Concordian Air Quality Index (AQI) Policy

Objective:

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members are of paramount importance at Concordian International School This policy aims to provide guidelines for actions to be taken based on the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels to ensure a healthy and safe environment within our school premises

Policy:

Decisions about AQI are made based on the table below:

AQI Below 100 (Good to Moderate):

● Regular Activities: When the AQI is below 100, regular school activities will proceed as scheduled

AQI Between 101-150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups):

● Reduced Outdoor Activities: When the AQI reads between 101 and 150, outdoor activities will be reduced or modified This includes physical education classes, sports practices, and other outdoor events. No strenuous activities will be allowed outdoors.

● Mask Wearing Recommended: It is strongly recommended that all individuals wear masks while outdoors to protect against air pollutants

AQI 151 and Above (Unhealthy and Higher):

● Outdoor Activities Canceled: When the AQI reaches 151 or higher, all outdoor activities, including recess and outdoor classes, will be canceled.

● Mask Wearing Strongly Recommended: It is strongly recommended that all individuals wear masks both indoors and outdoors to reduce exposure to harmful air pollutants

Additional Precautions:

Air Quality Enhancement Measures:

● All classrooms are equipped with air filtering devices, including Dyson and Xiaomi air purifiers.

● Air-conditioning units in classrooms are specially equipped with PM2.5 filters to ensure the circulation of clean air

Regular Maintenance of AQI Devices:

● AQI monitoring devices are cleaned and calibrated annually before the winter months to ensure accurate and reliable readings

Implementation:

● The AQI will be monitored regularly by designated staff members using reliable air quality monitoring devices.

● The AQI status is displayed and updated in real-time on the Concordian app under the "AQI" icon

● Teachers and staff will be responsible for ensuring that students follow the recommended actions based on the AQI level.

● Doors and windows remain closed during the AQI spike

● Adequate supplies of masks will be made available to students and staff for their use when required

● Outdoor activities will resume when the AQI returns to a safe level below 150

● The AQI status is displayed and updated in real-time on the Concordian app under the "AQI" icon.

Review:

This AQI policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains up-to-date and aligned with the latest environmental health guidelines and regulations Any necessary revisions will be made to enhance the safety and well-being of our school community
