Former lax standout Chirco sets marathon goal

Jaclyn Chirco, who had a standout career as a lacrosse goalie at Hopkinton High School and Assumption College, will run the Boston Marathon as a fundraiser for Hopkinton Girls Youth Lacrosse.

As an adult, Chirco is focused on a different goal — completing the Oct. 11 Boston Marathon. Chirco will run as a fundraiser for Hopkinton Girls Youth Lacrosse. “Growing up, I watched the Marathon start every year,” she recalled. “My family used to live in the first quarter-mile of the race, so we’d walk to the end of the street and set up camp. We’d bring chairs and coolers and hang out all day long watching the runners go by. “One year, when I was about 5 or so, we were standing out there and I had my hand out, just looking to get a highfive, and this one guy handed me a $10 bill. opkinton Health Director Shaun McAuliffe, in his update to the Select Board last Tuesday night, praised his COVID-19 response team and said the staffers do not deserve to have residents treat them rudely while they are doing their jobs. “Right now they are recognized widely throughout the commonwealth as being one the top COVID response teams out there,” a weary-sounding McAuliffe said, adding that two visiting nurse associations (VNA) recently called to ask for assistance. “We know what we’re doing. We’ve got different agencies that are coning to us for advice on how to handle cases. So, my hats off to those guys. They’re really a well-oiled machine. “With that said, we’re almost two years into COVID. I know people are frustrated. I know that they’re inconvenienced. I know that they’re tired. But I’m just asking people — and there’s a small minority — but I’m just asking them to be a little civil when they are dealing with that team, because they have a job to do, they COVID | 20
