About Us Stoke City Football Club’s Community Trust was founded in 1989 and became a registered charity in 2004.

Formerly known as the Club’s Football in the Community scheme, the Trust engages with people in many varied ways to stimulate an environment in which they can realise their potential and subsequently accomplish more in whatever walk of life they choose for personal and professional development.

The power of sport, particularly football, is used to engage with people of all ages, abilities and social backgrounds. The Trust is committed to inclusion work, promoting health and wellbeing, and improving education.

As well as providing sporting opportunities for young people to

pursue and enjoy a more active lifestyle, programmes also stimulate a more positive outlook for others in need of encouragement and support, regardless of their economic status or physical ability.

The Trust is devoted to the community it serves. Within the catchment areas of Stoke-onTrent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire Moorlands, Stafford, South Staffordshire and parts of North-West Shropshire, we contact and attempt to benefit the lives of over 100,000 children and young participants each year.

Self-funding and financially independent of Stoke City Football Club, the Trust is accountable to a Board of Trustees. These include former MP for Stoke South Robert Flello, Senior Partner at Beswicks Gary Mellor, Denis Smith, who made over 400 City appearances between 1966 and 1982, and ex-Stoke striker Chris Iwelumo.

Since the Club won promotion to the Premier League in 2008, the Trust has developed remarkably, from a highly respected deliverer of football courses to a leading

provider of sporting, education and social programmes.

ADVANCED TRAINING CENTRES The Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) are the first steps for aspiring footballers to move into the Stoke City player pathway and are based across North Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

At the ATCs, we teach the most promising and talented young players between the ages of 5 and 12.

Players are invited to attend one of our centres where Academy scouts and coaches regularly attend and subsequently make referrals to the next level of the Club’s pathway.

At the centres, players will be challenged technically, tactically, physically and psychologically in accordance with our delivery programmes. We play regular competitive fixtures against other Advanced Training Centres as well as other professional Clubs.

The aim of the ATCs is to create an environment where players are encouraged to be creative and expressive.

The Trust currently runs 12 ATCs, including a specific goalkeeping ATC.

PREMIER LEAGUE PRIMARY STARS Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

Stoke City’s Primary Stars offer consists of our Continual Professional Development Physical Education programme as well as innovative delivery in English, Maths and PSHE. Continual Professional Development – We offer training support and guidance on all aspects of Physical Education, including policy and curriculum. Training can be individual, whole school or key stage based. Once an action plan is developed, we assist in the professional development of staff in the preparation, delivery and assessment of Physical Education- either on a 1 to 1 basis or as whole school based training.

Premier League Reading Stars – The programme is a 10-week English intervention proven to raise reading levels for targeted under-achieving Year 5/6 pupils.

Teachers are able to receive guidance and delivery lessons themselves or, alternatively, utilise Stoke City Community staff to read with pupils, act as positive role models and delivery physical activity during sessions to

compliment the reading that takes place.

Stoke City Primary Stars Literacy Programme – This programme utilises Stoke City staff and resources to improve the Literacy skills of Key Stage 2 pupils.

Resources include video footage of Stoke City matches as well as match programmes, interviews and reports which will encourage pupils to write for pleasure and expand their vocabulary. The programme ends with a video to the bet365 Stadium where children will apply their skills by conducting interviews in our Media Suite.

Active Maths – Our practical lessons take place outside of the classroom and use physical activity as a way of raising attitudes and attainment in Maths. They provide an enjoyable alternative to classroom based learning and promote active learning. The games actively help develop an understanding of key areas of the Mathematics curriculum, in particular fluency, problem solving and reasoning.

Healthy Potters - Stoke City’s Healthy Lifestyles programme consists of six lessons and can be delivered to both key stage 1 and key stage 2 pupils. The programme is based around healthy eating and can be delivered as a classroom activity, or a mixture of classroom and practical. The Community Trust also host a Healthy lifestyles day at the bet 365 stadium. Content of the day can be adapted to suit an individual school’s needs, can be tailored to either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 pupils and can be used as an enrichment day, targeted intervention or reward day.

Potter Play Leader – This is an introduction into leadership for pupils in Year 4 and above and will give children the knowledge of how to organise small games and activities that can take place during curricular and extra-curricular time. The Potter Play Leader develops leadership skills such as organisation, communication

and teamwork and upon completion, pupils will received a Leadership journal certificate.

Assemblies & Collapsed Curriculum Days – Stoke City assemblies follow PSHE themes to ensure pupils develop the knowledge and skills they need to keep themselves healthy and safe. Schools can choose assembly themes ranging from playground behaviour to resilience. Collapsed Curriculum Days involve pupils being taken off normal timetable for enrichment opportunities that may consist of children rotating around carousel of activities such as a healthy eating workshop, multi sports session or a disability awareness session.

Extra-Curricular Clubs – We provide lunchtime and after school clubs to all year groups, with a range of sports offered. Delivery can take place over a half term, full terms or the whole year, with the following sports delivered: Football, Cricket, Tri-Golf, Tag Rugby, Gymnastics, Netball, Rounders, Athletics, Tennis, Hockey, Multi-sports, Basketball.

Day in the Life – The programme takes participants behind the scenes at Stoke City Football Club and is an ideal way for schools to educate their pupils around future employment opportunities. Schools visit the bet365 Stadium for a half or full day and gain insight from employees such as the Head Groundsman or staff from the Commercial or Catering departments.

Penalty Shootout Fundraiser – Shootout fundraisers offer schools the opportunity for children to raise money for the school as well as allowing them to gain Stoke City branded prizes. Pupils take penalties against the club mascot Pottermus, with the money raised being split 50/50 between the school and the Stoke City Community Trust. The shootout takes place over a seven-week window and consists of an assembly, penalty shootout day and a presentation event.

DISABILITY PROGRAMME Stoke City Community Trust work alongside a number of local and national partners, including the Premier League and British Telecom, to grow the number and shape of accessible activities available at Stoke City.

With the help of National Governing Bodies- the NHS, Social Services and a number of local Advocacy Groupswe have been able to develop a range of activities that meet the needs of local children, young people and adults who have a disability.

We offer various types of sessions; Ability Counts provides access to football participation, our Mental Health sessions offer adults with medium to long term mental health issues a chance to play football alongside peers in a safe and supportive environment and we are growing our visually impaired, deaf and cerebral palsy football activities in line with demand.

Our match day activities include; access to our Match Day Accessible Room for different advocacy groups and we continue to pilot a Match Day Respite service supporting carers and the people they care for to attend the game. We are working alongside Staffordshire FA, Action for Blind People, DeafVibe, North Staffs Aspergers and Autism Association, North Staffs Deaf Children Society, Aiming High (Action for Children), the County Sports Partnership, the Activity Alliance, Stoke on Trent City Council Public Health & Social Care and other advocacy organisations to develop and deliver high quality activities / interventions that meet the needs and aspirations for all the populations that we reach.

WOMEN & GIRLS Stoke City’s Women and Girls project is aimed at increasing female participation in football. With almost three million active female players, football is the biggest women’s team sport in England.

The project offers free sessions to girls aged 14 and offer, with an emphasis on innovative delivery, including Glow in the Dark football. We also hold half-term girl only soccer schools for children aged between 6 and 15 years old.

Sport England funding via the FA has helped see a major increase in participation and provide regular opportunities for hundreds of young females across the region to represent Stoke City in competitions.

Stoke City Ladies are established in the third tier of the female game, playing in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, and the project enables a pathway to that level.

In conjunction with the Ladies setup is the Stoke City Regional Talent Club (RTC), which provides elite development opportunities for female footballers aged 8 to 16.

FOOTBALL EDUCATION ACADEMY The Community Trust offer a unique opportunity to represent the Club in either 11-a-side football or futsal through the English Football League Trusts (EFLT) league programmes.

The programme provides exciting opportunities for talented male and females to combine studies alongside continuing their development within football or futsal.

The Community Trust programme offers 16-19 year olds (up to 24 years old with a disability) the opportunity to learn, train, play and work.

Through Stoke-on-Trent College, participants will study on a course suitable to their level (from a BTEC Level 1 up to a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport) based at the college’s Cauldon Campus and the bet365 Stadium.

Participants will train for 4-6 hours a week with qualified UEFA and FA coaches and play competitive football or futsal, representing Stoke City Community Trust in EFLT league and cup competitions.

Additionally, successful applicants will gain valuable work experience within the Community Trust setup.

FOUNDATION DEGREE Stoke City Community Trust’s two-year Foundation Degree programme is a course designed for individuals wanting to attain a university qualification and are passionate about pursuing a career in the football industry.

Delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales, all lectures, seminars and tutorials are delivered in a supportive and inspirational club environment via online material.

Together with the academic component of the course, students will complete 200 hours of voluntary coaching within the community, via the tutorship of Community Trust and Academy staff. This allows students to embed and develop their coaching techniques that have been learnt in lectures.

Following the completion of the course, students will receive a Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development.

HEALTH & WELLBEING The Community Trust has experience of delivering activities designed to help local people improve healthy decision making.

We have delivered Weight Management, Healthy Eating & Cooking, Physical Activity and Family Health Education and Support.

When required, we have developed, in association with different organisations, bespoke health improvement activities based on the needs of populations, localities and communities. We regularly work with Schools, Public Health Services, the NHS, Doctors Surgeries, Mental Health Organisations, Children / Family Centres and other charitable organisations to help support and improve the health of the populations these organisations reach.

Our walking football offer is well established and provides an exciting football playing experience for those who are 50 years old and above, delivered at the Club’s Academy Dome across three days of the week.

Each walking football session involves a technical warm-up followed by a match where Walking Football rules apply, such as no jogging, running or sprinting. This session is supported and overseen by a UEFA B qualified coach. Our Mental Health football activities engage a large number of adult participants linked to local NHS and community mental health service support.

FUNDRAISING The Stoke City Community Trust delivers a range of fundraising events throughout the calendar year.

Introduced in 2016, Stoke City’s ‘Big Sleep Out’ raises awareness of homelessness within the city, with participants braving the elements to spend one evening sleeping inside the concourse of the bet365 Stadium. The event raises much needed funds for local homeless charities.

The Stoke-on-Trent Festival of Running gives runners of all ages and ability the opportunity to put on their shoes and take to the streets of the city and raise money for charitable causes. The 10K, 5K and Fun Runs start and finish at the bet365 Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Community Trust’s annual charity parachute jump is open to anyone over the age of 16, with all participants raising a minimum of £370 for a jump that takes place from Tilstock Airfield in Whitchurch.

Additionally, an annual bike ride takes place at different locations each year, to raise money for the Community Trust.

These are just four examples of the Trust’s yearly fundraising events and our innovative fundraising team are always on the look-out for fresh opportunities to raise funds for much needed causes that are close to the hearts of the football club.

The Stoke City Community Fund is a major community initiative which makes a difference to the lives of many local people.

Fund-raising activities such as the above generate significant sums of money for local groups, projects, community groups and self-help organisations.

Local projects are able to apply for a grant from the Stoke City Community Fund.

PREMIER LEAGUE KICKS Stoke City’s Premier League Kicks project provides opportunities for young people to play sport whilst giving back to their communities through volunteering.

The project aims to create opportunities for young people in high need areas to access free football and other sports in a safe and fully inclusive environment.

In turn, young people develop their skills through structured volunteering, allowing them to progress into positive pathways.

Talented players are identified through the project and are given the opportunity to realise their potential through the Stoke City pathway.

Pathways are also created to training, education and employment.

The Kicks project works with partners to help minimise anti-social behaviour within communities whilst creating safe, strong and more active environments.

Free sessions are put on at various locations throughout Stoke-on-Trent and participants have the opportunity to access local, regional, national and international competitions. Select participants are chosen by Kicks coaches as a reward for good behaviour and regular engagement.

All participants have the chance to wear the famous red and white stripes, travel to other clubs and engage with new friends.

SOCCER SCHOOLS The Community Trust continue to host popular soccer schools throughout the region, allowing children aged between 6 and 12 to develop their football skills through expert coaching.

The schools are also designed to allow participants to learn to work as part of a team whilst having plenty of fun. Skills sessions, penalty shoot-out competitions and small-sided games help make the schools an enjoyable and memorable experience for youngsters.

Individuals who progress have the opportunity to be referred to the Club’s development centres, Academy or Girls Regional Talent Club.

The soccer schools run every school holiday, including half-terms.

WEEKEND COACHING CLUBS We offer weekend coaching clubs on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Stoke City Academy Dome for six to 12-year-olds.

At each two-hour session, the weekend coaching clubs focus heavily on fun, with competitions such as penalty shoot-outs and ball juggling contests regularly taking place, with an array of prizes to be won.

There is no need to book in advance- just bring appropriate clothing for indoor football, a drink and trainers.

One-hour sessions are also put on for four to six-year-olds on Sunday mornings.

PREMIER LEAGUE ENTERPRISE PL Enterprise Core

PL Enterprise Challenge

The PL Enterprise Core programme is an exciting, innovative and free programme designed to inform and educate young people in the area of business and enterprise using Stoke City Football Club as a case study. It is a targeted programme for pupils in Key Stage 3.

The PL Enterprise Challenge is a national competition launched in September each year.

Typically, the Core Programme is delivered over 12 workshops both in a school or education establishment and at the Club over a minimum of 20 hours of direct contact time. During this time, the programme aims to improve participants’ confidence, self-esteem and self-efficacy; improve attitude to learning and motivation to learn and improve knowledge of business operations as well as beginning to develop the initial skills needed in business such as communication, teamwork, initiative, creativity, organisation and problem solving.

The programme includes two visits to the stadium for activities and a stadium tour as well as incentives for participants that contribute well and excel in sessions.

PL Enterprise is also an excellent window into the world of work, providing the opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at a professional football club and highlighting the vast array of different career paths that exist.

Selected schools are invited to take part and enter a team that works to produce a business idea to meet the challenge set by the Premier League Executive Chairperson. The teams are then invited to the stadium to take part in a club heat where they pitch their idea “Dragons' Den” style to a panel of Stoke City judges.

The winning team then goes on to represent Stoke City FC in the regional play-off in competition with five other clubs for the right to compete in the final in London at the headquarters of EY Global. In 2019, a team of pupils from Ormiston Meridian Academy representing Stoke City successfully made it through to final and went on win the entire competition to national acclaim.

The challenge is open to students that have completed or are currently participating in the PL Enterprise Core Programme and builds on the business skills that they learn here including boosting confidence, improving teamwork, leadership, communication, creativity and massively raising aspirations.

INTERNATIONAL Stoke City Community Trust use their strong overseas links to provide football opportunities whilst raising awareness of equality and diversity on an international level.

Regular visits are undertaken to countries including United States of America, Norway, Sweden, Finland, China and South Africa, with the Community Trust supplying top level coaching to thousands of overseas youngsters each year, whilst sharing knowledge with coaches in other countries.

The Community Trust offers two main elements within the international department, with international soccer camps seeing our coaches travel overseas and put on fun, safe, educational, technical and tactical football sessions.

We also offer International Stoke City Football Club Experience Tours. On these trips to Stoke-on-Trent, groups take part in training sessions at the Club’s Academy facilities, play competitive games against local opponents, enjoy behind the scenes tours at the bet365 Stadium and take in the atmosphere at a Stoke City first team fixture.

NATIONAL CITIZEN SERVICE PROGRAMME Here at Stoke City Football Club we deliver a four-week National Citizen Service (NCS) programme for 15-17 year-olds, split across three different waves during the summer period; the programme has three distinct phases.

• Phase 1 (Adventure): During this phase young people spend five days at an outdoor activity centre. In their groups of 15 they will try activities such as problem solving, raft building and hiking.

• Phase 2 (Discovery): Young people then head to a university campus to stay in student accommodation for five days. During this week they participate in a number of activities that are designed to develop key life skills. They also explore issues such as politics and democracy.

• Phase 3 (Action): Using the skills that they have

learnt in Phases 1 and 2, young people plan and run their own social action project. All projects are youth-led, and team leaders will be on hand to give assistance. We routinely work will a range of charities and organisations across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire and deliver projects that positively impact on the lives of local people.

The icing on the cake is our celebration event. On completion of the programme, we celebrate the achievements of the young people with a graduation ceremony; everyone involved is invited. Young people are able to bring guest and we get the opportunity to share and celebrate the success of young people in a party atmosphere.

There is an opportunity after graduation for young people to join our Graduate Programme. Here they will gain new skills and have further opportunities to be involved in other community action projects.

STOKE CITY BIRTHDAY PARTIES Our special birthday parties provide young supporters with a memorable experience on their special day.

Parties are available to be booked on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, with lots of items and activities included to make any young Potters’ birthday unforgettable.

Community coaches will be on hand to oversee football games in the Stoke City Academy Dome, with the birthday boy or girl receiving a signed birthday card and signed football. Each child attending the party will also receive a goodie bag, including a Stoke City gift.

There is the opportunity to upgrade the party to a gold package, which will see Club mascot Pottermus be part of the birthday celebrations!

Or how would you like to surprise your Stoke City supporting child with a special party at the bet365 Stadium and tickets to watch the Potters in action?

Well, the Club’s Community Trust have two packages available for you to do just that. Platinum and Diamond party packages are available on matchdays with these ideal for children aged seven and older and available from as little at £299.00.
