reation of a single use historic district at 76 Main St. in downtown Hopkinton was approved by Town Meeting in early May with the required two-thirds vote, but what are the next steps for the Claflin house to complete the establishment of the single use historic district? The Final Study Report voted at Town Meeting provides some history and an outline of some of those steps. The report reads: “The current property owner sought a demolition permit for the Claflin House; the Hopkinton Historical Commission then imposed a six-month demolition delay, which will expire July 4, 2019. The Hopkinton Historic District Commission, which oversees the existing Hopkinton Center Historic District half a mile east of the subject property, is seeking to establish the Aaron and Lucy Claflin House Historic District before the demolition delay expires.” Claflin house | 8

onstruction begins later this summer to replace the worn playground equipment at EMC Park after several breakdowns over the past few years. With a $260,000 budget provided by Hopkinton’s Community Preservation Committee (CPC), program coordinator Jennifer Hart of Parks and Recreation said she expects construction to start sometime in July or early August. Kompan, an equipment provider headquartered in Austin, Texas, provided the specs for Parks and Recreation personnel: ADA-compliant equipment that Hart referred to as “very focused on inclusive play.” Playground | 12
