A bill authored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell will all residents to have access to critical health services

HANKS to a bill introduced by Holly J. Mitchell, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion that invests a total of $20 million dollars of

Los Angeles County’s unallocated Measure B funding over the next four years to help support the operational needs of Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH). The motion authorized by Mitchell, who represents Compton among other cities, allows the County’s Department of Health Services to allocate $8 million in one-time Measure B funding to be released to MLKCH and an additional $4 million up

until the fiscal year 2026-2027. “We have a responsibility to help ensure Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital has the funding it needs to continue to provide excellent healthcare services to our communities. It is a vital County institution providing lifesaving care to thousands of residents from communities that have historically faced limited access to quality health services,” said Supervisor Mitchell. “This n Campaign, see page 8

Spring registration open at Compton College

COLLEGE OFFERS MANY FREE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT STUDENTS’ SUCCESS Registration is open for all students at Compton College for the spring semester 2024, which begins on Feb. 10. Beginning Feb. 3, the college will offer extended hours to get in-person assistance with the enrollment and class registration process. Compton College also offers a

schedule of virtual workshops each week to assist with the admissions application, registration for classes, and completion/submission of applications for financial aid. “As a recent graduate of Compton College, I am taking Certified Nursing Assistant classes during the spring 2024 semester to increase my

skill set and certifications while I await my acceptances to registered nursing programs for this coming fall,” said Shyanne Bradley. Enrolled students have access to a complete menu of support services to help them succeed. Compton College provides financial, academic, and technical support for those in

need such as financial aid, tutoring, book vouchers, free laptop and Wifi hotspot loans, free Metro GoPass, free parking pass, and one free meal per day at on-campus Everytable cafe (through June 30, 2024), an on-campus food pantry and $20 in vouchers to use at the weekly n Registration, see page 8
