDOS RITA

A huge shoutout to Rita Goudreau! After chatting with students, Rita noticed that several weren’t being charged for the replacement of their lost ID cards due to a computer misconfiguration.

Thanks to her attentiveness, we recovered nearly $8,500 (325 cards) that would have otherwise slipped through the cracks!

YEAR OF SERVICE

Congrats to Stuart O’Driscoll, who celebrated 20 years of dedicated service this past February.

Staff Spotlight

Lindsay Deliva, Assistant, Business Operation

Tell us a bit about yourself

I studied nursing and then psychology at Concordia but eventually decided to focus on work. I gained experience in medical receptions at McGill, Glen Hospital, and finally landed at the Concordia clinic back in 2021 before joining Business Services in 2024.

On top of that, I’ve been managing staff, the takeout area, and social media for a part-time job I’ve had for years. Feel free to stop by Côte St-Luc BBQ and say hi!

What does a typical day look like for you?

Every day is different—patrolling, managing ID cards and permits, coordinating with contractors, security, or event planners, and handling administrative work.

I’m a bit of a stickler when it comes to rules and procedures, but I’m fair about it. Thankfully, I get great feedback, even when I educate some of the coaches on respecting the parking rules!

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Interacting with the public is high on the list— getting to know people, chatting with students, and offering advice or reassurance when needed. Sometimes, you can feel their anxiety, and I can relate to that.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned in your role?

I enjoy the autonomy and the fact that I’m constantly learning new things. It’s great knowing I have the support allowing me to trust my judgment while also being able to rely on such a fantastic team.

I was pleasantly surprised by how people reached out for guidance from the start and how quickly they agreed and respect my decisions.

What’s the best vacation or trip you’ve ever taken?

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan—every quiz I’ve taken always sorts me into Hufflepuff! I also went on a Disney trip with my family, and it was amazing. Walking down Diagon Alley for the first time was an unforgettable experience!

It’s great knowing I have the support allowing me to trust my judgment while also being able to rely on such a fantastic team.

What’s something that nobody knows about you?

I played varsity hockey from a very young age through Cégep at John Abbott. It was an amazing experience—the travel, the games, and the friendships.

When I got to Concordia, the Stingers approached me, but I wasn’t sure about staying in school, so I decided to pass. I was the enforcer on the ice, though I did break a few bones myself along the way!

What’s your go-to tea order?

I’m totally obsessed with Bubble Tea—I make sure to have it at least once a week, no matter what!

If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Tacos, all the way! I’m a huge fan of Mexican food!

What is your favourite holiday?

I absolutely love Christmas—I come from a big family! I have a brother, a sister, nieces, a nephew, and 34 cousins! Our earlier get-togethers were always 40+ people.

Picture a huge tree in the front room, great food, music, and tons of laughter. It’s the best!

What’s one song that always puts you in a good mood?

I love dancing—I even got my Zumba certification! And ‘Bailando’ by Enrique Iglesias is guaranteed to always lift my mood!

Do you have any hidden hobbies outside of work?

For the past 15 years, on and off, my best friend from Cégep and I get together to hang out and cook a different recipe each week.

It’s really broadened and improved my cooking skills and perspective.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

The fiscal year-end deadline of April 30 is coming up fast! Orders placed before April 23 can be billed this fiscal year, but anything after that will be charged in the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Customers will get an email notification, and we’ll also add a note to the Print Store homepage.
