IMPACT REPORT 2021-2022 DONOR

Mission Statement

With the help of Grace, to form a Catholic community of faith who cultivates beauty, truth, goodness, communion, and justice. Vision Statement

A people in right relationship with God and their community.

Dear Newman Family

Let us walk in the light of the Lord (Is. 2:5)

Sometimes it seems like a looong path! And sometimes a dark path. Our world is rocked by war, violence, lingering effects of the pandemic, and plenty of confusion regarding identity and the value of life. The quote from Isaiah doesn’t say that we’re walking a beautiful path, but rather that we walk it by the light of the Lord. We’re to bring the Lord’s light to the long and dark roads we’re given in this world.

Newman must be that kind of beacon for others, not running away from the difficult paths, but bringing the light of the Lord to every encounter! Our economic path is not always secure, but we’re determined not to lessen the ministry of light we bring to our college campuses. We’re so grateful for your partnership with us in bringing light—hope—to all we encounter. Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we keep walking the difficult paths! Your gift helps us walk in the light of the Lord.

Peace and All Good,

Encounter

An even deeper relationship with Christ

As a practicing Catholic my whole life, and having attended a public university for the past two years, I am so blessed to be able to be a part of such an amazing faith-filled community at the Newman Center. Campus ministry has done an amazing job promoting the teachings of Christ, and we are all so blessed to have such amazing ministers here at Mizzou. By going on retreats, spending time at the Newman center, and meeting new people, I have deepened my relationship with God here at Newman, and I am so blessed to have such amazing campus ministry staff here!

Thank you to all the donors for making the Newman Center a home for myself and so many others. Without you, none of the amazing things that happen here at Newman would be possible!

Grow and ServeLiving in faith is rooted in community...

Allie Santini, MU Junior

I’ll be a junior this year pursuing dual degrees in Biochemistry and Journalism, and when people hear that they usually ask, “why”? Or sometimes, “how”? I’ll save the why for another time, but the how is simple. Without God working in my life through this Newman community, the blessings that have come from the past two years would not have been possible.

I had a plan for college, then boom. COVID. (Sound familiar to anyone?) I knew that I wanted to continue practicing my faith at Mizzou, but I didn’t know to what degree. I wanted to love Jesus while still being considered a secular person. But even when faced with rapidly changing events, Newman’s dedication to faith helped me feel welcome during the crazy first couple months. While retreats at Newman have been important to me (and instrumental in many of my friends’ journeys), the event that got me interested in a deeper relationship with Jesus was actually a game night hosted at Newman in the dead of winter. There, I decided that I wanted to be a part of the Newman community even before I knew why. I began attending adoration to see my friends and soon, Jesus became the person I came to see.

The ministries that bring students face-to-face with Jesus on a daily basis prepare our hearts for a lifelong relationship with Him. Frs. Dan and Paulinus- our wonderful priests here- offer Mass, adoration and confession every weekday as well as celebrating Mass on the weekends. I see God so much in their dedication. .

Living in faith is ultimately rooted in community, and this group of people continues to amaze me with their faith and openness.

This year I am incredibly blessed to act as Mizzou Catholic’s president and to help plan student events for the 2022-2023 school year! Mizzou Catholic is a student organization that exists to bring people together through good times and faith-based service. We operate closely with this Newman center and help build eachother up through community events. I’ve found that both faith and friends are instrumental to following Christ on campus.

I want to close with a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donates or contributes in any way to this Newman center. The ministries you support have transformed my faith and I see God working in the hearts of more and more students every day. Please continue to pray for all the students and staff- both present and incoming- that we all draw closer to Christ.
