Background On Guernsey accommodation for working staff is both scarce and in huge demand. Liberation Group operate an extensive portfolio of leisure facilities on the island and have significant need for rentable living space for employees. St Clare’s Court is a freehold building they own to facilitate this need.

“With St Clare’s Court we applied the same design principals as we would within one of our pubs or restaurants.

Brief To upgrade the existing staff accommodation to aspirational living spaces for existing employees and to help attract new staff.

We wanted an engaging and aspirational space, that was cost effective and hardwearing. The reaction from existing staff has been one of amazement and we now have the reputation for the best staff accommodation on the island that has certainly helped with recruitment.

The project included works to the communal areas including 35 bedrooms, managers accommodation reception area, office, lounge and dining area as well as communal kitchen and laundry room. Reconfiguration was required throughout to create en-suites to rooms with existing separate shared bathroom facilities as well as formation of a better managers accommodation area with an integrated living area/office space.

Budget £800,000 – this was a significant challenge but working closely with the client we were able to design and deliver a scheme to budget that both met their needs and exceeded the expectations of the staff residing on site.
