 Broad Street Townhouse is a passion project of ours and one we’ve long had in mind – since taking over the Pig & Fiddle pub next door back in 2015. It was a shame to see such a beautiful building, filled with original features, sat empty in disrepair - but so rewarding to get stuck into the renovation and bring it all back to life. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming our first overnight guests and inviting in the local people of Bath to experience our new café and bar

Butcombe Pubs & Inns have led the extensive renovation in partnership with Concorde BGW to sympathetically restore the building back to its former 19th century glory. The grade II listed property is built from traditional Bath limestone which dates back to 1885. The site was formally a music shop to the ground floor and a derelict office space on the 2nd and 3rd floors. A full external branding package was supplied to Broad Street, the branding emphasises its unique personality and establishes a different look for the building to help attract the right customers. The beautiful interiors offer a laid-back and luxurious home-from-home atmosphere.

Statement furniture and individual artwork are found throughout the bedrooms, each with kingsize beds, decorated with soft shades and leafy green plants. They have been furnished with every modern traveller’s needs – Wi-Fi, Roberts Radios, rain head showers, mini-fridges, and Smart TVs. The coffee shop on the ground floor welcomes both guests and non-residents for breakfast, lunch and coffee throughout the day. Furnished with one-off pieces and elegant marble effect tables for a classy look which compliments the buildings heritage. In the evening, the café will be transformed into The Blind Pig bar serving Butcombe beers, cocktails, local spirits, wines, charcuterie and

cheeses. The food offering contrasts with the classic pub favourites served by The Pig and Fiddle next door, also owned by Butcombe and refurbished by Concorde BGW in 2017. 26 new covers were added to Broad Street’s garden using loose furniture and bespoke timber fixed seating benches. Planting and a new wall look pretty and make the garden more private. The building is grade II listed so all works had to be agreed ahead of site. The cornicing and skirting were retained where possible as well as the stunning original wooden staircase in the coffee shop. Concrete alcoves were also uncovered, they date back to when the Townhouse was a tailor shop, so to create an authentic, historic aesthetic,

the coves were put to use with upholstered benches to create seats. This boutique hotel in Bath enjoys an unrivalled setting in the city centre within walking distance to the Baths and the famous Pulteney bridge. It is a stylish and unusual place to stay, is gloriously furnished and has luxurious comforts such as free-standing baths and king-size beds. The hotel café is a vibrant living room - the place to convene, converse and celebrate in a historic building with a modern interior.

The Mariners Rock Slipway, Rock, Cornwall. PL27 6LD Design | Furnish

The Mariners has been an institution since the 1860s and Paul and Emma Ainsworth wanted to develop this Cornish jewel allowing it to continue to be a destination for the local community and holidaymakers alike. Residing just across the Camel Estuary and formerly run by Paul’s friend Nathan Outlaw for five years, Paul and Emma jumped at the chance to evolve this local gem in partnership with Sharp’s Brewery. After acquiring the lease of The Mariners in Rock, Paul and Emma worked closely with Concorde BGW and an external design agency to develop the site. They wanted to express their own style in the pub and create a new casual luxury interior which reflects their all-day menu of pub favourites from an award-winning chef. The interiors have been created by Emma Ainsworth in collaboration with her chosen designer and Concorde BGW, to offer a warm and welcoming environment. Using understated tones with splashes of bright, luxurious textures have helped create the casual luxury style. The addition of oak panelling and antique lanterns give The Mariners a classic pub feel while the

colour palette across both floors features accents of warm reds, coppers, deep blues and greens which are complemented by stunning papered finishes. Concorde took on all the planning and design drawing submissions as well as developing the layout to support the new interior styling. There are new bars on both floors with the ground floor modelled as a traditional pub and bar and the first floor is an upmarket dining room with a mezzanine and balcony providing panoramic views of the bay. The new layout perfectly suits Paul and Emma’s plans to operate a restaurant and pub “full of warmth and happy memories, with food that aims to put a smile on your face and drinks to put a spring in your step.”

Sit & Sip

— 8 Peach Place, Peach St, Wokingham RG40 1AT Design | Build | Furnish

Sit & Sip, a new bar and dining experience for Wokingham is situated in the newly developed Peach Palace, a modern shopping and leisure development in the heart of the town. Having undergone an in-depth refurbishment in a unique, refined and rustic manner using stylish reclaimed and industrial materials, the site is now a shop with a superb outdoor space and is the perfect place to relax with friends and family over a craft beer or artisan gin. Bespoke bottle displays were created to showcase Sit & Sip’s different types of liquor and beer brands. They grab the attention of guests whilst creating a fun way of segregating the lounge from the bar. It has a tasting room concept, so the display of the latest flavours of craft beers, gin’s and products on offer is a faultless selling tool.

Photography: Ben Carpenter

As Peach Palace was a new development, the site was a blank canvas to mark with the Sit & Sip brand. Plenty of teal furniture and paint was used to ensure the site was on-brand but also because these colours help create intimate and romantic settings, perfect for a bar of this nature. The varying shades of blue were combined with an earthy colour palette which can be seen on the feature wood cladding on the walls, leather tub chairs and the framed artwork on the walls. Centrally, a large, bespoke bar captivates patrons with its rustic look, it has brightly lit displays and distinct “Sit & Sip” branded mosaic bar apron. The bar has a vintage feel and again embraces

an earthy colour palette - these are colours commonly found in nature and create a relaxed and welcoming environment often found in cafes or trendy restaurants. The lounge area features a selection of casual, loose furniture to allow Sit & Sip to reconfigure the space to suit the particular events such as “Tap Takeovers”. Sofas and tub chairs feature predominantly, they are comfortable enough for guests to sit in for a significant length of time whilst enjoying a drink from the bar or listening to an expert talk. The new boutique bar and bottle shop also has a superb outdoor space. Distinguishing the space are portable planters painted in teal. Hardwearing metal chairs combined with slatted benches and tables add further covers to what is expected to be a very popular city centre bar. Finally, the toilets were reconfigured to have a lobby area and also include baby change and a fully accessible WC. Overall, Sit & Sip brings a funky lounge vibe to the heart of the town, making it a great place to catch up with friends and family.

MadeSimple Office 20-22 Wenlock Rd, Hoxton, London N1 7GU Design | Build | Furnish

The brief was to create an office environment that is warm, welcoming, light and comfortable for both the MadeSimple team and the co-workers who use the place as a WorkHub. Maximising the use of all co-working spaces with different types of work stations was imperative in creating an office that can cater for multiple occupancy.

Walking into the building you are met with a light, airy and modern reception area. By changing the position of the disabled toilet immediately behind reception the space was opened up allowing for extra room for printers and pigeon holes behind the desk. The brief also required the MadeSimple office environment to be an extension of the MoneyPenny brand which wants to “blow the socks off every single one of their customers giving you the very best people, engaged in a happy working environment that are inspired to deliver excellence on your behalf”. The reception area communicates what kind of business you are to people as soon as they enter the building and at MadeSimple the message is clear - the neon sign is on trend, the planting is fun yet alternative and the organisation of the reception space portrays professionalism and delivering excellence.

The office space is vast and comprises of 2 meeting rooms, 3 private offices, communal work spaces, mail handling and print areas, multiple breakout areas, a canteen, a communal kitchen space, shower rooms/ bathrooms and outdoor terraces. A space this big meant special attention was paid to how the areas can be distinguished. Using high and low seating, seating booths, shelving and planting has helped group MadeSimple’s facilities and distinguish their work spaces. To cope with a busy work environment and the noise that it will bring, acoustic panels were installed in the booths and phone booths. Workhub’s goal is to motivate and inspire. That’s why every detail was covered, from how the space has been designed through to the little extras such as artwork with motivational quotes.

The meeting rooms are fully equipped and can accommodate up to 8 people each. These are private, bookable spaces which offer excellent connections including charging points, WIFI, TV screens and USB ports. The Hotdesks offer the same exceptional connectivity in a collaborative space. Overall the MadeSimple offices give a good impression to visiting clients, the different working zones make bold statements and the facilities are world class. Concorde BGW have helped MadeSimple to develop a structured, professional image that inspires confidence and loyalty.

 The Up in Arms has been a tremendous success! We have continued to develop a long-lasting and very fruitful relationship with Concorde BGW, we are now on site with our next project, The Last Crumb and can’t wait for that to open.

Leo Johnson Director & Owner of Dodo Pub Co.

— 241 Marston Road, Oxford Design | Build | Furnish

The Somerset pub on Marston Road has been rebranded as The Up In Arms after Dodo invested in the site to bring it back into business. Concorde BGW worked closely with Dodo to reincarnate the treasured local ensuring it has a unique and distinctive Dodo company style, familiar to anyone who has been inside the Rickety Press or Magdalen Road's Rusty Bicycle.

Photography: Ben Carpenter

The flexible premises is a combination of 1930s community pub and a new build bar, coffee hatch and garden. The older parts of the pub feature heavily textured wood-clad walls, old plaster finishes and colourful floor tiles, sitting in contrast with the clean, industrial and entertainment filled newer building – the combination underpinning the Dodo Pub Co style. In the new dining area, the open kitchen is the main attraction. Re designed with a window and carefully placed industrial tables, retro chairs, wooden benches and feature pendent lights to create a theatre where guests can see how Dodo cook their favourite dishes. Retaining the original fireplace and timber floors in this room highlights its heritage and helps create a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. The Up In Arms' bar has been moved from its central location to near the entrance and the new bar back fitting has been constructed from key clamp and scaffold to give it a Dodo twist. The toilets were also re-configured and refurbished with feature floor tiling and Belfast style basins.

Patrons can get their flat whites and americanos from the coffee station that has been built in what was previously the lobby at the front of the pub. The coffee station is complete with a wooden hatch which opens onto the street so passers-by can also indulge in the barista action. This quirky pub has a spacious beer garden with lawned and decked areas of chairs, wooden tables and heaters. A shipping container has been put in the back to host events including film screenings and live music performances. When the garden is not occupied with performers, customers can make use of the new external football and pingpong tables to entertain themselves. Resurrecting the exterior of this rundown pub has proudly marked the transition of the building and really made it stand out. Hand painted signage, new brass swan neck lighting and festoon lighting gives the pub street presence day and night. Overall, the brand has been showcased in a space that fits their personality. It has given Dodo the opportunity to host vendors, suppliers and partners, as well as their own events in the future. The new space is so inviting – the best part is that, when guests walk in, they all love it! dodopubs.com/locations/the-up-in-arms

Royal Naval Reserve — 28-30 High St, Whitstable CT5 1BQ Design | Build | Furnish

The Royal Naval Reserve, a pretty pub in the beautiful town of Whitstable has historic roots which date back to pre-Nelson times. The building is listed and has plenty of ageless charm which was maintained during its refurbishment. Artwork and bric-a-brac was inspired by the navy. Inside you will find a selection of themed trinkets that sailors might have collected on their travels, animated port holes and an abundance of artwork depicting distant shores hanging between ship lights which illuminate seating areas. The complexities of the refurbishment were substantial, as the building dates back to 1760 upgrading the existing premises to allow for a restaurant meant meticulous planning to retain important features was essential. Original oak beams and brick work were uncovered which add to the pubs historic style. The restaurant and pub areas have a total of 55 covers spread across a selection of comfortable yet stylish fixed and loose seating. A carefully curated selection of carpets, tiling and lighting has further distinguished the dining and drinking areas. The bar is battened down with a teak ‘boat deck’ front and is complete with brass cleats and framed with

reclaimed antique bar stools and captain chairs. You can imagine patrons spending boatloads of time in their favourite chair tasting the delightful drinks this Shepherd Neame pub has to offer. The site has a lot of outdoor space that was not being used to its full potential, so all hands were on deck to create a terrace to raise the pubs profile. The newly landscaped garden has a luscious planting scheme and plenty of benches which adds a further 30 covers to the sites total. The refurbishment has brought life back to this lovely local boozer, rigged with lots of aquatic touches: vintage porthole windows, locally sourced maps and navigation charts. This new nautical pub and restaurant is bringing the shore to the town centre.

 Having previously worked with Concorde on the Exmouth Arms it has been great to renew our working relationship with them. They have delivered a really great product at the Rose & Crown which is trading exceptionally well along with some smaller schemes throughout our estate which have all been well recieved.

Ben Stackhouse Founder & CEO of PubLove

The Rose & Crown — 65 Union St, London, London, SE1 1SG

Among the facilities at this property are a 24-hour front desk and a tour desk, along with WiFi throughout the property. The Rose & Crown is one of the newest additions to the PubLove family. Boasting an awardwinning burger kitchen which also serves all day brunch as well breakfast. The pub on the ground floor has undergone a magnificent refurbishment allowing it to continue to serve an impressive selection of craft beer and gin, with a focus on Londonstyle products. Mingled amongst the new neon signs, metal rafters and industrial lighting is traditional wooden furniture and bespoke pieces upholstered in teal and mustard yellow colours. With the entirety of the upper floors being occupied by a brand-new hostel, it isn't a shock to see the locals and hostel-guests mingling at the bar. The handsome new hostel accommodation above the pub has 3 dormitory’s with 12, 9 or 6 bunks. The bunks are triple tiered, encased with wood-effect panelling for more privacy and each level is branded with a bunk number. Luggage storage and security lockers have been provided with token lounging furniture which creates a comfortable and cosy hangout space. The teal walls contrast beautifully with the yellow window sashes for a bright and playful effect which matches the pub below.

The shared shower room and toilets are newly created. Efficient use of the compact space has allowed for 2 or more showers to each of the bathrooms. The pick of the rooms is the standalone double room with its own private bathroom, clothes hanging space and views of the city. Hidden behind the pub is a spacious terrace with highwalls decorated with colourful paintings of plants. Several canteen-style benches and new fixed benches across the back can accommodate an ample amount of pub and hotel guests. Located right in the centre of the city, Rose & Crown is just walking distance from lots of major London attractions - Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, London Tower and Borough Market making it a very popular destination for many global travellers visiting the UK. This is a pub and hostel for all seasons and inside, you’ll find a friendly, cosy atmosphere, traditional style with plenty of history.
