Greetings from the Head of School Dear Phoenix Family, Despite an uncertain start to this school year, I can happily and confidently say that it has been a good one. Though we had to make many adjustments to welcome students and teachers on campus, we managed to successfully navigate all the restrictions and changes required to insure the health and safety of our community.

I recognize that in many ways we have had to live out our word of the year by “perservering” through all of the different safety protocols, limits to on-campus access, decreased gatherings, and simply making our way through a school year that felt very different.

Yet, despite all this, Concordia Shanghai has still been blessed. We were extremely fortunate to have been able to hold on-campus learning this entire school year.

Our wonderful parent community really stepped up to plan numerous events and opportunites for engagement across all divisions. Our teachers, in their commitment to excellence, increased communication to keep our families better informed. Lastly, our students demonstrated so much resilience this year. Their ability to persevere is honorable and will serve them well the rest of this year and in the future.

To our Concordia alums, I ask that you welcome the Class of 2021 into your esteemed ranks and know they will represent Concordia and our alumni association well.

Again I feel blessed and grateful for the engagement of parents, teachers, and students during this school year. It has been my honor to serve as your Interim Head of School. Concordia Shanghai will be in good hands as Mr. Steve Winkelman steps in as the new Head of School starting July 1, 2021.

May our Lord’s peace and faithfulness continue to guide and direct you today and into the future.

Concordia Senior Students Reflect on the Word of the Year

Every single day I am inspired by the community at Concordia. Here, everyone is full of heart and passion like I have never seen before and this year’s word of the year, persevere, could not be more perfect. As I reflect on this year, I think of our teachers and faculty, away from their families to be present in our community and teach us. I think of our students, who still made this year the best it could have been. I think of the Class of 2021, who discovered their passions and fostered real change all with good character.

To my fellow graduates, if this is what you could do in the classroom, I can’t fathom the wonders you will accomplish in the world. I am beyond blessed to call this Concordia community my family.

Iffany Zou, Class of ‘21

Throughout this year, perseverance has taken on different meanings at different times for our senior class. In the fall, it was a resolve to reunite with friends and peers after months of distance learning. In the winter, it was a determination to push through endless barrages of college essays. In the spring, it was a will to resist the tempting, expanding forces of senioritis. And finally, as summer nears, perseverance will be a strength to accept the end, to depart from this community that we’ve come to love so much. Class of 2021, I am forever grateful for everything we’ve been through together this past year.

As we enter this bittersweet transition in our life, I hope that we can use this perseverance to embrace new challenges and carry values and relationships we’ve built here at Concordia.

For the past 13 years, I have had the privilege to grow up beside future business leaders, changemakers, and innovators. From our late-night study sessions, shared lack of sleep, to our dedication to excellence, the Class of 2021 has truly outdone itself. We persevered throughout COVID-19 and online school, generating even greater ambition for ourselves and exceeding even our own expectations. We have been blessed by faculty who never fail to inspire, countless opportunities, and an irreplaceable community. Our shared unwavering persistence and work ethic will continue to distinguish us and impact communities far and wide. High school may only be four years, but the memories made in Shanghai will last a lifetime. As we embark on our life journey, despite our diverging paths, Concordia will always be our home.

2021 High School Graduation Speakers Congratulations, Class of 2021, on Your Graduation!

On May 29th, our senior class convened in front an audience of teachers, family and friends to take part in one of life’s most anticipated rites of passage. Graduation.

Addressing the assembly, Concordia social sciences teacher Erik Paulson, who was chosen by the senior class to deliver the commencement address, reiterated the importance of using purpose as a guidepost through one’s life. He stated:

“Earlier this spring your teachers got together to write a High School vision statement to guide our labors and clarify what we value. I love what it says. It says nothing about the arcana of AP Economics or Accelerated Chemistry, nothing about grades or test scores or colleges acceptances. Nothing about wealth or celebrity. It says we want you to be purposeful, to be passionate, to inspire change and act in the service of others. That’s it.

That’s what’s important. We want you to be kind, humble and grateful for the blessings you’ve been given. We want you to accept responsibility for those less fortunate than yourselves, and to act in the service of others…”

“I want you to think about what a glorious irony that is: that the most self-serving thing we can do is to behave selflessly. And that realization is a wonderful starting point for the grand adventure that awaits you all.”

In her speech, Amy Lin, the student elected by the Class of ‘21 to deliver this year’s senior address, spoke of the shared experience of this year’s graduating class and the indomitable spirit that unites the Concordia community. She shared: “Though it feels like we had just started, our precious high school experiences are coming to a conclusion. In a few moments, this road we walked down altogether will deviate into 76, different, paths. But Concordia will always, always feel like home…“

“Our junior and senior years were different from those of the class of 2018 and 2019. One less Olympic Week, midnight AP testing, lunch with dividers, school with masks, assembly with strict seating, cancelled athletic tournaments, restricted entrance to school, and the off-campus venue for graduation. But through it all, the best thing about Concordia is the one thing that hasn’t changed and never will, and it’s the people. Each and every one of us is unique, having different talents and hobbies, but we all share one commonality—our ability to unite, encourage, envision, and persevere…”

Concordia Scholar Award Hat’s off to this year’s Concordia Senior Scholar Award recipient, Lillian Fu! The Senior Scholar award is presented to the graduating senior who maintained one of the highest grade point averages for all four years of high school, has taken a rigorous course load, has made a significant contribution to the school, and is recognized as being a student of high moral and ethical character. This award represents the highest honor that Concordia High School bestows upon one of its students.

Lillian was described by one veteran teacher as being “exemplary – both inside and outside the classroom.”

Another teacher said, “I’ve always been impressed with this student’s collaborative attitude and love of learning.”

Optimistic, responsive, compassionate…Lillian is a natural leader. A multi-sport athlete, accomplished musician, leader of clubs, and cocreator of one of the most effective service initiatives in our community, she truly represents the excellence of Concordia.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE YEAR After a year of uncertainty, Concordia closes the year with successful events that provided opportunities for students to listen to world renowned speakers, learn about new cultures, and share their passion with the community. Below are but a few highlights from the year.

ES Story Time with Guest Author Joel ben Izzy Made possible by the Concordia Fund

In January of this year, our elementary students welcomed celebrated author and storyteller Joel ben Izzy! Joel, who is based in California, joined elementary grade-level groups via the magic of Zoom. During these sessions, he regaled students with fun riddles, picture puzzles, and stories, he gathered from his travels around the world, including a few famous Chinese folktales. Each story contained a thoughtful moral lesson that Joel asked the students to ponder.

About Joel ben Izzy Joel studied storytelling at Stanford University. For over thirty-five years he has traveled around the world gathering and telling stories in over 36 countries. He has recorded six award-winning CDs and wrote two books of his stories. Maybe you’ve read a few.

Middle School Spanish Builds a Mayan Village Concordia Middle School Spanish students recently explored the history, culture and charm of Santa Catarina Palopó, a tiny village in Guatemala, as part of their curriculum in learning Spanish culture and civilization.

Inspired by the breathtaking local scenery from the village’s recent make-over, when in 2017 residents undertook a village-wide project known as Pintando Santa Catarina Palopó. This initiative had villagers covering the dull grey buildings in vibrant blue paint and Mayan symbols, putting the culture on display for all to see.

This year, Concordia Spanish teacher Mrs. Maria Teixeira decided to share the story of Santa Catarina Palopó with her Spanish classes, further enhancing our students’ knowledge and appreciation of the Spanishspeaking world.

Concordia Hosts First Big Data Conference and Workshop Made possible by the Concordia Fund

This April, Concordia students participated in their third big data conference of the school year. Led by high school teacher Dr. Peter Tong, students presented on why Big Data matters and led a workshop for middle school and high school students to learn how understanding and utilizing big data can help address world problems.

The April event was the very first big data conference and workshop organized by students for students, aiming to provide exposure and understanding of big data while creating an awareness of its many applications.

Joining our student presenters was professor Xin Li, dean of graduate studies at Duke-Kunshan. Professor Li, an award-winning scientist specializing in integrated circuits, signal processing, and data analytics. Also in attendance was Jess Wak from IBM, who shared insights into Cognos Analytics, a cloud-based business and analytics software created by IBM. Read more about the Big Data workshop.

Concordia Fine Arts This year, the fine arts department had the opportunity to perform outside the gates of Concordia. Families and friends were treated to musical performances and concerts throughout the year, including the Christmas Brunch at the Marriott, Caroling at the PSO Christmas Bazaar, and the Pops Concert at the Ramada Hotel.

Our students auditioned for the AMIS Solo and Ensemble Competition, with sophomore Shoyo Ko winning the solo finals round. Senior students Lillian Fu (flutist) and Liam Richmond (tenor) were chosen finalists which began with over 700 entries submitted from around the globe.

2020-2021 Phoenix Athletics in Review Turner Neal, Director of Athletics

With COVID-19 restrictions still in full effect, our Season 1 teams were not able to compete against other schools this year. However, our students and coaches continued to work hard throughout the school year and were able to find opportunities to show off their skills in front of the school.

Semester 1 Sports The first athletics event on campus for school year 2020-21 was a Phoenix Friday, with boys’ and girls’ varsity volleyball teams facing off against men’s and women’s staff teams.

Intraschool competition began offsite with Jr. NBA league, an elite basketball league sponsored by UnderArmor, made up of local, bi-lingual, and a few international schools. Games were held at commercial facilities and provided a great template for Concordia to expand competitions for more teams as COVID-19 restrictions were slowly lifted.

In December, Concordia was able to participate in more events off campus. Most international schools were not competing against other schools, so Concordia competed against bi-lingual and local schools at off-site commercial venues. This provided a great opportunity for Concordia to form more relationships with new partners, while providing much needed competitive outlets for our students.

Concordia was also able to play both SASPD and SASPX, with the girls’ varsity basketball team especially shining, going undefeated on the season.

As spring came we found more opportunities to provide something fun for our students. On January 29, Concordia scheduled another Phoenix Friday, with students playing against staff.

Semester 2 Sports Due to the additional cases in Shanghai in January, scheduling matches for badminton, soccer, softball were once again a challenge.

Despite these challenges, our track & field teams were able to continue to participate in virtual meets as well as intrasquad sessions on campus. Results were sent to host schools around the world, and students could compare their results. This was a huge motivation for our team during a difficult time in the year.

In March, Concordia once again started playing competitions offsite. Our boys and girls soccer teams and badminton teams were able to compete against other local schools as well as a few international schools for the first time all year.

Many restrictions were lifted after April 1, which meant games were once again possible. Because our Season 1 teams had not been able to have any interschool competitions, a Season 4 game was scheduled between Concordia and SAS for volleyball, and one game between SASPX and Concordia was played in tennis.

Sportswoman of the Year Turner Neal, Director of Athletics

This year’s Sportswoman of the Year is Iffany Zou. Over her career, Iffany has participated in cross country and soccer, where she was a captain in both sports. Iffany has earned multiple team awards in the past and is known to her coaches as one of the most committed student athletes they’ve ever worked with.

She attended off season workouts and helped encourage her teammates to do the same.

She organized team dinners and helped recruit new students to participate. Iffany has suffered multiple significant injuries during her soccer career, and not only went to rehab with Dr.

The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards are the most prestigious awards that a student can earn from the Athletic Department each year. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to win individual team awards like Most Valuable, Most Improved, or Coaches Choice. In a traditional year, students may also win competition awards such as All-APAC or All-Tournament Team. But just one boy and one girl can win this particular award. The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards are given by the entire Athletic Department.

Head coaches nominate students and then gather to support their nominees and vote on the eventual winners.

This award recognizes two students who display excellent sportsmanship, demonstrate leadership, exhibit skill and ability, and we give special consideration to students in grade 12 and those who contribute to multiple teams.

Rizzo, but then would show up on the field ready to cheer on her team during practices.

Despite not knowing what the game situation was going to be this year, she wore a protective mask and kept going to practices with a broken nose. With that level of commitment to sports, you might think that Iffany only has sports going for her in her life, but that also isn’t the case. In her spare time away from sports, she moonlights as the Student Council president and maintains a rigorous academic schedule.

Sportsman of the Year This year’s Sportsman of the Year is Everett Tung. Over his career, Everett has been an accomplished volleyball and basketball player for Concordia and this year, as a senior, Everett joined the soccer team. Everett was elected as a two-sport captain. Everett is a model student-athlete, who brings his excellence to athletics, academics, and the arts. Everett was an All-APAC award winner in the Fall of 2019, the last time that award was given out. Additionally, Everett earned multiple team specific awards including

“MVP” and “Best Teammate”. Also known to give his 100% in every practice and game that he attends and does so with a smile. His coaches describe him as a “man oozing with honor and integrity”, a “strong communicator”, and as “someone who always puts the team first.” These descriptions truly personify a true Sportsman and what Concordia Athletics is all about.

Highlights From Concordia’s Development Office

WILL Foundation Service Trips This year, middle school students volunteered on Saturdays to help at the WILL Foundation on ChongMing Island. The Foundation is home to a group of wonderful children with minor disablilities. At WILL, the children learn skills that will help them become self -supporting adults. During their visits, our students learned about the foundation, helped prepare the inn for guests, planted and harvested vegetables in an aquaponic farm, and bonded with WILL kids.

Navigating Cultural Differences Dr. Josephine Kim, a lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, spoke to our parent and student community on navigating the differences between Western and Asian cultural approaches to education and learning. Dr. Kim is widely known in the international school community as an expert on issues of diversity, equity, mental wellness and family issues.

Sharing a Meal with People in Need Concordia students are addressing a need right here in our community. They have met with and interviewed people in the Jinqiao neighborhood with disabilities and who are homeless. In response to understanding their situations and needs, everyday a student delivers a fresh hot meal to Mr. Li and Mrs. Miao.

Reducing Food Waste Master Class Concordia high school students completed the PACE Master Class to learn about becoming part of a ‘circular economy’, “an economy where ‘waste’ is valued and reintegrated into the supply chain.” This is an intense, research-based, knowledge-rich, and inspiring high-level educational program supported by multiple case studies that are tailored to the Concordia community. the course aims to enrich awareness on sustainability and to bring about sustainable change.

JUMP! Foundation DEI Collective Program JUMP! Foundation has partnered with Concordia Shanghai in a JUMP! Collective Program that is focused on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). Starting May this year, the program, supported high school student leaders (Grades 9-12), and brought together 25 students from participating International Schools across Asia addressing topics of social justice and belonging, and efforts towards equity and social change.

Reading Hope: Building Libraries for Schools in Need Reading Hope is working with the Garuna Foundation to bring English books and resources to their eight schools in Cambodia and Thailand. Last year the Concordia Fund enabled a service trip to the Garuna Foundation for Concordia families. Unable to travel this year, the Concordia Reading Hope team catalogued, curated, packed, and shipped eight “libraries”—one for each of Garuna’s schools—that provide free afternoon education for children.

AMITY GLOBAL SUMMIT 2021: RACIAL EQUALITY Students from Concordia’s GIN Amity club are organizing a global online conference to discuss racism and injustice.

Their hope is to continue addressing these types of issues on our own campus, promote inclusivity and raising awareness with students, teachers and parents. The conference will take place virtually over the course of two days and feature speakers from diverse backgrounds who are advocates of equality.

Although we are sad to say goodbye to members of our community, we are happy that they will carry Concordia with them to their next adventure. Some of our departing faculty share some memorable experiences in Shanghai and where they’ will be heading next.

The Chaveriats: Evelyn and David Concordia start date: August 2009 Memories and milestones at Concordia: [Evelyn] Our daughter, Joy Lynn, graduated from Concordia in 2013. We thought that after those first four years, it might be time to leave China, but we had so much yet ahead of us! A memory that I will always hold dear is the graduation we held during a faculty meeting for a visitor from Liberia, who had missed his celebration due to civil war. The love and beauty of our faculty to honor this fine gentleman was precious. Not a dry eye in the house! That’s who we are at this amazing place.

[David] I loved when fifth grade was six self-contained classes. I smile whenever I hear the word Nanbeihu, fifth grade’s traditional three-day trip. And I always loved being a cowboy as I led dozens of pioneers out west via the Oregon Trail.

Favorite Shanghai memories: [Evelyn] The connection my daughter made with migrant families living in––serving them through food, money and education. We are forever connected to Chamunzah, Joy’s ‘brother’ here in China. Our daughter witnessing to us that service is organic and opportunities are always right in front of you.

[David] There’s a beautiful (mostly unknown) business park just one block from Concordia that sports a four-acre pond adorned with majestic tress. YES! So close! So true!

I ran there hundreds of times throughout my years. The adventure awaits you!

Pilar Tan, Founder and Mother of WILL foundation Since 2010, David has been a supporter of the WILL Foundation. As one of the first board members at WILL, he was instrumental in hiring English teachers, raising funds in support of English language learning for the WILL kids. Through the years David organized immersion activities and invited them onto Concordia’s campus where Concordia students planned activities for their visit. Many of you, our alumni, may have taken part in these classes in your time at Concordia.

David and Evelyn have opened their homes and their hearts to WILL and the wider school community, they have touched the lives of so many during their time at Concordia and will be missed.

The Lavenders: Brian and LeeAnne Concordia start date: August 2015 What Shanghai activity will you miss the most: Cycling! We cycle with a group called the Jinqiao Peddlers and we will miss biking around Shanghai.

The restaurants in Shanghai are AMAZING and we love food. We’ll miss finding new and incredible places to eat on a regular basis.

Walking around in the former French Concession: those tree-lined streets with cafes and beautiful little shops. So lovely.

Kathleen Mahoney Concordia start date: August 2013 What Shanghai activity will you miss the most: Just walking through the city, especially the parks in Shanghai. Park culture in Shanghai is amazing. My favorite is to see people practicing their musical instruments or taking their caged birds out for fresh air.

Any special place(s) in the city you have fond memories of: Fuxing Park, Xiangyang Park.

What Chinese dish(es)/treats will you miss most: Jianbing! For the first years I was here there was a woman with a cart who would yell at you for different reasons. The nicer woman selling them now is more pleasant but I kind of miss the edge of the original jianbing seller.

Headed next: Going to work with Mr. Kent, former Concordia HS principal, at a boarding school in Hudson, Ohio.

The Richmonds: Danielle, Jim, Jacob and Liam Concordia start date: August 2012 What Shanghai activity will you miss the most: [Jim] Playing guitar at the White Horse [Danielle] Going for a walk and catching a yummy meal in Puxi.

Any special places in the city you will miss the most: Mercato, the Bund, the park behind Green Court (especially when the trees are in bloom), and Luijaizui at night.

What Chinese dish(es)/treats will you miss most: Family favorites: xiaolong bao, bubble milk tea, hot pot, and Auntie Xu’s jianbing!

Most of you will remember piling into the Rittmann theatre, laughing, applauding after a play or musical performance. Maybe you have been on the stage, or part of the crew or maybe in the orchestra or just in the audience cheering on a family member.

Theatre has not only touched the lives of students and our community, it has imparted skills and life-long lessons for many students.

This year we will be saying goodbye to the man behind Concordia’s most memorable theatre performances, who for the past thirteen years has chosen, produced and directed all of Concordia’s high school theatre productions.

Chad Doering HS Theatre Teacher

Here’s what current and past students have shared about their experience working with Mr. Doering.

“Being new to the school, I didn’t really know where I belonged, what my passions were, or who “my people” were, but Mr. Doering helped me find all three of those things,” explains Ellie Wang, a sophomore at Concordia.

“In September, I found myself nervously shaking and stuttering through my first theater audition at Concordia. I. Was. Terrified. I think Mr. Doering saw that, and he encouraged me to just be true to my character, to fully immerse myself in the show,” recalls Ellie. “That just felt right to me. I felt like I was finally part of something bigger than myself at this school. Mr. Doering helped me find the feeling of belonging and purpose that I had lost when I moved halfway across the world.”

Ellie Wang (Grade 10) “Theatre has always been a sort of second home to me, which is good because I chose to be there almost every day for 4 years, and that’s just considering high school. I think that once you invest that much time into anything it really becomes something necessary to consider in the exploration of who you are as a person, and theatre certainly has helped me grow and develop both as an actor and as a person in the many years I’ve taken part.”

“The theater has taught me more than how to memorize a script but has also taught me the importance of collaboration and leadership. Catching Up with Alumni: Interview with Micah Baermann, NCAA D1 Student Athlete

We talked with Concordia alumnus Micah Baermann (C‘20), who shared his journey from an international school to Davidson College, an NCAA Division 1 school in the United States. As noted in the interview, very few High School student athletes achieve the goal of playing college sports, and even fewer achieve it at the Division 1 level. Micah sheds light on the challenges he faced and gives advice to current Concordia student athletes.

How did playing sports in High School affect other parts of your life? We like to talk about how sports benefit students when it comes to time management, grades, personal discipline, etc. Did those sorts of things occur in your life?

Can you talk a little about the process from going from an international school to a D1 program? What were the biggest challenges you faced along the way?

Coming from an international school, I definitely had to work harder than kids coming from American schools to get noticed by college coaches. I think that the biggest challenge for me was finding ways to connect with coaches during breaks because my school seasons were not being watched.

Although many students want to make it to the next level, about 7% of High School student athletes play in college and less than 2% play at a NCAA D1 school.

What did you do that put you in this position? When did you start playing, did you do extra training outside of school, etc.

I have been playing baseball since I was about 4 years old, and over the years I’ve had several different coaches and teams. While it’s important to have a solid foundation in a sport, high school is when you have to stand out if you want to play collegiate sports. It’s not so much important how well you do in your school season as it is that you perform at private events where coaches will be looking for recruits. The summer before my senior year, I flew to Michigan, New York, and Florida to play baseball in hopes of getting recruited.

The choices that you make on a daily basis are very important. There were days where I didn’t want to go throw or work out, and if I hadn’t pushed myself to do those things, I probably wouldn’t be where I am right now. There are also important choices that you have to make with your priorities. My junior year, I really wanted to play basketball, but I knew that my time would be

Playing sports in high school, even multiple sports, does not prevent you from getting good grades or having a social life. I think time management is an important skill to have if you’re trying to compete at a higher level or even just get better at sports while succeeding in school. The best example I have of this is not myself, but one of my classmates, Mady Chen.

Mady played two varsity sports and still had the time to have the best GPA in our class.

A big part of succeeding academically and athletically is focusing on what you’re doing in the moment. When I was training or playing baseball, I wasn’t thinking of anything other than how I could do better or help my team. When I was doing work, I wasn’t thinking about baseball or any other sport. I think that keeping things separated in your head is important for success in multiple facets of life.

Interview with Storybook Author: Kelly Wu We reached out to Kelly Wu (C’20) to get some insight into the inspiration and motivation behind her book, Meet Lana.

Who was the inspiration for Lana?

Meet Lana is based off of a true story of a little girl named Lana. She was born with life-threatening defects including Spina bifida occulta and severely clubbed feet. Through the help of Baobei foundation, Lana was brought to Shanghai and was able to receive a number of lifesaving operations. Throughout her time here, she was cared for by a number of loving families who took her in as their own. Lana now lives in Japan with her parents David and Sarah Anderson.

Have you always been interested in telling stories and writing?

Storytelling and writing have always been important aspects of my life. I enjoyed reading and gradually grew to love writing throughout the years. Especially when it comes to telling meaningful stories or expressing my ideas, writing has been an important outlet. Throughout middle school, I journaled my thoughts through poorly-written poetry; In high school, I dug into literature as a space to reflect on self, humanity, morality, ethics, justice, and purpose. It was really in the course Storytelling Agency that I got to explore how writing could be used to share what I believe in and create positive change in our world. In addition to writing, creating art also plays a significant role in my self-expression. By capturing my emotions and thoughts through images, I have the opportunity to process and understand my experiences.

You are sharing Lana’s story with a whole generation of young readers. What do you hope the kids who read your book will take away from it?

The most important message I hope to convey through my book is that every child deserves a chance at life.

This is Baobei Foundation’s central message as well.

I know that every child’s journey is different—some children need more support while others face less difficulties growing up healthily. Whatever it takes, every child still deserves a chance to experience life.

Lana is a joyful little girl who can laugh, learn, and live because a group of compassionate strangers believed in her; every child should have the same hope. Through my book, I also hope to further inspire compassion and to share what love and empathy are capable of.

Will we be reading more from Kelly Wu the author?

I hope so! Even though I know I will be an Engineering student this fall, I have no clue what the future holds for me. There are so many stories around me that should be told, and I am excited to see how my voice and platform evolves as I learn through life.

Dear Alumni, I hope you enjoyed the updates and stories from Concordia in this 8th issue of our alumni ezine, Connections.

It has been a whirlwind of a year, but nevertheless, school life has continued. Students filled the halls with chatter, learning continued and events were hosted on and off campus. We started the year with much excitement with an alumni event celebrating young author and alumna Kelly Wu (C’18) who read from her book, Meet Lana.

Alumni in Shanghai have had other opportunities to gather throughout the year including the Christmas Brunch, Business Networking Group event in April, speaker workshops in May and the upcoming virtual Amity Summit is happening this month on June 11-13th. We welcome you to join us.

It is my last year at Concordia, and after five years I bid you farewell and thank you. Working in the Marketing & Communications department, and serving the school community in general, has been one of my greatest joys.
