A collaboration is a crucial two-way dialogue between you and your teachers, aimed at advancing your knowledge and understanding from developing to consolidating, or from consolidating to secured, for a given key objective (KO). This is essential to ensure progress in all your subjects and to achieve the grades you deserve in your GCSE examinations.

Collaboration can take place in two ways: your teacher may provide additional resources to help secure your understanding in a KO, or you can submit independent work to your teacher for evaluation, and if the quality is high, your judgement will be updated. The DPR resource portal is an excellent tool for independent work!

The following are the expectations for a good collaboration:

Respond to any collaboration tasks set by your teachers within 7 days

Work should be submitted back to your teacher through the collaboration portal

Complete to the best of your ability to move up from developing or consolidating, to secured SHAPE all of your responses

Collaborate with your teachers every week.

Don’t wait for your teachers – take the initiative to reach out to them through DPR to help secure yourself in every KO! Students who do this are more likely to get higher grades in their exams.

Step 1

On the dashboard, click on the subject tile you would like to collaborate.

Step 2

Identify the key objective (KO) that you would like to collaborate on. Start with the KO that you’re developing on, and then click on the speech bubbles.

Step 3

You will need to send your teacher high quality work for them to update your KO judgements. You can do one of the following:

- Work independently by using resources from the resource tab found when you click on the KO (see image).

- If you are not sure what to do to secure yourself in a given KO, you can ask your teacher to send you resources that you can use.

Step 4

Once the work is completed, you now need to submit it to your teacher. There are several ways this can be done. For example, you can click on the paper clip or google drive icon and upload a document for your teacher, or you can use the mic (works really well for MFL, Drama and Music!)

Step 5

Your teacher will review your work, and if the work was completed to a high standard, they will update your KO judgement. Sometimes, the teacher may ask a follow up question to help you secure your KO

Ensure that you are responding to their feedback to secure your KO!

Example 1: In the case of Lola, a good collaboration involves timely and thoughtful responses to the task set by her teacher. She not only completed the task promptly, but also took the time to SHAPE her response, taking into account the feedback provided by her teacher and improving her work. This resulted in a more secure understanding of the KO in question.

Example 2: For Barley, a good collaboration involved meeting the deadline and producing high-quality work. By completing the task before the deadline, Barley showed a commitment to the learning process and a willingness to engage with the material. The teacher’s judgement that the KO had been secured indicates that Barley was successful in this effort.

Example 1 Example 2

Example 3: For Saarah, a good collaboration involved meeting the deadline and producing high-quality work. By completing the task before the deadline, Saarah showed a commitment to the learning process and a willingness to engage with the material. The teacher’s judgement that the KO had been secured indicates that Saarah was successful in this effort.

Example 3

The Resource Portal is an essential part of the DPR, serving multiple benefits to both students and teachers. It includes fundamental material that supports and enhances students’ understanding of topics they may struggle with, ensuring that they receive the support needed to reach their full academic potential through the Resource Portal,

Students have access to exam questions, lesson slides, and links to useful websites to consolidate their knowledge on a given key objective (KO). The Resource Portal can also be used as a revision tool, as it includes revision packs for students to refer to when revising. This is pivotal because it allows students to review missed content before tests. The Resource Portal provides students with valuable access to additional work related to the school curriculum.

Additionally, teachers also benefit from the Resource Portal as it enables them to adjust students’ DPR evaluations of their KO’s based on the work available on the portal, which aligns with the lessons taught in class.

Teachers can also use the portal to provide additional support to underperforming students or challenge high-performing students by assigning them more challenging topics through collaboration.

The resource portal is an accessible and vital tool; it includes tasks of all abilities which allows eager learners to always have a place where they can obtain extra worksheets and always be engaged in their learning. It ensures they are fully equipped with the crucial resources needed for their academic success at Forest Gate Community School.

I find the DPR to be highly beneficial as teachers provide additional work that is evaluated and accompanied by feedback via collaborations. This feedback enables me to refine my examination technique, as I am less likely to repeat mistakes with further practice.

For instance, my English teacher recently assigned a group project on a frequently appearing exam question. Although it required a significant amount of time to complete, I submitted it promptly. My English teacher provided feedback and returned it to me shortly after my submission. Upon receiving her feedback, I plan to use it to enhance my future responses to similar questions.

Assignments are an important tool for both students and teachers. For us students, assignments provide a way to demonstrate understanding of a topic, refresh memory, and develop skills. They also offer the opportunity to identify areas where further attention is needed to refine knowledge and skills. Assignments are a clear indicator of a student’s level of knowledge, without being overly time-consuming or stressful.

Teachers can use assignments to assess students’ knowledge and determine which subjects may need to be explained or taught again. Assignments also allow teachers to evaluate the effectiveness and comprehensibility of their current teaching methods,

enabling them to reflect and improve. Furthermore, assignments can be used to track improvements or declines in our ability and to identify students who are eager to learn and those who need additional support.

In conclusion, assignments play an important role in education by helping us to continue learning outside of the classroom, foster a love of knowledge, and cultivate a desire to succeed.

Sara Seedat, year 10
