I’d like to welcome each of you to our highly anticipated, and electrifying evening benefiting programs for our Concordia students. It is with honor that I sit as Chair of this year’s event, amazed by the efforts put forth, time spent, and devotion offered to our community, school and students. I hold great pride in being a part of this evening, as should you. We, together, are making a difference in the education our children experience. This education is one of the finest, and the reason I’m proud to send my children to Concordia. This year, we are going back to finish what we started in 2015, by raising money to support programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) plus the Arts for all students. Our goal is to continue building Concordia’s student-driven programs, and offer more speakers who will engage and challenge our learners within these initiatives. In addition, as tradition continues, some of the auction funds will be utilized by Concordia’s student-founded charity, Youth Empowering Progress (YEP), which is known for their outreach, both near and far. Tonight is not only a celebration of the impressive international education being delivered at Concordia International School Shanghai, but it is a time for reflection on the amazing people that make this community one others strive to engage with. There is a true compassion in the people amongst us, and it has been evident throughout the entire planning and preparation process, climaxing with tonight’s gala. Whether you are here this evening as a sponsor, donor, committee member or parent, know that you have made a difference. You made this night possible. You are impacting our students. This is my final Concordia Gala & Auction Mr. Pinick with his wife, Melanie at and I am excited about experiencing it the 2013 Gala & Auction together with all of you. I am, however, well aware of how an event of this magnitude is accomplished. I can see firsthand the level of commitment the auction committee has as they have planned and worked tirelessly to bless us all with each aspect of this evening. Each one has served enthusiastically, excelling in their own strengths, united for a greater cause: Building our STEM and Arts programs. Committed faculty and staff go above and beyond the call of duty to provide internal donations of parties and exciting leadership opportunities for students. Other faculty members support students while they create artwork that families can enjoy in their homes. Some manage the contractual relationships and partnerships, design the collateral and manage the communications. Others, privately provide once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for community members. Many serve on the night. Talented students from across the grades create artistic treasures that can only be purchased once a year at the annual gala and auction. Other students volunteer on the night of the event, generously serving the guests at check-in, facilitating the auction process, selling raffle tickets and assisting with check-out. Generous donors and partners provide items for the auction, sponsor the school and auction from their corporate and private funds; others provide in-kind services that enhance the charitable impact of the entire event. Finally, the guests who buy their tickets, dress in the spirit of the event, generously bid, support the project and enjoy the gala.

At Concordia, Fine Arts has been a focus of our academics since 1998. In 2005 all of the proceeds of the gala went to fund equipment for the Fine Arts program. Since that time, we have grown from a school of around 600 students to 1200 today. As you can see around campus, we have kept up the investment in Fine Arts while the school was growing. However, we believe that designating some auction funds to Fine Arts would enable us to supplement our program and support our Fine Arts faculty as they unleash the artistic talents of our students across the grades.

STEM WISH LIST & Arts

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) most often refers to education or to careers. Critical thinking and problem solving are skills inherent in STEM and these are alive and well at Concordia. In 2015, we designated an entire auction to STEM as a way to celebrate the many wonderful things that were already happening at the school in this arena.

All of the proceeds of the Heart of Concordia section of the auction will be designated to renew and update the equipment that our student artists use to express their creativity.

Auction Format Definitions

AUCTION FORMAT DEFINITIONS 12

Big Board Big Board showcases items differently so they don't get lost in the crowd. While the display is unique, the bidding style is the same as Classic Silent Auction or Sealed Bid auction as indicated on the item. Classic Live Auction (English Auction) Also known as an open ascending price auction, this type of auction is arguably the most common form of auction in use today. Participants bid openly against one another, with each subsequent bid higher than the previous bid. The auction ends when no participant is willing to bid further, at which point the highest bidder pays their bid and wins the item. Classic Silent Auction This style of auction is a variant of an English auction where bids are written on a sheet of paper. At the predetermined end of the auction the highest listed bidder wins the item. This auction is often used in charity events, with many items auctioned simultaneously with a common finish time. The auction is "silent" in that there is no auctioneer as bidders write their bids on a bidding sheet often left on a table near the item. The highest bidder pays the price he or she submitted and wins the item. Fishbowl Auction In a fishbowl auction, customers buy a number of tickets for a set price. Buyers are free to purchase as many tickets as they wish to place in the fishbowl. At the close of the auction, the winning ticket for each item is then drawn from the corresponding fishbowl. Pay to Play (P2P) A phrase used for a type of auction in which money is exchanged for the privilege of participating in an opportunity to win that item. The style of play is determined by the organization and one must pay to "get in the game". The winner of the â&#x20AC;&#x153;gameâ&#x20AC;? is the winner of the item being auctioned. Sealed Bid and Blended Sealed Bid Auction In this type of auction all bidders submit sealed bids so that no bidder knows the bid amount of other participants. The highest bidder at the close of the period pays the price they submitted. For our auction, the winner will be selected from a combination of email submissions and physical sealed bids received on the night of the gala and auction. These items are designated as Blended Sealed Bid in this catalog. Sign-up Party This type of party is sold at a fixed price to a maximum number of guests. If there is a line left on the bid sheet, space is still available at the party. Place your Bid Number in any open line and you are guaranteed a slot at the party. Once the allotted number of guests has been filled, the party is closed.

your Information Packet, which contains your Bid Number to use when you bid on an item. Note your Bid number is NOT the number on your entrance ticket.

• All items in this fundraising auction have been donated in whole or in

• All items in this auction are sold “as is” with no express or implied

guarantees or warranties except those that may be supplied by the donor or manufacturer.

• We have attempted to describe and catalog all items accurately. No

statement contained in this catalog or made orally during the auction shall be deemed a warranty or representation about the items’ authenticity, condition or value.

• Reservations for trips and vacation accommodations and redemption

of other prize certificates must be arranged with the donor unless otherwise noted. Failure, for whatever reason, to make the necessary arrangements within the time limit and according to the specified conditions and/or limitations imposes absolutely no obligation on the donor nor on Concordia International School Shanghai.

• Sale to another party by the winning bidder imposes no obligation on the

donor nor on Concordia International School Shanghai.

• All unfulfilled prizes are null and void after 12 months from

March 13, 2016.

• Winning bidders are solely responsible for removal of items won

on the evening of the auction. Neither the Kerry Hotel nor Concordia International School Shanghai are responsible for any purchased items that remain at the hotel at the close of the event. Complimentary shipping to your home in Shanghai of designated large items will be provided by AGS Fourwinds on Sunday, March 8, 2015. If you are unable to accept delivery on Sunday, March 8, the items will be delivered to Concordia International School Shanghai and you will need to arrange final delivery to your home.

• All times listed in the program are approximate with the exception of the

silent auction closing times and the dance floor closing times.

SILENT AUCTION

Begins at 5:30 p.m. with staggered closings by color as denoted below and in the Table of Contents. Closing Time 8:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. 10:30 p.m.

• All auction attendees may bid as many times as they wish. • The Opening Bid Amount for every item or grouping of items is noted

on the first line of each item’s Bid Sheet. The first bidder on each item or grouping of items may start the bidding equal to or greater than the Opening Bid Amount.

• Carefully note the Minimum Bid Increase indicated on each Bid

Sheet. Each new bid must increase the previous bid by the Minimum Bid Increase, otherwise the bid is considered void.

• To make a bid, use a ballpoint pen to legibly write your Bid Number

(found in your Information Packet), bid amount and name below the previous bid on the Bid Sheet.

• If the bid number and amount is complete at the sound of the gong at

closing time, the bid will be valid, even without the name.

• The highest bid on each item at the item’s specified closing time is

the winning bid. Due to the large number of items in this event, any item whose winner is not immediately apparent will be considered “Unresolved,” and will be addressed by the Marketing Department no later than Wednesday following the event.

• Winning Bid Number will be posted on a board in the foyer by item

number at the conclusion of the Silent Auction (approximately 10:45 p.m.).

• Step #2A: CASH/CHECK PAYMENT:

Auction winners may use cash (RMB) or U.S. check and invoice will be stamped "Paid" for item pick up (exchange rate will be set on the day of the auction).

• Step #2B: CREDIT CARD PAYMENT:

Auction winners may use credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Diner’s Club). Invoice will be stamped "Paid" for item pick up.

• Step #3:

DELIVERY INFORMATION FOR LARGE ITEMS: Complimentary next day delivery is available for designated large items. You must provide your address and show "Paid" invoice.

• Step #4:

VOUCHER PICK UP: If your invoice includes the word "voucher", please pick up your certificate at this station and not at the auction tables.

• Step #5:

8. Yunnan Family Adventure Trip Want your children to experience the gift of giving? Take them on this fourto-six day trip-of-a-lifetime to the countryside of Yunnan. BIG ASK: GROW Project Launch Since YEP was founded, the Concordia community has provided (more than) 342 high school scholarships, 71 middle school scholarships and 13 elementary school scholarships. These scholarship recipients now want to change the lives of other students, but they need our help. Proceeds from this item, will fund the launch of a new program reaching out to 'left-behind' children in Guangdong province. The GROW program trains university students who are previous recipients of CWEF high school scholarships and sends them out to serve as mentors for young rural primary students whose parents are living and working in the Pearl River Delta region. 150,000RMB is needed to launch this program. It is a big ask, but the Concordia community has big heart. Whether you give big or small, every donation changes lives! Generously funded by you!!

Three Concordia students started the Yunnan Education Project (YEP) in 2002 following a school service trip to work with the Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation (CWEF) in Chinaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Yunnan province. Since its inception, YEP has helped improve the lives of villagers in Yunnan through health education, sanitation projects, and clean water systems. Though YEP now stands for Youth Empowering Progress, it continues to offer support to CWEF, whose efforts have continued to grow and spread throughout China. There is even a school-wide YEP Club open to from Grade 2-12.

Resiliency Education: Advocacy, Collaboration & Hope program and other education related programs.
