GLOWING DANCE PARTY From toddlers to teens, everyone appreciates a good dance party. There are so many fun ideas to customize this theme for all ages. I’m actually planning a Rockin’ Dance Party for my son’s fourth birthday this year because he always seems to be dancing. This theme is a high-energy party that will leave the guests dancing and singing along. You’ll want to have a big buffet table of snacks to fuel all that energy needed for dancing.

Performance, Best Lip-Synching, etc.

Invitations:

• bubble machine on the dance floor

A fun idea for an invitation is to create something that looks like a ticket to an exclusive event. If your party has a rock star portion to it, these could be made to look like VIP Backstage Passes.

• white t-shirts and glowing fabric paint for kids to make their own shirts

Party Decorations:

• karaoke machine

There are many options for decorating a dance-themed party. Decorations are easy to find, and you’ll find several items at the dollar store, big-box retailers, party supply stores and more! Several of the party items pictured here are from one of my favourite Canadian places to shop for party supplies: www. PartyStock.ca.

• lip-syncing competition

• balloons that light up (fill these with helium to light up the ceiling) • glow sticks, necklaces, bracelets, etc. • black tablecloth for the table and backdrop • disco ball • disco rainbow light • black light • neon tape for wrapping boxes as cake stands • neon tassel banner • neon paper plates and napkins • backdrop of splashed glow paint • TV and DVD for watching music videos • an area designated for dancing If you are the crafty type who loves DIY projects, here are a few projects you could tackle for the party: • making microphone stands for the kids (could double as a party favor) • making a stage for lip-synching or karaoke performances • making awards to hand out for silly things like Best Dance 34 |

Party Activities: For the younger crowd, a DVD of age-appropriate singing and dancing may be all you need to entertain the little ones. For the older kids, there are more fun activities you can set up other than just dancing.

• glow-in-the-dark makeup, lip gloss, hair spray or clip-in extensions, etc.

• photo booth with rock star accessories like wigs, sunglasses, inflatable guitars, microphones and more • dancing video game • Name That Tune game (first person to shout out the name of each song wins a point)
