New Dog & Puppy Playgroup The Didsbury & South Manchester Dog & Puppy Playgroup is a free and informal get together of puppies, dogs and their owners in South Manchester. The group provides an opportunity to let your dog or puppy socialise, play and exercise, and for you to meet other dog owners, have some tea
and cake and a chat! We are hoping to plan more play sessions, group walks, and hopefully find a bigger venue for indoor play during the Winter. If your dog loves to play or would benefit from meeting other dogs, join us for a session! See http:// didsburydogs.wordpress.com or email Jenny on jennyg2207@ gmail.com
Please let us know if you are aware of any community spaces for hire in South Manchester that would allow dogs - obviously we would leave the space spotless! We would also love to hear about any enclosed parks or spaces for off lead play safe from roads.

In addition to this HealthySpirit offers a good choice of meditation CDs, relaxing music, crystals, books, flower essences, incense and much more. “It is the philosophy of HealthySpirit that we are more than just a physical body and for healing to occur we need to also nurture the spiritual, emotional and mental bodies” says Sarah.
HealthySpirit also offer over twenty five different holistic therapies ranging from Body Massage to Reiki to Acupuncture and Kinesiology from a team of qualified therapists who are all dedicated to helping people heal themselves. HealthySpirit is such a hub of activity with all sorts of classes, courses and workshops taking place offering regular meditation classes throughout the week, Chi Kung, and Kundalini Yoga to name but a few with some of the classes being made available to the community free of charge with the teacher leading the class accepting donations from participants. Didsbury Calendar 2013 The theme of the 2013 Didsbury Calendar is ‘Old Didsbury’ and is on sale throughout Didsbury. All the photographs appearing in the calendar this year have been taken by members of the South Manchester Camera Club and were chosen by a panel of Didsbury residents. Money raised from the sale of the calendar goes towards good causes in Didsbury. Last year proceeds from calendar sales were used to give a donation to Friends of Fletcher Moss Park and Gardens for plants, the Guitar Trail, which is held annually in Fletcher Moss Park and
a donation was also made to the fund to help pay for bunting and flags to decorate the village for the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The calendar is on sale at:

November in your Garden “No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds – November!” wrote the poet Thomas Hood in the mid eighteenth century when winters were winters and summers were… probably wet. Actually, there are plenty of flowering shrubs and perennials in November – Camellia, Viburnum tinus and some varieties of Mahonia all start to flower in November as does the cherry, Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’. Schizostylis, Aster and Liriope will probably still be showing on the perennial
scene and colchicum and cyclamen have been at it since September. But there is something about the true autumn leaf fall and inviting bare branches of November that makes us want to fish out our secateurs and get hacking. This is not necessarily a good idea so hold fire for just a minute. Some experts recommend pruning certain plants in November such as Corylus (Hazel), Philadelphus (Mock Orange). There is also advice in some quarters about pruning or renovating deciduous hedges with evergreens being better left until spring. Most agree that tall roses can be pruned now to prevent root rock. However there are also some things that should not be pruned now including anything potentially tender or @ Canstock Photo Inc/Morphart

early flowering – Buddleja, Forsythia, Clematis montana or Wisteria for example where the growth has matured during the summer and would be removed by the overzealous wielding of secateurs. Waiting until mid-winter for pruning deciduous trees and shrubs is a good idea because the plants are truly dormant. Pruning in November may stimulate new growth just as the plant is trying to close down and weaken them. There are some trees and shrubs that prefer a summer trim including maples, birches, dogwoods, walnuts and elms. Pruning Prunus prudently is also recommended (in fact stone fruit in general) as they could become more susceptible to ‘silver leaf’ and avoiding pruning anything in wet conditions lessens the chance of spreading disease. So whilst it is tempting to get stuck into a couple of days of hacking back, if in doubt, wait until the winters sleep has set in properly or even admire your vigorous, generous shrubs and trees in all their naked glory and spruce them up in spring.
