GRUPO MÉXICO INFORMA | December

Dear colleagues,
A fundamental aspect of the safety culture that characterizes us is to be prepared for contingencies, and we are. Last September, Hurricane Ian strongly hit the Florida. Thanks to the teamwork and strategy applied by the FEC of the Transport Division, we were able to overcome this situation with practically no damage.
in our company as well as in the economy of the state and the country.
Last August, Americas Mining Corporation (AMC) joined the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative that seeks to encourage the participation of companies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. AMC membership is another proof of our commitment towards environmental protection.
Our social commitment has been recognized in di erent areas and by di erent actors. Thus, we are proud to share that Grupo México Infraestructura was recently recognized as a Socially Responsible Company by the Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía AC.
Fundación Grupo México, through our Corporate Volunteer program, Vagón Verde and with the cooperation of public and philanthropic state institutions, carried out a series of reforestation activities in the state of Jalisco.
In 1982, our Electrolytic Zinc Plant, whose operation is based on the treatment of zinc concentrate to produce metallic zinc, was inaugurated in San Luis Potosi, marking a milestone in the economic history of this state.
Zinc is a fundamental metal in industrial production since it is used for galvanizing, which is the process of coating other metals to make them less corrosive. This process is used, for example, in steel sheets indispensable in the automotive industry, among others.
Zinc plays a critical role in the conversion process to a green economy; through its use in solar and wind technologies because, among other things, zinc coatings protect solar panels and wind turbines and prevent oxidation and used in electric batteries.
For its location, in the Bajío region close to major automotive centers in the nation and well-connected to the most important cities in the country: Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, Electrolytic Zinc Plant is e ciently involved in national and international value chains.
Due to the importance of its production and its strategic position, the Electrolytic Zinc Plant has played a crucial role in the economic development of the state and the country
Last August, Americas Mining Corporation (AMC) was confirmed as a participant in the United Nations Global Compact. With this participation, AMC rea rms its interest in aligning its policies and strategies, and its operations to the Ten Universal Principles of the Global Compact.
AMC's adherence to the Global Compact comes on top of sustained progress in its performance in global assessments related to transparency as well as the implementation and the achievement of environmental, social and governance best practices, such as the obtention of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications at its mining units and the initiation of the process to gain the Copper Mark at La Caridad Mine and Sonora Metallurgical Complex.

THANKS TO ITS COMMITMENT TO SAFETY IN ITS OPERATIONS, WHICH LED IT TO DEVELOP A SPECIFIC PROTOCOL FOR THIS PURPOSE, FLORIDA EAST COAST (FEC) RAILWAY MANAGED TO KEEP THE RAILROAD OPEN DURING THE PASSAGE OF HURRICANE IAN
Hurricane Ian, a category 4 hurricane with more than 240/kph winds, passed through West Florida at the end of September, causing severe flooding in diverse regions.
fatalities and extensive damage to infrastructure and homes, making it one of the deadliest hurricanes in recent U.S. history.
In this adverse context, the Florida East Coast Railway service followed an emergency protocol that prioritizes the safety of its employees and the cargo it transports. This protocol ensured that the rail network remained open, thanks to a strategy in which, while closing the operation in the southern part of the Florida peninsula, the operation in the northern part was maintained, and vice versa.
A war room was installed with 24/7 monitoring during the storm and the line reopening process.
At intermodal terminals, frame cranes were secured and anchored to loaded containers. Cars and locomotives were removed from areas prone to flooding to prevent damage to the rolling mechanisms.
Work and inspections by field personnel were restricted in winds over 45 miles per hour.
Shutdowns were staggered as the hurricane advanced over the state of Florida. This resulted in a white balance and the least possible impact on service.
The teamwork and strategy implemented by the FEC reflect the culture that characterizes Grupo México in terms of operational safety, contingency prevention and commitment to the customers and communities it serves.
However, as time passed, it began to provide supplies along the peninsula and gradually changed its initial vocation.
TJ Max, Home Goods, Marshalls and Hobby Lobby, among many others.
Annually, FEC transports between 12 and 15 thousand containers of consumer goods for the main Caribbean islands, from the US Virgin Islands to Puerto Rico and the Bahamas, thanks to close business relationships with regional shipping lines such as Seaboard Marine, Crowley and Tropical Shipping.
Transcaer is a program who seeks to prepare communities to respond to possible emergencies related to the transportation of hazardous materials. Transcaer o ers courses to attain this goal. For this program, GMXT has a school tank car for this purpose, where the practical tests of the seminar are carried out.
The tank truck is designed so that the first responders and people trained in it can learn the proper handling of the valves, the inspection information of this unit, and identify the safety measures installed in a tank truck. The tank truck has leak simulators that allow for practice so that in the event of a real situation they can decide whether an actualdetermine to confront the emergency.
Hosted by Grupo México Transportes, this year for the first time in Mexico, the Transcaer Mexico chapter meeting was held with the "Seminar on emergency response to flammable liquid emergencies.” It took place on October 5 and 6 at GMXT´s train station in Veracruz.
The seminar, in which seven experts from Mexico and the United States participated, had three objectives:
